Returning to PI after a 33-year hiatus!

I has been a very long time, so I do have a few questions. And yes, I will continue to RTFF.

    History first:

The US Navy introduced me to Subic Bay in 1978. That was when I started my long mongering career. Being on ships, we spent quite a bit of time in the Subic Bay; I loved the place.

In 1991, my ship was in Subic Bay during the eruption of Mount Pinatubo. Both bases were destroyed and we helped evacuate the military families.

Now I am headed back and looking forward to a new experience.

    My itinerary:

Malina – Three nights at New Coast Hotel.

AC – Six nights at ABC Hotel.

Olonapo – Two nights (no hotel yet).

    Questions:

What are your thoughts on my itinerary?

Is private transportation available to and from the cities I selected?

BTW, are there and midgets available? (asking for a friend).

    Thanks to all in advance.

    Tijuana.

Hi NR, thanks for the tip but airpods are just an other thing for me to get familiar with. I also find them to be a bit of a turn-off when someone's using / wearing them. I find the attention seems to be elsewhere of the people using them. However, I'm sure there's a similar solution as you suggest. Phil.

Thanks G. The app I've experimented with does do a fairly good job of translating. At least you get a basic idea of what they're chatting about. And the Talagog I've got hold of, was lost on me in parts of Cebu. When you've got three girls rubbing you up in a bar it would be nice to know exactly what they're saying. However, when I've generally been in this situation without knowing what they're saying, I then spit out a line like "gusto ko kayong lahat" ie: "I'd like to fuck all of you" and I get the shock, horror look from them all, thinking "Fuck, he speaks Tagalog and can understand us." Phil.

Thanks Westie, you're a fucking genius and why the hell didn't I think of that. The I'm sure there's better apps out there than the one I have. I was just a late starter with mobile / cell phones which are now mini computers. I spend most of my time on a laptop for my business.

The only exception is Visayans who are proud of their heritage and really promote the use of Bisaya.

    Cheers. G.

    Tagalog translation apps

    Hi Guys,

This might be a bit 'out there' but I'm looking for a good phone app that translates Tagalog to English.

Although my Tagalog is getting better with every and numerous visits, it would be nice in some situations where you can work out what they're saying about you:).

Therefore something incognito. For instance if you've got a girl in your room and she's talking to someone on her phone, sometimes it would be nice to know what she's saying.

I've downloaded one which is pretty good but it repeats the English out loud once it translates rather than just writing the text on your screen, which is a bit of a give-away.

A few years back I ended up with a Chinese girl for the night and her English was non-existent (great root though) and she had a similar app to what I'm after and it was our only means of communication, which was great.

    Thanks in advance _ Phil.

For those who thought encrypted apps were safe.

So where do I take this girl? Cebu? Bohol? Subic? Dumaguete? Iloilo / Guimaras? Somewhere on Leyte or Samar?
Mate, try Bantayan Island in Cebu. A bit of a hike to get there, but well worth the visit for a romantic gig, extremely relaxing, better than Boracay (in my opinion) and not your typical girly scene. As always, proceed with caution and don't do your balls over her until you know for sure it's reciprocal. Just saying. Phil.

It shouldn't be too onerous to reach from Manila; flights and buses are both okay, long ferry trips less so. At the same time, I am okay with there also being at least a few commercial distractions (I. E. Malls, movie theaters, food, possibly a hotel pool etc.).
    Puerto Princesa.

I would recommend El Nido, or maybe even Boracay (problem with Boracay is that it only has the beach). Those places might have too many foreigners for your taste, but the average age level is not too young.

You can fly from Manila to Puerto Princesa, and then you can take a shuttle to El Nido. Then you can fly from El Nido to either Manila or Clark.

The girl is from Mindanao but lives in Manila now. I am hesitant to propose to her that we go to her part of the country, as I don't see any upside to involving her family.

Am I making a grave mistake even considering this? Generally I try not to get committed in any way, but given the good experience last year, I figured I'd give her another shot before she turns 20 and ages out of my target group. It doesn't have to be 4 weeks, could just be 3 or 2.

As usual, I am forever grateful for the advice offered on this forum!

Many thanks. The info is greatly appreciated.

I don't need speed. 90% of the time I'll be on hotel wifi. Outside it's just WhatsApp messages and the occasional Google maps.

    Thanks again, G.

If you have a 3 g phone it will still work if the 2 G network is active just lower data speeds like going back to 1991, phasing out 2 g or even 3 g will take a very long time or may never happen in the philippines, we are talking decades to phase out 2 g in the philippines and 3 g is still operational in the provence due to 2 g-3 g reliability vs 4 g and 5 g. The towers they use in the provence are pretty shit and you can still get 2 g and 3 g signals. The banks still use 3 G in the philippines in the ATM's. There is no way they can phase out 2 G in the philippines, too many devices need this and I have not heard any plans to phase out 2 g at all in the philippines as VoLTE propagation is extremely low. So they still nesd 2 G for basic services which means your dinosaur phone although crippled data speed will still work in provence most likely until everyone who reads this has died. A lot like divorce I think phils will be the last 2 G holdout.

https://mb.com.ph/2023/10/23/the-gre...rom-2-g-to-5-g this talks about how "Certain services today, like telecare facilities and payment terminals still rely on 2 G or 3 G connectivity. " its just not possible for phils to drop these towers due to them propping up this unique infrastructure.
