As a matter of fact I took a taxi brousse on several occasions although only day trips with no overnight stays. The bus was overfull and on one occasion we had an accident en route and were delayed for many hours. It is cheap but it is not very comfortable.

My girlfriend and I opted for a private taxi and probably overpaid but we did not really have any viable alternative since the flights were all overbooked. We had a great trip and stopped several times to take in the sights and stayed in a half decent hotel half way to Toliara.

Thanks to Amadeuss and Tinte for the new travel options overland. After my 31 hour nightmare I will not bother this trip but next time around I will definitely give it a try at least one way. 7 people for a dedicated trip for 50 bucks is a great option to Tsaradia, especially if you have lots of time.

I agree with what has been said about the miserable state of the roads. Avoid the taxi brousse. There are frequent night time hold ups. Taking a private taxi is an alternative but is not cheap. Going from Tana to Toliara for example will run you about $400-500. But you can break journey halfway and stay in a hotel for about 50,000 ariara.

Yes, there had been hold ups years ago at night of taxi brousse. But that is over since long. Even at that time nothing at daytime. Meanwhile the traffic is much heavier and many trucks using the roads. They communicate with each other IF there is any weird situation.

Yes, most of the main roads like RN 5 or RN 7 are in a poor state: some streches need total repair, some bridges broken and then the road passes through a stream. But if you not only go to Mada for cheap fucking but to visit the national parks then you need to use the roads. Just take it easy.

Cotisse is a reasonable company for land transport. Meanwhile also Sonatra starts a premium service and some other small companies like Transmalala (www.transmalala.mg). For a trip by Taxi brousse make sure that you get a Merc Sprinter and not one of the small Hitachi Vans. Take the seat by the door in front, not the middle seat: your balls will be boiled because you sit on the engine. Prices to Fianar 35.000 AR. Fianar is a nice village for a 1 day stop with an interesting night life. From there to Tulear 40.000 AR. Each part takes 12 hours! Be prepared.

If you take a private car it does not cost you 500. -$ to Tulear. Or you prove that you are a vahaza ridicule! A typical price is between 40 to 60 $ per day for the car with driver plus the gasoline. 250. -$ to 300. -$ is a fair offer with stops at the various parks on the way. If you share with a friend its the way to go. Same refers to the way north to Diego.

Since Tsaradia got a new management, the company is as good as an airline in an African country can be. If you book on internet early you pay about 500.000 to 600.000 AR to the various destinations. Giving them your Mada telephone number and you will get updates if there are changes in the timing. You also can change your flight for a little fee. I took with them 4 domestric flights lately: all on time and without any incidents. But the few flights get quickly booked. Last day booking and you may not get any seat.

Mada is developing. Building industry is booming. Expect many changes in coming years.

Well 10 days there and I am beginning to see why it does not appeal to some guys. I first went in 2016 and really enjoyed myself and while I still do like the town the pussy situation has definitely deteriorated. In general I rarely traipse around town checking out any and all venues. I normally go to Taxi Be and pop in to La Vahinee for a look. The latter used to provide the occasional cheap looker, particularly daytime. These days, not so much. Taxi Be is still hopping most nights. I went on a Wednesday and it was packed to the rafters. Unfortunately there is not much on offer. Plenty of pussy but very few lookers and heaps of fatties that would have to pay me to fuck them! Then there is just the plain lousy lay. Some town info: I stay at the Hotel Imperial. Around 88 K a night, new firm matresses, AC, OK wifi (pain in the ass they change the fucking password every day!) and a fridge. Good sized rooms. Right down the street 30 metres away is La Cantine restaurant where I ate 75% of my meals. One of the cheapest in town and the food is pretty good, several specials on every day. Only drawback, can be very slow so if you are the impatient type go early or late. Very busy on a Sunday as one of the few places open.

Continuing with some of the weird money practices here. None of the banks would change my US dollars. Brand new crispy from my bank before I left. No idea why. Best I have found is MCB in Tana currently just over 4000. On another note, don't go to the bank on a Monday. Normally slow but even worse then. I realized when I was there it's obviously because they close early Saturday and all day Sunday.

On my two previous trips I was with my then Mada GF. So I never did experience any FLs firsthand. I saw them milling about here and there but never indulged. This time I am unaccompanied and am just curious what to expect. As always, I am thankful FR nay information about this and that.

Glacier hotel? Then you won't be far from glacier bar. There are lot of beggars in that area, be careful about that. Prices starts from 30.000, 40.000 ariary. You can also check the girls standing at night near Air Madagascar office.

We are four people arriving late, 23.25, the 5th of November in Antananarivo. I have search for airporttaxi but have not found. How much will it cost for a taxi to downtown? Will it be enough with one taxi? Four people with luggage. Anyone knows a private driver interested in picking us up?

No need for that. Airport Taxi is well organized. They will approach you and wear official badges. It's 70 k are fixed price to any location in Tana. But they're smaller cars. 4 people with luggage might be tight. You might need 2.
