I was walking from the auto body shop to La Zona Sunday afternoon.

5 Policia Municipal pick up trucks and patrol cars blocked the street flashing beacons. They arrested 2 middle-aged gringos, hand cuffed, sitting on the truck rear gate being interrogated, looking very scared. Policias were all wearing tactical vests, armed with M-4 carbines and hand guns. Locals told me those 2 guys were involved in the drug trade.

The neighborhood North of Chicago Club is alleged to be a hub for drug trafficking and cartels' activities. The bros should not wander too far away from the bar block. Risks are high that bad shit might happen.

I think it was in last couple days us state department put a warning up, for Americans to stay away Tijuana due to violence from expected cartel policia shootouts.

If you are in line return to the US and are traveling solo and need to use the restroom, do you have a random stranger hold your place in line for you while you use the restroom?

What about hidden money? I believe a lot of travelers will hide money on various places throughout their person. Do they just leave that money in their various hiding places during a police search?

The cop has patted me down about 8 times in 7 years of going to Tijuana. I don't show them my hidden money and they haven't found it. I also don't cave to their nonsense. From viagra being a crime to not having my identification on me. I don't apologize and make myself look in the wrong. I told them "how can I carry my passport around when people be robbing me for it on these streets".

Yes very good & complete article. If you are searched by the cops then you should immediately hold your money & cell phone in your hands. I have noticed recently that the police have not been searching pedestrians as much. The police seem to be stopping drivers more often.

What about hidden money? I believe a lot of travelers will hide money on various places throughout their person. Do they just leave that money in their various hiding places during a police search?

Your numbers are way off. I promise you there is no way in hell they found 20 billion in cash. No chance even one billion was found in one room.

The big downside is that you will not necessarily see the judge immediately. I believe they can hold you in jail overnight.

They take your drivers license and then you follow them to the police station. I met their supervisor that spoke English and I paid the fine. It was 2000 peso for tinted windows. Magically my supposed speeding violation wasn't mentioned. It probably would be better off for me to have paid 500-1000 peso to the officer that pulled me over than to go to the station, but the girl I was riding with told me to go to the station.

What certain look gets you messed with? What specifically do you mean by profiling?

Baseball hats on backwards. Baggy hip hop clothing. Large backpacks etc.

I've been stopped on foot by the cops so many times in Tijuana over the years I've lost count. Never tried to hide anything from them and have never had anything stolen. Once they realize I don't speak Spanish they usually send me on my way. Even if you do speak Spanish don't with them. Play the stupid tourist role. I've also noticed over the years that if you have a certain look to you your more likely to be fucked with. Unlike in the US where if you look at somebody the wrong way your deemed racist, in Tijuana they don't care. Profiling does go on in Tijuana so beware! Another good rule of thumb is not to be a dick when stopped or pulled over but don't be timid or show fear either. Moe.
