1 - The traveller that basically can't be bothered to search, looking for a quick fix.

2 - The searchers and majority of posters who supply group 1 with the info (would that group one searched before asking) and get together to hunt in packs.

3 - Those of us that are here for the long term and appreciate finding places and or info and sharing it with such members who show respect (such as David) say through the "pm me" mode.

All David is asking for is to keep the XX Pub alive and in order to do that, reduce the discussion on this board. I was one of the guys that heard the plea from mamasan saying that Authorities had been banging on their doors recently.

No point fighting on this board if the place is gone. Save the strenght in writting for mongering.

I do agree that some places should be held discreet. I am in favor of requesting a PM. I do a lot of travel and visit this forum a lot. It has given me some great tips on places in Mexico, Turkey, Czech Republic, Italy and others. Most of travels require me to be gone internationally about a week or less.

I also admit, I don't post a lot. I am seldom in a location that allows me to discover areas other than those already reported on.

I have never mongered in Shanghai so this trip will be an experience. I have traveled to Beijing frequently as well as Dongying, Baotou, Tianjin, and a few others I can't pronounce much less spell. However, the Mam^H^H^HBartender (a sweet older lady) has become worried about the visibility of this fine establishment, and has expressed to some who are locals and regulars on this forum that she is concerned that the forum will bring unwanted attention to her fine special gir^H^H^Hdrinks.

She has asked that we refrain from posting further information, and in fact asked us to post false or negative information. There have been some attempts to honor her wishes, but frankly I think that goes against the spirit of this forum, and it is just impossible to herd together all who visit this fine establishment for a drink, and keep them from remarking on how delicious these drinks can be.

So without consultation with the rest of the locals and regulars, I think it best to just agree as a group to refrain from posting on this fine establishment in the forum. Do you think we could all agree to that?

I really hope this note isn't considered a breach of trust between AG, PIT, AP, and me. If so guys, PM me and I will delete this note completely. I just think this is better than overt deceit of our fellow members.

I would be happy to provide information on this place to any senior member whose prior posts confirm they have actually spent time around Shanghai (ie, they've posted credible reviews about Shanghai rather than just asking for info). But frankly, there is already enough information in the forum to aid a would be visitor, so those questions should be few I would hope.

I would also like to applaud those who tried to actively respect the wishes of the Mama^H^H^H^HBartender through deceptive posts. Their hearts are in the right place. Please do not hold it against them. They are trying to preserve a venerable establishment beloved by the group.

How can you guys be so narrow minded, selfish and lacking in any considersation or understanding of a "persons" personal request ? I have no idea about this bar you guys are talking about. I do however disagree that it should be kept quiet in order to comply with the owners wishes. .............. The whole basis of this forum is to share information contrary to what other people want and that includes the service workers, the establishment owners, law enforcement, governments, and just about everybody else who wants to keep mongering on the down low. We share information with others so that they in turn will share information with us. We don't NOT share information simply because someone doesn't want us to, because for certain, there is always someone out there who doesn't want us to.

Although I have only personally met one fellow monger from this board, my sense is the IQ level is quite high here and we can usually distinguish between accurate vs bias reporting - be it positive or negative. No knock on David or his suggestion but free press should prevail, right?
