They say the real number is 9 times higher than the registered number. 468,000 were infected with omicron yesterday (Friday 7 Jan) alone (although "only" 53,419 cases were registered). Yes, but nobody requires me to take a Covid test to enter a bar here in Brazil. And I don't have to worry about 14 days in a Covid prison if I happen to get a false positive Covid test.

My feeling is that the Omicron wave has already peaked, but it will take the Thai authorities a while to make it easier to enter Thailand.

I came back from there a week ago when Omicron was starting to be a problem, even before that Soi 6 was very poor. Most bars were closed and what few were open did not have a great number of girls for all the men who were around. I'd say there might be 16 bars on soi 6 that are open, of those maybe 5 have a good amount of girls and out of those girls maybe a dozen on the street are high enough quality at any time to take for a romp. Unfortunately out of that dozen 7 will all magically be on their period together for weeks on end. Sure there are another couple of dozen who are good enough for a try, 6 of those too will be on their periods as well. My take on the scene in Pattaya from what I have seen on the ground is this. There are some good lookers out there. Some on soi 6, some scattered about in LK metro, some on the side streets like soi Honey. Plenty for everyone and not a lot of business going around for them. Yeah you can still see some guys hanging around but you'd hope they were smart enough to test themselves at home first before going out to the public testing areas.

Now would I rather be home than stuck in a foreign country having sex with all sorts of hot young women for what amounts to a few beers back home? Not a chance. I'm just glad I got here right before things started to go south. My hope is they do shut down the country. Right about when my visa is coming due. The USA has had Omicron at least 10 days before Thailand, so I look for an Omicron peak in Thailand about January 20. Since they don't test much, that peak will be less than 20,000 cases. The question is how many hospital beds will be filled?
