what with all the strife we hear about in nl, i'd really like to get your opinion: do you think it's safe now to go to bt? have you been there lately? i know in the past you've said that it's all much ado about nothing and that life goes on as usual... but man, i dunno. i haven't been down since january and i'm feeling kind of reluctant... it's not that i think i'll get caught in the crossfire of some pitched gun battle; but man, i hear about the kidnappings of some pretty normal and nice sounding folks from laredo; plus the report posted two weeks ago or so about bt being a ghost town, with cops hungry for shakedowns, and i ask myself, is it worth it??

i'm pretty much like you--i'm an older gringo guy, i show respect when i'm down there, and i have always received respect in return... even so, i'm gonna be interested in what you have to say about these extraordinary times...many thanks bro!

good to see you back man. i stand by what i have said all along down here. show respect, behave yourelf and you will have no problems.

the kidnappings you have been reading about here are basically people being where they shouldn't be or trying to get involved in something they should stay away from.

the war going on between the narcotraficantes and cops is kept pretty much away from the civilian population. i think they realize that once a civilian is involved in the crossfire, then all hell is going to break loose on them so it seems they are pretty careful

we have a very heavy presence of federal and state police with the army doing the roadblocks outside the city limits. live goes on as normal.

for army vato....drive your car using common sense. no right turns on red, watch your speed and again, act like your momma raised you and you will have no problems. i have several nice late model vehicles down here and have never had a problem. check with your insurance company for coverage within the zona frontera. i have mine with fred loya and i am covered to the interior checkpoint. this is in writing by the way!

Well you guys have giving me some great advice. So I should take a taxi, no problem. So where do I park my car in Laredo that I don't know? I'd rather drive all the way. I've been driving to Mexico from Tijuana to Gaudalajara to San Luis Potosi from as far as I can remember, but if you guys say take a taxi is better, it must be, since I've never been to Boys Town in Laredo.

So, if you already know how to get to the Bus Station, once you're on Calle Anahuac, instead of taking the left to the bus station, just go straight under the railroad bridge, until the next light, and turn right at the next stoplight (Calle Monterrey) - there is a Pemex. The compound will be on your left. It's about 5 blocks from the bus station.

On another note, your handle reminded me of sitting inside the Tamyko Club in Nuevo Laredo's Boys Town one night a few years ago. Sitting with one spinner, talking.

Went down to BT a couple of weeks ago, and I thought I would make a short trip report. This would have been Satuday, Mar, 12. This time I rented a room at the Star Bar, $17 for 12 hours. I did this so I would have a place to rest and shower between performances. I am not as young as I once was and need a little recovery time between performances. It also gave me a place to get away from the loud music and pushy girls when I wanted to rest. The room was just like one of the door girl rooms, with a bed , a shelf and a bathroom with toilet and shower. It was in the courtyard behind Star Bar and was relatively quiet. Hmm, Boys Town a ghost town? Yeah some clubs have closed over the last year or so - Pimp Daddy's and TaBu - but the rest of the clubs are humming. It's still tough to find a table at Danash or Papagayo's. I'm going down every 1-2 weeks, and am having as good a time as ever. There are many new girls coming regularly, the place is as good as it ever has been. Heck just a week ago there were like 5 new girls in Papagayo's I had never seen before (since the last week!), a couple of which we're among the best I've ever seen down there.

Police shakedowns on the rise? Of innocent gringos? The report from 2 weeks ago you're referring to seems vague, my guess would just be regurgitating what's been posted here. I certainly have never been the victim of anything of the sort, have seen no increase of reports in recent months.
