Not true, Surfer.

I arrived on Thursday, 3/16 in MDE on the direct flight from JFK. There was no frisking, of anyone. Of nobody. Nowhere in the terminal. They didn't even check my luggage.

So where do you get this stuff about 'they frisk everybody arriving on international flights'?

We could debate this over and over, but to protect the membership and lurkers out there, I'm gonna fast forward and get to the heart of the problem:

in Medellin they frisk everybody arriving on international flights and they seem to check more bags than in Cali or Bogota (I have arrived at all 3). In Bogota, I have always breezed right through.

IMHO Tom is correct about Cali being the "poor sister". Medellin & Cartagena are much better for visiting mongers.

Re semana santa, I have always heard many chicas are with their families during semana santa and that it is a lousy time to go. I KNOW rooms and flights are at a premium, so I have always avoided it. I am still debating whether to go right before, or right after. I did go to the PI once during Holy Week (as they call it) and it was HORRIBLE!

I live in Cartagena and will be in Medellin from 4/7 to 4/17 to avoid the crush in CTG. Thursday through Easter Sunday are holidays. Nothing related to tourism and partying are closed in CTG the entire time.

My novia in MDE tells me that there are many people visiting the MDE area during the holidays. I don't expect any clubs or bars to be closed.

Cali, in my opinion, is a poor sister. It is more dangerous mostly because of higher unemployment. Many people may well leave there for the holiday.

Going down "again" apr 19th-27th to do "little mongering" but i as well have an amazing novia, i puposely avoided apr 8th - 15th because it is la "sermana santa" and i heard alot of things "clubs & bars" are closed and Cali is very SLOW, i hope im not bursting your bubble for that little tidbit of info., If you wanna meeet for a "Aquilar or Costena" same offer goes to you Riker, if you wanna take the "Novias" out one night.. peace Mongers!

I'm going to be in Cali from April 6 to April 22. It will be my first time there, but I've been to Medellin and Cartagena, as well as Cuba (muchas veces!) Anybody want to have beer and chase some chicas let me know.

I found http://abstravel.com had tickets on Copa from LAX for $575.00 they go direct to Panama then to Medellin. I picked tht for several reasons:

1. I was told its a pain to go through customs in Bogata & to advoid if possible.

2. I did not want any long layovers the one in Panama is an hour & a half.

3. The flight leaves at 12:15am from LAX & with enough Ambein I can sleep the flight away. lol

4. I will get into Medellin at 12:30pm and gives me plenty of mongering time left for that day.

5. They were the only ones who offered a 4:30pm flight out ll the others it was 8:15am which means I would have to get up at 4:00am to be able to have enough time to catch it. It also gives me a half a day of mongering before I have to leave.
There are others but those are the main reasons.

I am set to arrive on the 24th of March but will probably be crashing since I will be working hard for a few days prior while in Panama.

After that is all about partying from the 25th to the 3rd.
