Dolce vita, Kalabria, Casablanca and Mabs are within a few blocks of each other. Monte Carlo is about a 10 minute walk down Copacabana. Yes congratulations to Explorer69 on hitting 40 years, I hit 40 years 3 years ago, I went around Rio and took pics of me at 40 years in same places I was at my first time for a before and after. Rio didn't change much but I sure did LOL.

Correct, You will get a phone number and you use service just like any other cell phone plan (depending on plan you select).
You get a data plan (for when you are away from Wifi) and You connect to WiFi on your phone (I. E. Hotel room or any place with WiFi) I don't make or receive phone calls since I only understand English, I primarily use it with WhatsApp (and social media and online services like Uber).

Poony describes it well but technically. The short version is it's exactly like TMobile or Att or whatever. But it works worldwide. I moved my burner service (they call it porting) from TMobile to Google Fi just as if I'm moving to any carrier. And now I have my same number worldwide. I absolutely LOVE it.

I have tested them all. Kalabria usually gets going at a later time. But it all depends. They are more or less the same. I usually start with Casablanca. Then move on if I don't find what I look for. Yes, they are all close to each other.

The marxist scum at goog will turn it offf after 3 months.
So a gringo who needs wifi should still go to central and get a local chip for 15 r, which he can recharge at any pharma.

Now I am in my 70 ies (Brazilians think I am in my 50 ies), but I still travel to Rio for work about every 3rd month and stay there 10-14 days.
Congratulations on your 40th Brazil Anniversary! Long Life, Longevity, and Happiness!!

The first time I was in Rio, I met a serious, non-working student girl and we were lovers for almost a year. She had to be home at her parent's house every day at 10 pm. After 10 pm, I was on my own! To be a young man, blue-eyed and blond in Rio was a hit!
I have had many long-lasting relationships with very proper, non-working girls. Also sugar babies and of course: garotas de programa. Now it is mostly the latter! I usually start the evening having a drink at Mabs usually I am alone. Often a terrible place and little / nothing of interest. However, if you stay an hour, a few times it is possible to find a diamond a young, unspoilt girl who drops by because she needs some money for her studies or maybe for a new pair of jeans. If I find such a girl, I often have her back evening after evening. When I am fed up at Mabs, I continue to Casablanca. Many hard boilt garotas with considerable mileage, but also here there are exceptions. I can also go home alone if I don't find the right one. Last year I took the stripper (originally from Salvador de Bahia) with me home great experience mucho sexo a couple of hours like passionate lovers! I like the club atmosphere, try to find some chemistry. I am not into 30 minutes sessions any longer. Termas was for my young days. Of course, I am not limited to Mabs and Casablance, just examples.
Brazilian women are usually badly treated by their boyfriends lovers husbands. If you behave like a gentleman and treat them tenderly and with respect your reward is without any borders. This includes garotas de programas they will in most cases pay you handsomely back! But most of all it is in the soul of Brazilian women!
I have almost completely kept my activities around Copacabana for convenience because I have limited time due to lots of work. However, after Eastern I am back for only beach and women to celebrate my 40th anniversary as a Rio vet. Then I will visit Villa Mimosa, Mosaico, Barra, and Centro. Never too late for new experiences!
Just some nostalgic thoughts from an old fart. Praised be the Brasilenas! They are the most wild, tender, sexy, passionate, uninhibited, addictive creatures on earth!! Made for love and to be loved and praised!

Thanks, makes sense. Judging from the information posted on the sites of US embassies in Colombia and Brazil, Colombia is significantly more dangerous.
I think if I read the info about Colombia before making my first trip there, I would never make a trip there:

When Hooker Beach was rocking years ago, you could squeeze in an afternoon session for a good price. The girl would disappear with you for awhile presuming you stayed near the beach. That might not be true anymore. Back then, hot girls could always find a score at night. An afternoon session at the beach was a bonus for them.
Her throwaway first ask was are $1,000! When I told her I wouldn't dream of paying half of that she asked what I was prepared to offer! However, whilst this was all going on through Zap I happened to have a mind blowing sexual experience elsewhere at a cost closer to are $200, so I've currently put the beach discussion on hold.
More details will follow here on the intervening event. Once I get bored. In the meantime I'm planning to make hay (it'll take me about a week to tire based on previous experience!

My thoughts exactly. Brazil is the best place on Earth for a guy, all things considered.
Enjoyed your tribute!

I'm currently working on one of them through WhatsApp, but her expectations are currently rather high for me!

You can get a brand new number if you want. That's what I did. I leave my regular phone in the room and use an inexpensive phone I got on Amazon. Or you can port an existing number if you want. There's a few different plans and you have the option to shut off data or the whole plan. It does reactivate after 3 months of inactivity automatically. They send you an email notification and you can easily shut it back off. Google fi runs on whatever network is available, so yes it is running on a Brazilian mobile network. It also automatically switches to wifi to save you data and minutes if you have a wifi connection.

This I was unaware of. Thanks for sharing it. I wonder if you ran vpn for a couple days if that would work. Maybe put it in airplane mode before you go to bed. Then in the morning turn on the vpn and run it for a day or two then do the reverse. I know that's a pain the ass but it could be a possible work around for someone long term out of country.
I usually only do a week or 2 max trip so google fi is perfect for me. When I retire I may have to look for a better option.
