Posts: 161Several shootings have happened across from HK. The pushers are doing open outcry right next to HK. The cops and national guard and army are just for show.

Also the Cartels like to send messages to threaten those that they are after like what happened to the one that got killed near Ensenada.
If for some reason they wanted to send a message it wouldn't be HK but one of the smaller bars that they would go after. So if you are scared to go visit HK that's on you but to me nothing has changed as far as the risk you take stepping into that bar.

Posts: 142It may have been in an area on the travel warning list, there are 2 chances of that happening in the Tijuana red light district, slim and none.

Posts: 142We know what they are capable of, We also know they are organized crime, like the mafia have a Robin Hood image. Just like when some tourists in Mexico were killed in a cross fire the cartels turned over the perpetrators to LE. It would be like łthe mob killing people in speak easy's during prohibition.

I have no idea what you are talking about with you talking to the female guards at HK? You don't speak Spanish.
So you think the only way in and out of HK is from and back entrance?

If HK's owners keep resisting paying, the cartel will step up pressure, kidnapping women and children, whacking key employees, may be holding up, robbing the bar and all clients of cash.
If that still doesn't work, they will finally destroy the business to warn others.
That happened to Casino Royale in Monterrey. 52 died in the fire.

But then how do you explain all the drive-bys in the callejon?
Wouldn't it make more sense to stalk the cuantos guys and hunt them down elsewhere?
Instead they fire at will in a dense area and bystanders have been hit.

Posts: 2422I am actually a little surprise everyone is concern about reported shootings now, because it's sort of the norm for years in the zona norte. The last time that waiter got popped and they dragged his body out to the sidewalk and I saw him bled to death, it didn't even make the papers the next day. Mexico is not dangerous per se. But Tijuana is kinda like the boonies. And no one gives a shit about the zona norte.

Posts: 142I had an uncle in the Italian mafia.
They would shake down strip joints and massage parlors in NY all the time. They would never initiate any violence near or in public view of the establishments. It's not good for business. The cartels are a comperable organization with similar guidelines.
[1 QUOTE=BrotherMouzone;2835838]Well I wouldn't say I'm "living in fear" or I probably wouldn't go down there in the first place. But I do think it's prudent to at least be cognizant of what's (possibly) going on behind the scenes there. The article I linked previously stated that a source inside the state attorney general's office overseeing Tijuana told the reporter that "gangs affiliated with cartels have been threatening and extorting club owners" in recent months and that "crime organizations" were "trying to establish control" of HK / other Zona Norte clubs. I figure this kind of stuff has always gone on in the past to some extent but I've never seen it reported publicly before, which IMO is a sign that criminal efforts to exert control over the clubs are intensifying (perhaps greatly so).
Will all of this lead to shootouts / more violence in the clubs? Like you I greatly doubt it but Tijuana is rarely predictable and IMO it's worth staying informed about POSSIBLE safety concerns down the road, even if the chances of anything crazy actually happening are low. All it takes is one crazy incident for everything to blow up LOL. [ / QUOTE].
