There is no need to agree on the monger strategy of other members, the posts can still be interesting. Otherwise, scroll by or press "Add to Ignore List". It's not a pissing contest.

I find it interesting that you only felt compelled to say this once people started to get in his case. You didn't say one mumbling word regarding his bullying and put downs of others here. And believe me, there are some here who feel that he has done exactly that. For a very long time now. And not once did you ever say anything, and in fact even laughed with him and encouraged it at times. And yet, now we're supposed to look upon you as one speaking with fairness and reason? Maybe if and when you feel compelled to extend this wisdom towards addressing his own bad behavior as well.

There was a viral sketch on SNL about "Man Park" and an article in the economist.com that describes Male Loneliness in America. It relates to a well known phenomenon, call it Brazil Withdrawal Syndrome. A ISGer comes to Brazil for 3 weeks, announces his pronouns as something like Sir, but the girls he pulls are only from termas, and those are unremarkable. Then he comes to Rio, and is in the absolute opposite of Puritan Pussy Prison in America, where the female faculty at an academic work environment body shame men in acts of some kind of redress. For 3 weeks he gets sex on command. As to Barra it's been popularized by Vagabundo, who actually lives in Rio. New tourists shouldn't stay in Barra, IMHO, and that's what the consensus here is. But for those who stay in Rio long-term, it actually makes sense (cheaper and safer). After you've seen most things Rio has to offer, why not stay in Barra, really?

How many times have you or any guy who parachutes in for 3 weeks gone Christmas shopping in madureira, and then celebrated Christmas with the whole family, including like 6 brothers out on the far reaches of zona oest? A perfect example would be the bubbaboy guide. It is old and now should be taken as an entertaining intro to rio but that is all. So much has changed since his time that it isn't really relevant to today.

Personally, I have been visiting and mongering in Brazil since 2001 and so much has changed. I didn't even visit Rio till 2012 since I was told not to visit by my agents in the south. Only in the past few years has mongering really changed for me with the proliferation of escort sites, cheap and safe rides to get to places around rio and SP and Google translate.

My suggestion is to man up by coming to rio and staying if you like it so much. If you are in IT, get an IT job. The economist notes that there are 40,000 new SW engineers being trained in South America every year, but the region needs 100 k. If you are in education, go onto your consulate and connect with cultural affairs and get a teaching job in Rio. As the Nike ad says, just do it.
