If your driving a car in Thailand, The Philippines, Malaysia etc and your a foreigner know one thing. No matter who was at fault if its a foreigner vs a local the foreigner will always be at fault. Have the cash on hand to pay off the other people and the first cop who shows up. They won't be asking you for your auto insurance card. You'll be expected to pay for all damages and for all of the lost wages of anyone who's hurt even if its your fault or not. Local sees a foreigner driving a car and there's always that chance that they'll try to get into an accident for a payday. Oh you can argue but the person with the most money is expected to pay. But this also works in your favor if you do something like driving drunk, just bribe the first cop you see and off you go in most cases.

I know a German guy who had an accident in Thailand. He had a dash cam and his insurance's lawyer arrived on the scene quickly. The German guy was vindicated. The insurance lawyer was very efficient.
