As was just suggested, you need to check the Bangkok Hotels section. Also, get your Ipad out and enter Asoke BTS, then zoom out to search some of the many hotels available. You might find more than a few for $50. I would not necessarily recommend going for $30, but that's just me.

Look at Soi 18 - a little quieter than being right on Sukhumvit. Looks like there are a few choices on Soi 14, which would be even closer to Asoke. But maybe not as quiet.

How is BTS and MRT? Amazing, and cheap. Recommended!!

Today, I am performing a very difficult maneuver: I am going to the village with a bargirl. This is a classic ritual, if you barfine a lady twice, she will offer to take you to her village. Some Farangs believe this is a preliminary to marriage, or otherwise means they are very special.

The twist here is that I am going to two different villages with two different ladies today. Don't try this at home.

Actually, I am in the village for two days, I am staying in a rather low rent "resort". I had a third lady from a different village sleep with me last night. She was as hot as a firecracker, apparently it's not so easy for bargirls to hook up with a local guy when they come back to the village. If you ever lived in a small town, you would understand. She couldn't get enough, until I passed out.

Thanks for your assistance. Asoke seems centrally located from my research, close to the subway and light rail. Anyone have suggestions on moderately priced (30 to 50 bucks) lodging in the area? How is getting around via subway and light rail? I'm leery of cabs due to stories about ripoffs.

Of course not, they're professionals. Why would hookers care how fit you are? If anything, a few girls might avoid young guys since they prefer not to get rogered too hard for too long.

If you're looking for civilians, be forewarned that Farang are far less popular than 10-20 years ago (let alone back in 1977!) and lower your expectations. At your age, you might find your choices limited, but still more abundant than back home. ThaiFriendly is a decent place to look for civilians, mixed in with a few freelancers.

I don't know if you will understand this unless you've seen a lot of Thailand, away from the tourist traps even.

I mean by that, away from Bangkok, Pattaya, and even in Phuket.

I have traveled extensively, in Thailand, all of Isaan, up north and down south, seen the normal life of Thais you might say.

I didn't like the Thais attitude towards you in Pattaya.

They, and I mean girls, had become hardened, almost non Thai in cultural personality.

Way less real smiles, fun, and engagement.

Great Thai people, working girls, and others, are still there, but you have to work harder to break through their in place defenses.

In Hua Hin, I find the smiles are still genuinely there.

Maybe because most working girls there still live in communal "workplace" settings, so they still have linkages, not isolation.

Thanks for the reply, would you have some suggestions for smaller places to visit away from the beaten path that still offer some possibilities mongering wise like hua hin? I'm heading to LOS for 30+days in October and might consider to change places if I get tired of pattaya after 2/3 weeks.

First post after joining. Am planning for 30 or 40 days in Thailand Jan / Feb. Been researching a lot and would like any thoughts people might add. Thinking about BKK for a week or so, Pattaya for a week or, Phuket for a couple then back to Pattaya / BKK before heading back. Quit drink a ways back and the idea of go go bars doesn't trip my trigger, too noisy. I'm 66 so I wonder how big a factor that is with the ladies (I work out so pretty fit)? Was looking at the Aspira One Hotel in Suttisan? For a base camp to start. Right at a subway stop. Plan to both chase tail and sightsee. Is there a better area than that to start? Been spending hours looking at hotels in these spots. Does a guy need to book them now to be sure he gets what he wants or can I do that once I arrive. Hate to be tied down if a place is great. Having retired a bachelor I'm looking for a place to get out of the MT winters with reasonable costs. The ladies are a nice side benefit.

Spent time in BKK and Phuket long ago. Was in the Mississippi Queen bar on Pat Pong (IIRC) on New Years Eve 1977 and spent two weeks on Nang Hahn? Beach in Phuket staying in a bamboo thatch hut with a sand floor. Think there were only a couple resorts back then on the island, lots of hippie types from Oz and Europe. It was a blast. Glad to be on board and plan to share what fun I can find there on the forum.

Hua Hin is excellent and worth the effort.

You won't find gogos or soapies.

You will find great small bar and massage areas, plus a hidden away late night area.

I live in Phuket, and love it, I am happy visiting Bangkok, and detest Pattaya.

Yet I am comfortable and relaxed whenever I am in Hua Hin.

Can you share why you don't like Pattaya? Too budy / crowded compared to Hua Hin?

Just a quick note of appreciation to all who responded to my request. A very mixed bag of responses with some saying Hua Hin is really worth the effort whilst others saying not worth it at all. As Mr E says, if you don't try you won't know. I a likely to be joined on the business trip by one colleague so will feed back with him and see what we decide to do. As he is in his 30's my guess is he will want the razz of Pattaya more than the tranquil Hua Hin but who knows. Interesting (and sensible) feedback on not taking a private water taxi! Cannot thank the responders enough for the valuable contributions.

I went with my girl because I wanted beaches. Maybe I was expecting too much. Also keep in mind that I did rent a car when we were there so I drove all around the place. My main reason was to go to the beach on the military base in Prachuap Khiri Khan that was supposed to be so good.

I thought about going to that military beach made somewhat famous by Joe, the Youtube vlogger. But on closer viewing it doesn't seem like anything special. I would think a drive 1 hour from Pattaya would get you a nicer beach. I've thought about Koh Chang this August or September but I was led to believe the island pretty much closed down due to rainy season. Ay thoughts on Koh Chang during rainy season?

I think a few days on the coast chilled out sounds really nice but the whole reason for seeking advice was to ask you guys on the ground and for Mr E (clearly one of the most senior and respected posters in the Thai forums) to take the view that Hua Hin has little to offer, is a worry.

A question for senior members who know Thailand very well.

I have an upcoming week only in beautiful Thailand.

Previously been to Banglok many times, Koh Samui, Phuket many times, Pattaya several times etc. Never been to Hua Hin or other islands.

I have only 1 week and fly into Bangkok where I have one business meeting. So that ensures one night in town and I fly out of BKK so that leaves 5 other nights. What would senior guys recommend? I wanted to go to both Pattaya and Hua Hin but they stopped the ferry so a long trip from one to the other. Would you guys do more nights in BKK or all 5 in either of Huan Hin or Pattaya or a mix? Want to avoid loads of flights.
