Your best bet for daytime action in Santos is probably Aeroporto 147, on Av. Antonio Bento, tel. (013) 3224.4253. Next best are escorts, call one, arrange a meeting at a bar, then go to a motel. Recomended:
Melissa ...013 97882713 best in Santos
    Fatima - (13) 9704-1237 blond, big booty
Sabrina - (013) 3224.2899 brunetts, 19yo, skinny but well built. BBBJ, has an apartment
Keity (013)3224.1029 blond, built, BBBJ, enjoys what she does, has her own apartment.

from the newspaper, no idea if they are any good:
    Bia/Bruna 013 3228-1459
    Patrícia 013 9112-0576
    Paula 013 9706-8067
    Alinka 013 9703-2779
    Mayara 013 9775-7155
    Bruna 013 3223-2191
    Kellen 013 3224-2899
    Carla 013 3252-1760
    Liliane 013 3252-3822
    Joyce 013 9136-5253

remember, any phone that starts with a 9 (after the 013 area code) is a cell phone, 3 is a normal phone. Also worth calling, "Espanhola" (Spanish Girl - a nick, no name), very good, has her own apartment near the port (except it's pretty ratty, you may want to convince her to go to a motel), phone (13) 9117.3271.

As for beaches, Santos beaches suck in all aspects, for locals only. Paulistas on a day trip to the beach go to Guaruja, right across the bay from Santos. It's an hour drive (through swamps and jungle) to get there by car, but there is a launch (whaleboat) leaving from the Casa do Cafe in the middle of the port every 15 minutes or so. The beaches there are very much like Copacabana/Ipanema, but no pros. If it's a weekend or holiday, Guaruja will be packed. If you do decide to hop across the bay anyhow for the "scenery", you can call Bia at 013 9138-2427, her apartment is behind Tamboré beach, the second beach heading east. Don't go to Sao Vincente or Praia Grande (the other nearby beach towns), they're basically a Brazilian version of Brighton-by-the-Sea...yech!

All in all, assuming it's open at the time of day you are visiting, I'd go with Aeroporto 147, it's known to have a good selection.

    Enjoy!

Again, Max is right... if you are there in the summer, Camboriu is %1000 better than Joinville. Dunno about which clubs are better in Camboriu, it's been 12 years since I've been there... However, here's some links to get you started:

    Clubs:

    http://www.camboriu-sc.com.br/lazer/casasnoturnas/casasnoturnas.html

    Strip Clubs:

    http://www.camboriu-sc.com.br/lazer/casasnoturnas/showsprivate.html

Dunno about "Pink Painter" ;-) And I can assure you that "Soltando a Franga" is a gay club!

    Lastly:

    http://www.mundovip.net/festa1.html

This is link is a page that belongs to a society column photographer, click on any of the links that say "Baln. Camboriu" and it takes you to a page of pices from various nightclubs in the city. That will give you an idea of what to expect (and maybe the names of clubs that aren't mentioned in my first link).

As alwyas, your best bet is to ask around once you get to Brazil. Make friends with your cabbie. If I were you... famous last words... I'd walk off my boat into the first bar I see, order a beer and make firends with the bartender. Then I'd ask him where the best blubs are that night, Joinville or Camboriu.. then I'd ask him if he's got someone he'd reccomend to drive me there.... etc., etc. Needless to say, get a protuguese-english phrasebook and study it a bit before you go onshore!

    Have a great time...

    octatron,

If you stays here in the period from November to February I would defenetly recommend Camburiu as the place to go. I dont know the names but they have a number of big disco's not far from BR101, on the exit s to Camburiu.

    Thanks Max and Tomb

So would you say that Balneario Camburiu is far better than Joinville?

Do you know of any discos with Amateurs/non pros in Balneario Camburiu?

    Thanks again.

    Octatron and Max;

Just confirming what Max said. Yeah Camburiu definitely has good nightlife... in the summer, and I didn't know that 101 was so much improved, making the trip that quick. For what it's worth, Camburiu also has a "official" nude beach (Pinho) - official means that there is a police officer there who makes sure that you take off your clothes!

    Cheers,

    Hi Again

    Just remembered one thing :

Balneario Camburiu, is around 45 minutes from S F do Sul (South on BR101), they have a good night life down there, especially in the brasilian summer.

BR101 is in both north (Curitiba) and South (Floripa) quite safe, lots of improvements has been done the last years.

    Hi Octatron

Joinville is 30 minutes by car from Sao F do Sul. Joinville is not like Curitiba, but defenetly better than S.F.doSul. I normally visit two places when I visit Joinville :

    1) Sexy, also known as Solar (previus name, but same place)
    2) 'Marlene's' place, cant remember the real name but every body knows the place.

The level at Sexy is better, however also the most expensive (but still cheaper than Curitiba)

    Thanks, Tomb

I wish Curtiba was a little closer, as two hours one way, is to much. So I guess I'll just hope that Joinville will have some action. Even though I can't find a darn thing about opportunities on the net. I guess I'll just have to wait and wing it. Of course I'll be sure to update future Sao Francisco Do Sul travelers.

Ahnnnn.... I knew there had to be a reasonable explanation for your going to S. Fsco. The town itself is small, pop. 30,000, so the pickings are going to be slim. However, Joinville is just across the inlet, and it's a reasonable-sized (300,000) industrial city, so it's bound to have some clubs, especially since it's the only city in the area of any size. It should be about 20-30 minutes by cab. If you are going in the Brazilian summer (December-March), you can try crossing to Parana State and going to Guaratuba (about an hour away, but ask around first). It's the local beach resort for the Curitiba upper-class, and it's bound to have good Saturday-night clubbing. And, depending how long your "overnight" is, and what you can negotiate with a local cabbie, you may want to try going up to Curitiba, it's about a 2 hour trip... of course, all you need is some fog or a bad traffic accident on your way back and you miss your ship...

As for standing out, this is one of the most European regions of Brazil, so if you keep your mouth shut, you won't look like a gringo. I'm assuming you are white, American-looking. If you are black, asian, native american, martian, etc, you WILL stand out in this part of Brazil - but there is no racism to worry about, at least not the American sort of racism. Anyway, people are very hospitable in this whole region, and will be happy to meet someone who has come from far away... this is not exactly a tourist mecca!

    Enjoy...

    Thanks Tomb

Well I work on a ship, and we will be overnighting there. A Saturday night no less. At least on the map it looks too far to travel to any of the other bigger Santa Catarina cities. Would you recommend just staying there, or is there something better one hour away? I’m into the disco/bar Amateurs/Non Pro seen. I have a feeling a gringo will stick out more here than in SP Salvador, or Rio.

Thanks again, and oh yes thanks for your guide.

Sao Fo do Sul is a port town in Santa Catarina, between Florianopolis and Curitiba. It has a cool naval museum, the beaches are lousy, it's near Blumenau/Itajai, and that's about it. I never sampled the local "scene", but I suppose that it's the usual run of local girls, mostly doing business with sailors and local businessmen. In other words, you're better off going up the serra to Curitiba or down the coast to Floripa, in my opinion.

Do you have a particular *desire* to go to S.F. do Sul, or are you being sent there as punishment?

Heya Nibu -- I haven't been reading this site as often as I'm about a year away from my next trip. Sigh.

I travelled via bus from C. Del Este (Paragua) to Foz (Brasil) in the middle evening (about 11pm a night). Security was non-existant. They didn't even make make us disembark. As I was sleepy, I fogot that I needed an entry stamp (for Brasil) or I might get stung at the Rio airport when I flew out.

Soooo, about 2 days later I went to the Argentina-Brasil border and had my passport stamped there. The border agent didn't even care. I thought it'd be a hassle.

The border between C. Del Este and Foz is a dirty little bridge with a lot of peddlers and commotion. It'd be VERY easy to pass back and forth on it.

This info's about a year old, but I think it's still good. I can promise that whatever the position the Brasilian national consulate has on fees and border crossings, I doubt very much these country cops know anything about it.

I hope this helps (and is still correct).

    Happy Travels,
    JWadd
