Hello gents, I am here in Lima for the first time. It's early afternoon on Tuesday and I am about to write a report with a happy ending.

I arrived in Lima late Sunday night and stepped on Peruvian soil for the first time. Customs was a breeze. Even sitting in the back half of a full flight, the line was less than 2 minutes.

Phone service: I have a T-Mobile plan that works in Peru but has a 5 GB limit, which I believe I ate into when I was in Colombia last week. So I thought it might be best to get a Peruvian SIM card at the airport. I figured the cost would be extremely cheap like it is in Colombia (less than $3 USD for 2 GB / 5 days with Claro Colombia SIM). I was wrong. The place at the airport tried to charge me 95 soles ($27) for 2 GB of data over 4 days. I thought the price was. 80 soles plus a 15 sole activation fee - 15.8 soles. Fortunately, I caught my error in time and canceled the transaction but I was still charged the 15 sol activation fee. My T-Mobile international roaming has worked perfectly here in Lima with no issues. They also have Claro here, but you need to get Claro Peru. Claro Colombia will not work. I imagine the cost of Claro Peru would be very reasonable, but with my T-Mobile working fine I don't have a need for it.

Weather: The weather is cool, but not cold. The high is around 68 degrees F / 21 degrees see in the day and the low is around 58 degrees F / 14 degrees see at night. One thing I would recommend for everyone before you come: chapstick. I was here for less than 24 hours before my lips started to crack. The air is very cool and dry here. It is autumn in Peru right now. I did not see the sun today and I am told that is the norm. Very cloudy but dry.

Altitude: Sea level. Lima is right on the coast. Finally a mongering city that doesn't require an acclimation period AND isn't unbearably hot & humid! Gracias por Dios!

Population: Massive. More than 15 million people live in the greater Lima area. It is the 3rd largest city in Latin America. Before I stepped on plane yesterday, I thought Lima was a sleepy little hamlet. Why are there no direct flights to or from this enormous city?

Transportation: The Uber fare from the airport to the place that most tourists apparently go (Miraflores) is high. Like 50 or 60 soles. I was not going to pay that. I was accosted by the usual aggressive taxi cab drivers trying to take me there for high prices. I intentionally lowballed them to get them away from me when they wouldn't take no gracias for an answer (I offered 10 soles). I then walked to the bus stop just trying to get out of the airport and to a place where the Uber fare would be lower. Couldn't figure out how to get on the bus at 11 pm at night. So I just rolled my suitcase outside the airport and started walking down the sidewalk along the road that runs in front of the airport (Avenue Elmer Faucett). I went about 30 meters down the sidewalk and checked Uber. Suddenly the fare had dropped to 28 soles because my pickup location was no longer in the airport. Before I could accept, a cab driver pulled up in front of me and I asked him if he could match the Uber quote of 28 soles. He did and soon I was at my hotel.

I did not go out last night. I was exhausted so I got a full night of sleep in a very comfortable bed at the Del Prado Hotel. I would recommend the hotel except 1) it was noisy with traffic in the morning, 2) the water temp in the shower was very difficult to adjust and 3) it did not seem chica friendly at all based on how polite and courteous the staff were. I would not do the walk of shame in front of those nice people even if they allowed it. Cost was $55 USD. Very close to the high end clubs.

My current hotel is Aku Hotel. I love it here. Cost is $37 USD and honestly I could not ask for a better, cleaner, more modern or more convenient accomodation. Anything better than this is utterly wasted on me. Not sure if it's girl friendly, but I think I am about to find out if I decide to rebook for tomorrow night!

Currency Exchange: Due to going to Colombia first and not being sure if I was going to Peru, I did not order Peruvian currency from my bank. I arrived in Lima without a single sol. I ended up withdrawing 400 soles from the ATM at the airport, with a 25 sol fee plus any bank fee. In retrospect that was a bad move, but still better than the airport currency exchange. The best currency exchange rate offered at the airport was 3. 22 soles per dollar. One offered 3. 11 soles. The "official" rate yesterday was 3. 78. I know the exchange has to make money, but I was hoping to get closer to the official rate. I would have gladly accepted 3. 5. Well I found the solution. CAPITAL EXCHANGE at Avenida Canaval why Moreyra 233! There they gave me 3. 75 soles for every one of my dollars! With ZERO FEES! By the end of the day today, the rate had dropped to 3. 74, so they actually paid me above market rate. I gave them two crisp 100 dollar bills and they gave me 750 soles and a receipt. My only regret is that I didn't exchange more!

Prices: Very cheap. Especially compared to Colombia. You can get a very nice meal here for 60 soles ($16) and a good meal for 30 soles ($8). In Medellíand or Cartagena, a good meal will be at least 60 k pesos ($15) and a very nice meal will be 100 k pesos ($25). And so far, the food has been better here.

Traffic: Unimaginably Awful. The main drawback so far of Lima is the traffic. The traffic here makes Bangkok seem like Montpelier on a Sunday afternoon. It is gridlock at virtually all hours of the day in many parts of the city. Nonstop honking. Difficult to cross the street. Getting from one side of the city to the other takes forever by car or bus. I have never seen a city more badly in need of a subway or light rail system. If one exists here, it has eluded me.

Fortunately, the sidewalks are high quality, the weather is good, and the city is flat. So if you are like me and you like to walk, getting around on foot is very easy.

Safety: The parts of the city I have visited, including LOS Olivos, are absurdly safe. I am talking South Korea level safe. Maybe it's because I am used to biding time in Santa Fe, Bogota, but I have never felt safer in any Latin American city. My main worry is trying to make the locals feel safe around me.

Overall, Lima is the closest thing to a first-world city I have seen in Latin America. A little more modern than Bogota. However, most parts are very dirty. It's like New Orleans or San Francisco in the winter. But still a very first-world feel to it.

People: Peruvians are extremely nice and they speak Spanish slowly, so I can understand many of them very well. Night and day to Bogota. The people here are friendly but also seem a little shy and conservative. I have not had one single person ask me for money, and I walked a lot of places today.

Women: I read the reports saying Peruvian women are ugly. And they ain't lying. It's bad here. Real bad. Maybe one out of eight Peruvian women 18-44 is even fuckable, I am talking above a 3. Most of them have very indigenous facial features, dad bods, dress conservatively and many wear glasses. Not a pretty sight at all.

But far from being a turn off, this situation is actually quite endearing. Because it is obvious that the men in Lima love their ugly women. For though they are not the most pleasant to look at, they exude warmth, positivity and comfort with who they are. They seem to be very easy to love. I walked around the Megaplaza Norte yesterday and just marveled at the sight of all these pudgy plain women being pampered and doted on by their adoring boyfriends. And the women were just glowing with happiness and soaking up all the attention. It was like a Botero painting come to life.

It was nice to see. Fat and ugly women need love too. In most other countries, these women would be ignored or pushed aside. But not here. I think Lima is a great place for women. Competition is low and appreciation is high.

Not seeing attractive women everywhere you look, like you do in Miami or Colombia, allows you to focus on the culture and attractions and also makes you appreciate the few beautiful women that you happen to come across.

But I digress. On to the mongering report!

I woke up in Lima on Monday morning ready for some action. After changing hotels I followed in the well-chronicled footsteps of Tom Jacklin and headed north to the "chongos. " It was about a 45 minute Uber ride from Lince to LOS Olvidos, and the traffic was atrocious. My first stop was Las Sirenitas. I arrived around 4 pm.

I need to pause here and describe what a chongo is for all of you that don't know. Because I read many pages of reports on here, but when I arrived at Las Sirenitas, I had no idea what I was getting into. I just knew they were going to take all my condoms and make me turn my phone off.

A chongo is like a hotel. It consists of a main lobby area with a bar, stage, and seating area. Then there are a labrynith of hallways with numbered doors. There were probably 30-40 chicas standing outside rooms at Las Sirenitas when I visited on a Monday afternoon. All of them charge 50 soles for 20 minutes. There were about the same number of men roaming the halls. There was traditional Spanish music playing everywhere to liven up the mood. I asked several of the chicas where they were from, and got varied responses from Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador. I don't think any of them were from Peru. Many were attractive and a few were hot, especially in comparison to the women in Lima. I did not get a chica and left after about 30 minutes.

La Miel: My next stop was La Miel, which was just a few blocks south of Las Sirenitas. It is right beside La Colmena VIP. I paid 5 soles for entry and was ushered into a bar / restaurant looking area with about 20 men and zero women. It was apparent to me that the men were waiting for something, so I waited too. If you have seen three chongas, you have seen them all. Not worth my time.

So here are my thoughts on the chonga setup. It was quite a culture shock to me and I was not mentally prepared for it at all. A lot of things I have read on this thread about guys waiting in line and chicas having sex with five guys in an hour makes sense now. Where else can you do that? It is also an extremely safe environment and my understanding is that the chicas are regularly tested for diseases.

I think most guys wonder about that. Well, at the chonga, you don't have to wonder. You can see the guys lined up at her door, waiting to bang your little darling. Bottom line for me is that the economics of it make a lot of sense. The chicas make their money on high volume, and the guys get a lot of variety for a short but hopefully adequate experience at a dirt cheap price. It's not pretty, but neither is a fast food restaurant. But we all still eat the food. So I think I will give the chonga model a try before I leave.
