Walking to the Zona is fairly safe during the day time. & early evening. I usually walk to the during day & early evening unless the weather is really hot. It is always a smart idea to look to see who is walking behind you in Tijuana. At night I take the Uber or taxi van back to the border.

Well so do I. I even walk to HK from the border. But it's still not a great neighborhood still LOL. It's still a sketchy area and you still got to be self aware of your surroundings. Many other cities you can walk around everywhere without having to worry about anything.

What is your goal? Is it strictly sex? I believe nyc has decriminalized sex industry. People with money would never leave Manhattan because there's probably 4000 working girls that will show up at your Manhattan hotel who will look as good as the top 10% of Hong Kong girls. There's probably another 20 to 30 k girls in this industry in nyc and its suburbs. Then you have flushing queens the safest part of NYC. Its like Zona Norte. Let me put it another way. A blowjob in the Hong Kong club is $80+. A blowjob on the 'mean streets' of Zona Norte is $20. I always go to the district in the daytime. I've even found a lot of chicas out at 9-10 am. But when it gets dark, I'm out of there.

For a northeasterner Tijuana is worth trying at least once.

If you're flying in from the East Coast, I doubt Tijuana is worth the trip. Central and South America are generally a lot easier to reach. Tijuana is easy to visit if you live in SoCal or vicinity, so it's easy to overlook the problems.

Tijuana's red-light district is very small (just a couple of square blocks), surrounded by a very dangerous neighborhood. The bars are all clip joints to one degree or another, and they can smell a newbie a mile away. That's not to say you can't have fun, but there is a learning curve.

Some people say that HK is the best bar in the world. Well, the world is a big place, and there are better bars. It may be the best bar of its kind in Mexico, depending on your taste.

Prices have been rising very rapidly. Frankly, I don't think $100 for 30 minutes, plus $10/ drink lady drinks, plus $5 beers, plus $30/30 minute rooms is any bargain, and if one has to factor in airfare and lodging I think one can find better values elsewhere.

None of this should be taken as a warning to stay away. Much fun can be had. But as a destination, for somebody coming from thousands of miles away, I think there are better locations.

I'd say it's worth a visit if you live fairly close, or you're on a road trip to somewhere in Baja. Tijuana is an interesting, vibrant city, but nothing like DF. Tijuana itself is maybe good for a couple of days max with an interesting food scene and good beaches, but DF is a major, major, surprising, fantastic, world class city. There are all kinds of nonstops from NYC etc to MEX.

Crossed over without incident having left my luggage in a hotel in SD and hopped on a blue line. Since it's a longer walk and I usually put in a lot of miles anyway, I got the HK shuttle in, had to wait a couple of minutes, but no big deal. They don't even care if you go straight into the club, and since I still had my overnight bag, I didn't. Failed to get a room at Adelitas (full) so settled on Ibiza again. When I was in Tijuana in January, it only took an hour to get thru, I'm hoping its the same.

Without overcomplicating it, as long as you get to pedeast before 10 am on Sunday, your wait should be minimal, as in well under an hour. I was in Tijuana this past weekend and around 9:45 am the line was very short at pedeast. I'll be back this Friday but shorter trip leaving on Saturday so curious to see what the line looks like around the same time on a Saturday as opposed to a Sunday. My guess is it'll be around the same.

A lot will depend on the day and time you are leaving. Lets say you leave early Sunday morning say around 7 am It won't be nearly as bad as waiting until 10 or 11 am.
