Rio de Janeiro - Hotels & Apartments

From the outside it looks like it is going through some renovations on the ground level, however they are still booking their top floor ocean view rooms for customers willing to pay around 100-125 usd per night. I walked by the hotel last week and saw people coming and going from the lobby. I also checked on booking. Cm to verify that rooms are currently available and they are. Not exactly sure if they are renovating other floors where the normal double sized bed set ups rooms are. I stayed there in July and the construction was driving me crazy. I asked to move rooms and the staff was very kind to oblige. During my stay both of their elevators decided to take a crap. Even their service elevator was having issues. The wait to get to the upper floors was ridiculous. I definitely wouldn't book there until whatever renovations they are doing are completely finished. Ymmv.

Porto bay hotel has been closed for renovation. Does anybody know if it still is girlfriendly?

Thanks for the insight. Honestly it is the hotel staff that I am worried about who can steal the stuff from safe box since they can override my passcode while I am absent.

Honestly, it's not impossible, but you've got to stop worrying about certain things. Even if it happens, they won't rob you blind, they would lift a bill or two from your pile of cash, hoping you won't notice. No one wants to involve cops and worse, their supervisors.

If you're organized and paranoid enough, count your money before leaving and when you come back. But seriously, I don't think it's worth it.

Has never happened to me in all of my years of traveling around the world, and not likely to happen to you either. If you're all worried about something like that and can't relax, then my sincere best advice to you is to just stay home.

The same shit had happen to me once. So speaking from experience. Pricing of this hotel is nice, so trying to see if I am missing some obvious flags and hence asking insights. While I read the reviews over the internet and most of the folks complaint about quality of room (outdated) and hotel staff. Which I am little ok to compromise (given the price and location) however, what I am not ok to compromise (no matter the price) is the safety of my belongings.

You can't easily access the room from the window side. Hotel is guest friendly, given you follow all the recommended procedures for any GF property.

Can someone verify that jw Marriott is girl friendly with no extra charge for 2022. I know things can change quick at these hotels. The rates are 90 a day which is great for a 5 star place.

I stayrf a few nights recently.

Pros:

Location and no issues with guests.

Cons:

Rooms are tiny and have no balconies.

Place seemed understaffed so I often had to wait a reception etc.

I've never stayed, but I visited a friend on a few occasions, so I saw his room and the lobby.

You'll find this JW inferior to normal international JW Marriott standards. The staff try hard, but this hotel suffers from general lack of space. The rooms are tiny and it felt a bit dated (back in 2019).

It's a nice hotel, though, and the location can't be beat.

I stayed at the JW Marriott 3 weeks ago, had no issues bringing a girl for a pernoite. We could've just walked past to the elevator, but she wanted to do the right thing and showed her ID at the front desk, no issues either way. Try to get an ocean front room, and breakfast buffet was pretty good too.

Planning my 4th trip to Rio. I've always stayed in an apartment.

I'the like to try staying in a hotel. I searched for a list of "girl friendly" hotels but couldn't find anything.

Can someone please recommend 2 or 3 Girl Friendly hotels within a block or 2 of Copacabana Beach?

For short visits, I stay at the Hotel Atlantic Praia. As long as I book for 2 people, never have a problem bringing a lady back.

Why hotel and not AirBnB? I'm planning to stay in Rio for like six weeks starting beginning January and I find the longtime renting of airbnbs much cheaper than a comparable hotel.

For a long stay yes, I would go with an apartment. But, I tend to have relatively short stays in multiple cities.
