I would suggest you look at an events calendar for your time in Montreal. In the summer, there are many festivals. In the autumn-winter-spring period, there is hockey.

Say you haven't gotten to travel much the last few years, but Europe is too expensive in terms of flight prices or award miles needed to travel (which is true), and the flight schedules are too limited to Asia / Australia, and South America is too dangerous for your tastes (assuming you are coming from the USA).
