But I did wonder why Villainy tried to come at me with this stupid notion that cabs in Colombia do not rip people off and now I get that he was trying to put me in the same place as you, a total fraud, about having been to Colombia..

As to the cab thing. It's actually pretty simple. You posted in the Medellin thread that you couldn't count the number of times a cab driver tried to rip you off. I had to correct the record. In the 2 1/2 years I've lived in Medellin (nor in the 5 times I visited over the years), I have had NO experiences of a cab driver trying to rip me off. Perhaps I speak Spanish well enough that cabbies assume I've been here enough times to know what the fare should be. Maybe I just don't look like a foolish foreigner that doesn't know any better.

Of course, as is your want, you immediately answered back that this happened to you too many times to count in Cartagena. Of course, you could have mentioned that it happened in Cartagena not in Medellin. Or you could have posted your "expert opinion" in the Cartagena thread. Yes, as along as you sit in the front, it shouldn't be an issue. When I arrive in Bogota, I sat in the back seat at first and after one of the drivers asked me to sit in the front, I continued to do so the rest of the trip.

Now the funny thing is my first night, I was sitting in the back and we got pulled over by police who had another driver stopped already. They checked his ID and let him go without any issues even though it was clear I was a passenger.

If they are caught then the car gets impounded and they have to pay a big fine. By the way, you should try the Indriver app. It is cheaper than Uber.

I took a private driver to the airport tonight. Its a small business that we use sometimes and they will also keep your bags safe if you want to get dinner. One guy even came into one of the nicer clubs the first time to watch us. Talk about service! I usually walk or uber, but for late night service I like the guaranteed ride.

But anyways, I sat up front and he had me pay before we got to the airport. He also took his phone off the dashboard mount a couple km before. We parked and he brought me to the door. Not sure if that last part was necessary for his cover or not, but its appreciated.

I like to work out. Nothing serious, but just to keep fit. One of the problems of travelling is the availability of good gyms.

I found one in Chapinero which is ideal for us short-timers. It's called Fitness 24/7 and it's on Calle 66,13-45. It's open 24 hours. It's quite small, but even at 5 pm weekdays, I didn't have a problem getting onto the machines. It's possible to be a member for 1 month at a cost of 100 K, and the best part is that you can pay cash, so no need to worry about being charged on your credit card for more months than necessary. They have a shower and lockers.

The nearest transmilenio is "Flores" and bus number 8 goes there from either direction, north or south.

I left Bogota yesterday and used an uber from Santa Fe to the airport. When we got close to the airport, the driver (Venezuelan chap) explained that he may have to take a different route than expected because there are often police waiting on the way, to stop uber drivers and shake them down for big payments.

He seemed genuinely concerned, and at one point even pointed out a few policemen standing around a stopped car, talking to the driver.

I'm not sure what the consequences would be for the passenger (very little I would imagine), but if the police were to stop an uber and the passenger, then I can see them purposely taking their time talking to the driver with the possibility that the passenger would be in danger of missing their flight.

No disrespect or offense intended, as I know without a doubt that these things happen. But on Election Day? Police were swarming EVERYWHERE and I mean on every square block, especially close to the voting booths. This election has serious implications and I read a lot about how security would be greater than usual. And I saw it. I don't know where specifically your novia's brother was walking and one can, of course, be robbed anywhere.

That being said, I have to ask. Did your novia ask you for money after this event? Again, no disrespect intended. With 40% of the population living below the poverty line people are very desperate and crime has certainly increased. Just the other day a girl on SA told me she was robbed and straight up asked me to buy her an iPhone 12. I nearly pissed myself laughing before blocking her.

In any case, the takeaway for any monger is to always be on your guard because if your novia's brother was indeed robbed, it is just further evidence that it can happen to anyone.

What the hell is going on with the all the in-fighting in this thread? Who cares how people spend their time and efforts as long as we're having fun. Some people want short flings, others want something more. This would be my first time taking a solo trip of this kind, so I have a couple prospects for both categories. Maybe some will work out, some won't, but that's part of the game and I'll learn for next time.
