A blast from the seemingly distant past!

Thank you Zhuren! I appreciate the referral! I will for certain take a look. I mean who doesn't like red wall paper and gold tassels! Of maybe I just spent too many years on the mainland and developed some of those tastes! Those were some very good evenings at Maggie's and CP. I am happy that I had a chance to experience them both. However, living above a massage business and across the street from one of the best saunas in CP just about killed me. Probably good I left before the downfall.

The "Northern Sisters" are still some of my all time best life experiences. That involve female companionship.

Upscale Alternatives to Hilton and Marriott

I stayed at the Baraquda when I visited Pattaya for the first time. Splashed out and got a suite, which was very nice. If the Baraquda fits your price range, it's a solid choice.

As Mr. Boi notes, first-time visitors should probably book lodging in the area bounded by the beach on the west and Soi Buakhao on the east. Given the recent rise of Tree Town as a naughty boy draw, and the increasing action on Soi LK Metro, Soi Chaiyapoon and environs, I'm less enthusiastic about the north end of town than he seems to be. I recommend staying south of Pattaya Central Road and north of South Pattaya Road. In that area Tree Town and the surrounding area is within easy walking distance. As is the Central Festival high rise mall, and absolutely everything you'd ever need in the way of dining, shopping, laundry, gyms, barbers, cinema etc. When you head out for the evening, if you fancy Soi 6 it's silly simple to use the baht buses to go north on Second Rd. If you prefer Walking Street, take a southbound baht bus on Beach Road. For those of you who have been to Manhattan, the guidance is similar: For short distances, especially east and west, walking is easy. For longer distances, especially north and south jump on a baht bus.

I'm jealous. A gent only gets one chance to visit for the first time.

It seems that many are happy to stay at the Hilton, as the price I was able to get in Feb / March is no longer available, and its not close. I don't think I am a cheap charlie type, but was asking to see if there were similar options. Thanks for the Treetown mention, I will give it a look.

    Best,

Sorry bro; I didn't mean to sound like a dick. I thought the Hilton was still an option for you. Depending on what kind of accommodations you require, I have rented a condo at View Talay 6 my last two trips. It is right next to the Hilton and is a great location as well. And it is really quite affordable. Google Honey's Coffee House as she is the manager of many units there. Good luck!

No Grab in Pattaya. Only huge scammer taxis and the odd Bolt driver here and there. Bolt is cheap so if you can get one that's great. A taxi from a hotel not on the main baht bus route may run you upwards to 200-300 baht per direction. There are also motorbikes for 50-100 baht but make sure you have good travel insurance for that. What I'm trying to say is get the lay of the land, figure out which area you will be going to most and get your hotel there along a 10 baht baht bus route. Safest area for first timers who enjoy bars is between South Pattaya and North Pattaya Road between Beach Road and Soi Buakhao.

I don't know how long you plan to be in Pattaya, but perhaps just book the first two or three nights ahead of time and see how you like the hotel and location and then decide how to proceed. One of the best things about Patts is how easy and convenient it is to switch hotels because everything is compact and close. I never book more than three nights at a time.
Actually that is a great suggestion, I appreciate it. Will give it a try. After this first go around I will have a "boots on the ground" idea of how much trouble needing to take a baht bus or Grab car causes to get back and forth to the hotel.

    Best,

    Sky.

It also depends on what area you want to be in (Central Pattaya, Tree Town, WS, Soi 6 etc.). For instance one commenter mentioned Grande Center Point which is on average around $100 whilst the Hilton is on average around $150. Hilton is very central to everything whereas Grande Center Point is north, albeit on the baht bus route.

I forgot about Baraquda which I have stayed at several times and enjoyed it. Great location, good rooms, and good breakfast buffet. Highly recommended for a first time visitor IMHO.

Yep, I am kind of getting that idea.

Yes Hiltons and Marriotts tend to be overpriced in Pattaya.

Just search five star hotels in your desired area and you'll be fine.

Also Grande Centerpointe Terminal 21 which is attached to the mall. Kavara is a brand new hotel with a great location. It is so new that it still may be under construction but it will open soon if not open already. Also check out LK The Empress which is a beachfront hotel. Holiday Inn is beachfront, luxurious but just not as convenient to the action.

I would go with Hermann or Blackwoods personally if I were looking for something on the fancy side.
Thank you allover! I will take a look at all of these hotels and see what fits. I do appreciate the effort to respond.

Fire up you favorite search engine and search for "Groovy map of Pattaya." He'll see that the parts of Pattaya favored by naughty boys are quite small and close together. If he stays in the central part of town, he can walk to most of them, or take the baht bus. Google "Pattaya baht bus map" to see the different routes.

As for lodging, sounds like Mr. Ryder is looking for something rather upscale. You get what you pay for, and luxury digs are going to cost. Generally speaking, you get more bang for the buck the farther east you go. Anything east of Soi Buakao will offer better value for money. There are several hotels in the LK chain in Pattaya, and they're well reviewed. The Areca Lodge has some nice rooms. There are also some nice condos at the View Talay 6 offered for short term rentals. That place is about as central as it's possible to be.

    Greetings Mr. Bunky,

Thank you for your reply, I now realize I need to be more explicit in my postings as to make sure those who read them will be left with no doubt as to my meaning. I would have thought that "I am planning to make my inaugural visit to Pattaya with the plan of having some minor dental work done at the end of May timeframe. " As well as "I have read this thread and a couple of others back far enough to where it make sense but would like to put a question to the group. " , would have indicated that you are correct. It is in fact my first visit, but probably better just to say that, lesson learned. While I can appreciate that using a map has it's advantages, even with names of hotels written in bold print it would not have been much good since I would have no experience. My purpose was to have access to the vast knowledge of those who read this forum and if they are so inclined to leave a message for my benefit. I am pretty sure that I indicated I had in fact read the forum a reasonable number of pages back. It doesn't seem to be that information coming from pre-2000 is likely to be that germane to today's environment. I do appreciate your offerings and will endeavor to be less obtuse in future postings. Thank you for your time.

    Sky.
