I arrived at Las Americas airport in Santo Domingo late afternoon yesterday, and requested a ride from the airport to Gazcue with Uber. The first two Uber drivers that accepted my offer wanted to get me in a fare negotiation game which I denied. They complained that the Uber's fare are too low. They both individually asked me to cancel the trip since I wasn't willing to negotiate a fare with them and I declined, since I wasn't the one who rejected the fare that Uber offered. Of course, finally they had to cancel, which led to Uber redirecting my request to other available Uber drivers. The third Uber driver picked me up without an issue. We can soon forget that with the advent of Uber, not only have fares for city commercial rides, particularly from and to the airports, become considerably low but also there is a sense of security that never existed before, when you get an Uber ride.
I concur. Uber in the Boca chica area can be a game. They do exactly as you say, and it gets worse after 4 pm. Sometimes me and the guys will catch Uber from Zona Colonial to Boca chica to get fish and drink. If we leave the beach about 4 pm we might get a fair Uber driver but after that and the price goes up. Indriver is far better IMO. The app is on the play store and easy to understand. You leave a bid and they accept or not. No credit card needed, you pay cash. If you aren't sure about the fare, go to the Uber app and find out the price. Then shoot your bid a little lower and increase it.
I'm sure Uber sees all the cancelled trips in the BC area but Uber hasn't done anything to stop it and have them honor the first price.

What happens in DR if you test positive for COVID?
Has anyone had experience with or heard about what happens if you test positive for COVID in the DR when traveling back to the US? I believe that now the US is requiring a negative test within 24 hours of departure. I can't seem to find info on quarantine requirements in the DR. It seems the CDC says 5 days at least before you can travel. And then I assume you would have to get a negative test.
At www.xe.com the exchange is 45.34 DOP for 1 CAD. I always exchange with Frank El Azuano in El Conde, with him you'll get the exchange rate of that day.
You are talking about exchanging in Santo Domingo; he is asking about Puerto Plata.
HI All, Will be down in the DR later in Jan and was curious what the exchange for Canadian dollar was. I called a local Currency exchange and was quoted 41.11 peso for one Canadian and just wanted to know if that was close to what is listed in the DR at the WU of Jennys in Costambar.

That's correct. Thanks to John for the information. But it would be from Punta Cana and 6 hours just s...
My bad, I should read the post I'm responding to before I post. Before all those resorts were plunked down in Punta Cana, there was nothing but cane. I hate all those faux luxury hotels and I'm naturally disposed to hate that entire "city".
Santo Domingo has a layered history and a layered architecture going back to the early 16th century. The Zona Colonial, the walled parts of the City are amazing.
If you're interested in nature, just drive NW along the coast on an excellent road. No more than an hour drive you get to Miches at the mouth of Baha de Saman, which is an awesome geographical feature.
Why spend the time driving hours to Sousa or other parts when you only have 48 hours, when you can hit up Drink Point or Corner Bar at night in Punta Cana? Plenty of women of all ages to chose from and cabins right next door. The prices are $70-80 range plus $20-25 for the cabin. Seems like a waste to me to drive 6 hours to Sousa when you have all you need right where you are, plus beautiful beaches and activities.
Thanks. This is very useful. See my response to John -I will 100% try out Corner Bar and Drink Point. Is that price range of $70-80 for 30 minutes or one hour? I like to normally take a girl for 2 hours if she is good looking, good slim or athletic body and provides good service. Is $200 a reasonable price for 2 hours to tempt good service. Or too much? I'm assuming the cabin next door is a quick hotel / motel / bed for an hour. Again. If I want it for 2 hours, or even all night. Likely price?
I see from their websites Corner Bar and Drink Point show sports / TVs. Do they have 8 ball pool / darts / backgammon? If not, where are the best places to find those games in Bavaro.
That's correct. Thanks to John for the information. But it would be from Punta Cana and 6 hours just seems crazy however good the scenery! Sounds to me like there will be enough going on at Drink Point and Corner Bar in Bavaro. I just fancy going somewhere else for a few days and couldn't decide between Boca Chica, Santo Domingo or Sosua. I've ruled out BC having read it's thread which is very negative.
Sosua sounds far more active than SD but is a lot further to drive.
Really appreciate all the help. Clearly a very friendly forum so thanks. I suppose I have a final question. In terms of non-mongering activities which is best. Sosua or Santo Domingo? Traffic in SD sounds horrendous!

Oh for sure I do intend to visit both. My apologies. I should have made clear: I have 2 days to go explore somewhere else in DR other than Punta Cana.
SDQ to Sosua is for sure less than a four hours even in the crappiest rental car. It's all autopista. (and it's a beautiful drive -- just worth doing by itself)
Many thanks to Mr Enternational and OldKool for responses. Sadly, despite what OldKool says about Sosua, the 6 hour drive each way is a killer I think. Would waste most of the days! I therefore think Sto Domingo is more feasible. I'll take a look at its thread to see best options but if anyone has a "must do" when in Santo Domingo or Boca Chica please let me know.

I'm soon to land in DR (Punta Cana) for the first time. Will have two or three nights free entirely. Based in Punta Cana but wondering whether to jump in a hire car and hit other parts of DR. Sosua, Boca Chica, Blackbeards, or Santo Domingo. From having read the threads. I am a regular reporter in the Costa del Sol (general and clubs only) forums (Spain) and German FKK forums (many). Happy to post after adventures but could do with some general guidance. If you guys who know DR really well had only two nights please let me know where you would spend them for the best looking chicas. For sure it would be good to see some sights. But the mongering comes first! Are there "clubs" like in Spain / Germany to select from a line up? If yes, where are the best locations / places. Would be most grateful for any assistance on do's and don'ts Thanks.
