Is anyone even surprised? The current management team was hopeless. The writing was on the wall. Taormina has never been a del ray and never will. Their management has been very poor. There is no shortage of lying cunts on this and other forums who claim that Costa Rica scene is still alive where as the fact is that most mongers have moved on to Medellin and other places.

Strong language. And yes, some have moved. But the scene has changed, but many of my friends that go there still prefer Costa Rica over Colombia and other places. And if I am a lying **** then you are an asshole. Why the anger? The Del Rey has been a dump for years, and got worse. Time to put it out of its misery, although it will probably open up when they get their tax thing paid. But there are lots of chicas around and the scene there is very user friendly which I much prefer to Colombia in many ways.

No big surprise and no big loss with the HDR closing. But, Costa Rica is still a viable destination! Maybe you just had bad experiences. It's still my number one destination for a safe experience. The Taormina is as close to the Del Rey as there is in SJO. The Cocal is always packed on weekends, if you like the beach scene.

It isn't really about the exchange rate; it's about the chicas' perception of whether you are a bobo or not. I lived in San Jose and dozens of chicas told me that when guys thought and dealt in dollars, they knew they could probably inflate their prices in general. Argentina same thing. Colombia same thing. Mexico same thing. It is a harbinger of naivete, not dealing in the local currency.

Often that is true.

Recently with the US dollar going down against the colon who knows. May be the only country in the world where their currency is up 20 or 25% against the US dollar in the last 8 months or so. So in June last year for example 70 mil would have been $100 US, now it is 54 mil. And it is not beyond belief that lots of chicas would ask for something more than 54 mil even when asking for $100 US. Just saying.

I recommend Taormina. Taxis are plentiful. USD accepted. I may not have been in the know to use colones. ATM's are available nearby.

I'm not going to be able to help with all your questions. I just returned from a Sunday to Thursday trip this week.

I was in San Jose Sunday, Monday and Wednesday night and Jaco on Tuesday.

San Jose. HDR bar is currently closed. SL is open but the girls were not great. Taormina is the place to go really. Sunday and Monday was ok but Wednesday was busy. See the Jaco post for my comment about Jaco on a Tuesday night.

I used seeking.com to meet message girls in both areas but they wanted way more than the bar girls. Most quoted US $300-$500.

I'm not sure about colones. I just paid with US dollars.

1. Sometimes it is booked so you may need to book in advance. At the moment probably not fully booked.

2. Taxis or Ubers or private taxis are all available.

3. USD accepted at hotel, and generally by the girls.

4. No ATM on site, but a 5 or 6 minute walk in daytime to the closest ATMs.

Reservations in advance, always. The place is popular. The front desk will call you a taxi. USD is accepted but is only offered by dummies. ATM on site not sure. Their website might say.
