When asking for a room at the Taoramina; go for the 4th floor "in the rear". The front of the hotel faces a fairly busy side street with early morning traffic. Rooms in the "420"s (no pun intended", face a wooded area. I find the rooms at the Taormina to be cleaner than the HDR; as is the casino.

    Better girls at Taormina

I thought the room was "ok" at Taormina. Clean although nothing special. Noise a few times but it died down pretty quickly each time. Restaurant attached to hotel was very good.

At least in my 3 night day, the talent was vastly superior at Taormina than anything else in the area by far. The other places were dead even in the evenings.

HDR is convenient, but it's not the nicest hotel. In all the years I've visited the HDR, I've not been able to book the top-floor suite with the balcony & hot tub, but I managed it this time (probably need to add a few gallons of Clorox before getting into that hot tub LOL).

Also, I noticed the Holiday Inn (which has some nice rooms) is also very close to the HDR. Anyone have any experience there?
I've stayed in the 6th floor, corner suite about 4 - 5 times. There are two; one on each side, but one is the "owner's suite" I was fortunate to stay in there once as well. It is very nice, but not real great during the rainy season.

The Castillo has rooftop suites as well; though no hot tub. Also, the quality of the girls at the Castillo is, let's just saw, lacking in quality. Though, they are inclusive with food and drinks.

Every room at the Sportsmens are unique. Some very basic and some quite luxurious. Their website describes each room and shows the price and availability.

Sleep in reminds me of a Hampton or Courtyard from a room perspective. The reason I avoid it as most of the guests, like the Holiday Inn are not really there for P4 P. I guess I am a bit old fashioned and don't like the walk of shame.

On the other hand, if I was in San Jose primarily for business and was thinking of a liasion or two then I would definitely consider the Sleep Inn.

I feel sleep inn. Still gives you that regular normal hotel feel. With a clean room and hot water. It is better than Taormina or del Ray. Now, I have never stayed a sportsmen. But, I don't think the rooms would be on par. The only problem with Sleep Inn. Is the guest fee is either $25 or $28 dollars. But, happy hunting, LOL.

If you want to stay in that area why go to the Sportsmens or the Castillo. Both are entirely guest friendly with no fees regardless of the number of guests. Both have bars where the ladies will ply their trade. Sometimes they are crowded, sometimes not. Both are a short walk or cab ride to the Del Rey or the Taormina.

The Del Rey is a nice bar to visit but their rooms kind of suck and they do have a fee for each woman you take up the elevator. Last I heard it was $20. If you are a young man that can add up.

    Bar at the Gran Hotel

The bar is up on 5th floor behind the elevators and in the restaurant area. It's and okay bar but you will find ZERO action there. NONE. I've stayed at the Gran many times for business and while it's nice, it isn't the place for hobbying.

Upon check-in, they will inform you that there is a $140 USD fee for any "guests" so, yeah, I guess it's semi-acceptable (it IS legal after all) but I've not tried, nor would I.

It's been over two years since I visited CR, so I need my "fix". The HDR has always served as my base of operation because of the convenience, and for better or worse, I know what I get at the HDR (well I hope what "I know" is still about the same). In any event, I will know in a few weeks.

Good catch on noticing it was his first post; have to wonder if he's even ever been to Costa Rica.

My take on dating or meeting apps: The more information you put out on one of those; name, phone number, email address, photos, likes (sexually speaking), opens oneself up to extortion by a talented party. That's not to say that a girl couldn't claim that she was "raped' in your hotel room. It's all a risky proposition. Back in the day, the HDR used to take care of their guests, but now it's a different game. A couple years ago I took a girl up to my room at the HDR, went in to take a shower and when I came out, she was looking under my mattress for whatever I may have stashed. I kicked her out before any money had changed hands and she cried, thinking she may be banned from the hotel. When I went down to the lobby security and reported her; the hotel security response was; "well, you chose the girl". That opened my eyes bigly!

My comment about the "pensions", was related to San Jose. The $200 figure I quoted about Jaco is what the girls "usually start out with.

As I stated previously; I'd much rather meet a girl in the bar, have a few drinks and judge her by whether she knows the bartenders, other girls I may know, etc.

Looking at the hotel, I had a feeling it might be "too upscale" prohibiting and / or discouraging (through high fees) lady visitors of the evening. I will go ahead and book at the HDR, tried and true so I know what to expect, then one night I'll stroll over to the Gran and check it out. One can tell a lot from the bar scene, and I will share back here what I learn.

Again, thank you for the kind reply.
