2 AM they decided to go home and took a taxi in front of HK to the border. They wanted to drink more, so the cabbie suggested they go to a liquor store. He drove them around in El Centro and bought a 12-pack beers. Cabbie suggested they can drink in his cab no problem, while he drove back to the border and made a couple phone calls.

Cabbie drove them around El Centro a long time, allegedly heading back to the border. Within 5-10 minutes they got pulled over by a Tijuana policias car, charged with drinking alcohol in vehicle. All 4, guys and girls, were made to get out of the cab, spread eagle and searched. They were robbed of all their money, $800-900. Meanwhile the cabbie was not charged. Policias left them $5 to pay the cabbie to drive back to the border.

In this case it was obvious the cabbie set them up with his policias buddies for a quick rob. They could have been in far worse situation, planted drugs, kidnapped, raped, tortured, extorted for more money, if the criminals think they are rich and can pay big ransoms.

There are a lot of evils lurking in drug cartels' border towns, including any random cabbies, waiting to victimize the unsuspecting. A lot of local people can hardly scratch out a living in Tijuana, may have ties to drug cartels, and will turn to crime when having opportunities. In the past Tijuana cabbies have staged large demos, blocking roads and traffic in downtown. There are now reports cabbies in Cancun are harassing, blocking, beating up UBER drivers and riders. Tijuana cabbies will be assaulting UBER and LYFT drivers soon.

Safer to take UBER or HK's limousines. Only ride with known reliable people.

They gave him an excuse to call the police and leaving at that time the cab drivers have to be the shadeist of the bunch. Prob would've taken them to the border otherwise.

My (T-Mobile) internet connection period (not just Uber) is always shit in that area. I've never even once (going back several years) been able to connect around there. My connection doesn't start working until I get a little bit outside the area. I think it might have something to do with the cellphone tower shift once you cross the border, though I'm not knowledgeable enough about cellphone service connections to understand the specifics there.

Instead of Uber, I usually either take the free HK taxi or I take the 10 peso (or maybe it's 15 pesos now, don't remember) shared taxi van to Revolucion where you can walk a quarter of a mile or so to the Zona Norte area. Never had any problems doing this, even traveling with a large suitcase.

I have T-Mobile too and have experienced the same problem.

Go to your Settings and manually switch your network from t-mobile to TELCEL or Movistar.

It takes awhile but it should work and help you be able to use Uber.

Last time I was there uber did not work at the border on the mexico side. I would open the app and look for drivers but it would not load.

I heard they have disabled uber around the border because taxi drivers are getting mad that uber is taking business, so app doesn't work anymore.

Went down to Tijuana yesterday with my wingman at about 4 and club was happening, maybe lots of girls returned from home and that Chinese new year event, as it was still pretty early.

I did not notice any 10's this time though, but some 9's and 8's and everything lower.

At Hong Kong it was the opposite, business as usual. Adelitas I dont even remember, just went in and out once but they made no mention of it at the door. Theyre probably just grateful for any customers they can get.

Your post captures the same as it ever was anywhere anyplace: law and enforcement of said law are two different things and without the latter, the former might as well not exist.

Friday night there was no smoking in adelitas. Usualy I wave to wash my t shirt and light jacket in the shower in my hotel and dry it overnight in front of heater from the smoke. As a non. Smoker this is great. It was very odd to see so many people hanging out in the streets from all the little bars, employees, girls, customers, everyone's just on curb smoking. Just used Uber at PedEast a week ago, so no validity to this. I just had issue of getting reception in that area, even though Verizon is supposed to be pretty good (I've heard T-mobile is better at the border). Bought a cheap $125 android phone off ebay and bought a Telcel Sim card with a plan. I've had no issues since. Plus a burner phone & number for putas has been a huge plus.
