Hua Hin is excellent and worth the effort.

You won't find gogos or soapies.

You will find great small bar and massage areas, plus a hidden away late night area.

I live in Phuket, and love it, I am happy visiting Bangkok, and detest Pattaya.

Yet I am comfortable and relaxed whenever I am in Hua Hin.

Can you share why you don't like Pattaya? Too budy / crowded compared to Hua Hin?

Just a quick note of appreciation to all who responded to my request. A very mixed bag of responses with some saying Hua Hin is really worth the effort whilst others saying not worth it at all. As Mr E says, if you don't try you won't know. I a likely to be joined on the business trip by one colleague so will feed back with him and see what we decide to do. As he is in his 30's my guess is he will want the razz of Pattaya more than the tranquil Hua Hin but who knows. Interesting (and sensible) feedback on not taking a private water taxi! Cannot thank the responders enough for the valuable contributions.

I went with my girl because I wanted beaches. Maybe I was expecting too much. Also keep in mind that I did rent a car when we were there so I drove all around the place. My main reason was to go to the beach on the military base in Prachuap Khiri Khan that was supposed to be so good.

I thought about going to that military beach made somewhat famous by Joe, the Youtube vlogger. But on closer viewing it doesn't seem like anything special. I would think a drive 1 hour from Pattaya would get you a nicer beach. I've thought about Koh Chang this August or September but I was led to believe the island pretty much closed down due to rainy season. Ay thoughts on Koh Chang during rainy season?

I think a few days on the coast chilled out sounds really nice but the whole reason for seeking advice was to ask you guys on the ground and for Mr E (clearly one of the most senior and respected posters in the Thai forums) to take the view that Hua Hin has little to offer, is a worry.

I noticed a world of difference from the people you see in Pattaya and the Thai tourists I saw in Hua Hin. None of those people had tattoos!

A question for senior members who know Thailand very well.

I have an upcoming week only in beautiful Thailand.

Previously been to Banglok many times, Koh Samui, Phuket many times, Pattaya several times etc. Never been to Hua Hin or other islands.

I have only 1 week and fly into Bangkok where I have one business meeting. So that ensures one night in town and I fly out of BKK so that leaves 5 other nights. What would senior guys recommend? I wanted to go to both Pattaya and Hua Hin but they stopped the ferry so a long trip from one to the other. Would you guys do more nights in BKK or all 5 in either of Huan Hin or Pattaya or a mix? Want to avoid loads of flights.

I was in Udon Thani recently, and was struck by the number of elderly Farangs accompanied by much younger Thai ladies.

Since I am a firm believer in the 3 day rule, I can't imagine living with a Thai lady who is only in it for money. Actually, I did for a couple of months last year, during Covid. I kicked her out for whining about her Thai boyfriend all the time.

The exception is travel, I will go with a Thai lady abroad for a while. Being away from Thailand changes their perspective.

This is really informative thanks. Obviously a different take to Mr Enternational who doesn't rate Hua Hin. I have done Pattaya before but oddly didn't really like Walking street much. Not sure why as I like Phuket / Bangla Rd and Koh Samui but then in BKK I prefer Soi Cowboy, Therme and even Hilary (pool bar) to Nana. I just wanted to try somewhere new but from BKK without a flight the options are not great. Last time I did this I ended up flying all over (Phnom Penh / HCMC / KL / Sing) and felt exhausted and wondered if I should just have picked one or two places. A hint that I am getting older! I found myself using the soapies in Pattaya more than the nightlife albeit with one unforgettable night. The ferry would have made my mind up to go to both. I don't want to waste an entire day travelling in a car (be it 5 hours as Mr E suggests, or 8 in your experience). Wondering if I could get a private taxi boat but then equally don't want to risk some dodgy boat cutting out in the middle of the ocean! It's not about the cost for me. It's about the time. There are no direct flights.

Which leads me to a final question if you both don't mind: leaving aside Pattaya and Hua Hin completely, are there any other destinations you would have suggested to go to instead of either? Thanks for the help. Greatly appreciated.

I have been through Hua Hin a few times and there really isn't much there. Pattaya and Bangkok have such a huge variety Hua Hin really doesn't compare and as you said it is a bit of a hike there and not much in between. I personally would not like to get there via water taxi, the chance of being ill is high. A big ferry would be fine but as you said you would lose a day.

Apart from Pattaya and Bangkok I would suggest Phuket. The Island is beautiful and there are plenty of options.

The difference between Hua Hin and Pattaya are like night and day. Hua Hin is much more laid back and quiet. There is a night live scene and plenty of bars to hang out in. In May I had the same plans as you and chose to go to Hua Hin first. Never made it to Pattaya. I liked Hua HIn and decided to stay there. But that was me. I am a 67 year old man who has had a very stressful couple of years. I found plenty of companionship in Hua Hin and enjoyed the peace and quiet. If you want peace and quiet then go to Hua Hin. If you want lots of nightlife and an endless selection of women then go to Pattaya. The trip to Hua Hin is about 4 hours by car or bus. Once there you are looking at an 8 hour trip to Pattaya.

I am a handful or years behind you. Same story. Since March 2020 I never missed a day of work and reported to the office every day. Understaffed and lots to BUT I got shit done and now it is decompression time in Thailand for two weeks. Currently in Samui with a nice girl. Just give me peace and quiet and an Isan girl. Life is good!

Ain't shit in Hua Hin. I certainly would not waste it there. I don't think there are any flights to avoid. I think the drive from Pattaya to Hua Hin was like 5 hours and cost me 2500 baht in a private car.

Haha can't be real. Anyways, if a girl is advertising COF, that means you can cum on her face, but you'll probably be asked to aim for her mouth.
