I will be returning to Bogota again in 2 weeks and it seems like the only thing going up faster than airfare is gas. I just got back from Bogota and planning another trip in 2 weeks and I swear the already over priced airfare has almost doubled from the prices last month. I never fly Spirit because they suck but their price for Atlanta to Bogota is almost as much as Delta. I can afford to pay it but I'm not happy. I hate being gouged. Plus the dollar continues to go down, from 4000 a week or so ago to in the 3700 range. So I'm wondering if these events are holding any of you guys back from making a trip.

I did a same day visa run, but using different passports. I did research if you could do it on the same passport. Some folks said they did it NP. Others said you needed to eait X days, but could never provide any evidence when asked, so I think they were just repeating what others had said.

So to summarise, several confirmed they had done it, and I never found any evidence to refute it. Please let us know if you find out.

I have a little over 10 years on you and been doing this traveling thing for over 10 years and I'm certain there are members on this forum that have 10,20 maybe even 30 years more than me and still going strong in the travelling game. Listen to them and take it all in to see where things are going before you get to that point.

As at LatinaLover said, the most important thing is that you must speak the same language. The chica will want to take you home and show you off to her family as you are the big catch to make her life easier. If you cannot communicate with her mom, aunts or grandmother it will be difficult as those are the ones you will have to impress and Latin culture is all about family, we are talking multiple generations under 1 roof.

Get away from paid services and talk to local girls who have normal jobs. They might still do sex work on the side once in a while when they need the new iPhone with 3 cameras, or need a new fridge, or washing machine, or big hospital bill for mom, but they do not depend on it to survive (don't ask them, and you may have to overlook it if you encounter it). If they ask you for money on the first date you know where its going.

How successful are you at finding STR in the US? If you aren't finding it easy at home, it will be extremely difficult in Colombia.

You'll have more difficulty regardless. Unless you put yourself in the middle of a middle class or better neighborhood and go native, most of the girls you meet will be from low income families. The good news is that those are the ones most likely to be interested in a STR with a gringo. The bad news is they expect payment.

The middle and upper class girls won't expect payment, but they are less likely to go for a 1 night stand, or a short affair.

Having been to most Countries in South and Central American countries for more years than I care to remember, it's very possible to be in a regular relationship BUT the odds are not in your favor. I had 2 serious relationships in Brazil out of maybe 100 different women I have met. An 8 year relationship with a Tica, again out of many many women. 2 very serious ones in Colombia. Currently engaged to a STEM major in the Nat'l University who has never been prepago, in fact I'm not sure she even knows what that is. Jaja. The other is now a Chef in Paris.

2 absolutes are required.

You both need to speak the same language fluently, either both speak English or Spanish, better Espanole so you can interact with her family, a very important part of a serious deal.

The other is you both need to live in the same country, or at the very least she needs a 10 year visa so you can alternate visiting each other every month or so. VERY Important. If you plan to return to Colombia ensure that your phone is registered. You may receive some texts on this a week or so after you start using in Colombia To do this you need a Colombian Cedula (or someone elses) as a passport won't work. I bought a cheap unblocked Samsung S9 in the states, used it in Colombia for 2 weeks and it was blocked while I was back in the states as I was unable to register it. When I returned to Colombia took me a day and a lot of time to get the issue resolved, including going the man Claro store to have my device unblocked and then to a computer store to have my phone hacked and bands opened up again. I do not recommend so make sure it's registered!

If you get your SIM at a full service Claro store they will properly register it, etc. As he said, you need your passport. But if you were to buy a SIM on the street if it functions that means it is already registered to someone else, or will need to be registered in the next couple of weeks. Perhaps with that scenario the website will not accept a passport ID, I don't know. But yes, be sure it is registered. It is the PHONE that needs to be registered with a valid Colombian number, or the next time you come you won't be able to use that phone for anything, with any company or any number.

From the US prospective.

1) Get Google Fi.

2) If you have T-Moble plan such as Magenta, you get internet services in many countries including Colombia. Problem is that it is limited and it's 3 G.

3) Pay high fees and pay for roaming from Verizon and other providers.

4) Get local SIM when you exit the international baggage area in Bogota airport. It is the first store you see. But the price is very expensive. You know the price is expensive because it is priced in US dollars. Lowest level was about US $20 for a few gigs; price was about double for about a quarter of what you can get with Claro.

5) Best option (for value): get pre-paid plan with Claro (or with other providers). Problem is that it's somewhat inconvenient since you can't get it at the airport.

This is what I always do. I go to the Andino Mall (or go to any OFFICIAL Claro store). They have a big, official Claro store on the second level. They have great customer service that will help you. I get the pre-paid package of 40 mil. You get 12 gigs and unlimited phone and text for 30 days. They have other packages which are cheaper. SIM is 3 mil. You need a passport. A copy of my passport has always been accepted.
