    raining season

    Hi Erik,
do not worry, it is really only a few hours a day.
And changing against Phuket: there it is quite different.
If you want nice beach, relaxed places, not pushy girls: go to Samui,
If you want more noise, more push, but better choice for mongering: go Phuket.
Depending on how often you want to change the girl Samui can be troube as everybody knows you after a few days. But if you are not shy about it nobody cares as well.
    Good fun,
    Mike

    Trip to Ko Samui

After landing on the island of Ko Samui we were welcomed by a real heavy rain. The airport buildings of Ko Samui look like Bamboo huts on the beach. But fortunately the roofs were waterproofed. After picking up our luggage we bought tickets 200 Baht each person for a minibus, who brought us to the region of the Lamai Beach. Every region has their own bus, so it took only about 20 minutes and then we were in our hotel. During the transport I had a high respect for the bus driver, because the streets were here and there totally a washed and I couldn’t see any street.

I had booked already from Germany a little bungalow on the hotel area for my Thai lady, her 4 year old daughter and me. Too early, as I found out. Because I did it already at the end of month April. And at the beginning of Month May they offered: Stay 4 nights, pay 2 nights, stay 8 nights, pay 4 nights. But doesn’t matter. Was my fault. Next time I will do it short time before going to Samui, at the same time when I will book the flight again.

The hotel was great. Good service at all. The restaurant prepared good Thai food too. Nevertheless we went every evening with our little lady to a restaurant with the name “ Sala Thai “. They cooked excellent Thai and also farang food.

The whole ambience of this little hotel was nice, as you can see on the photos. The bungalows, the pools, the plants. All made in Thai style. The accouterment of the bungalow was comfortable, including the electronic safe in the room.

The bar scene at that time was really down, because there were not too many male single tourists. Mostly couples and couples with children. If I would get the permission from my Thai lady to go alone for one week to Samui, I would do that in the low season. Well, it must be allowed to have a dream. :--)))))).

Over the days we rent two scooter for about 150 Baht each a day. Easy riding with those things. And because the island isn’t too large, you can visit every interesting point in some days. The good hotels have usually a lot of costless material like maps for the tourists.

Finally I can say that Ko Samui is worth to be visited. You can relax as well as stroll through the scene, if you want. Everything is available. Same like Bangkok or Pattaya, only a little bit easier going and without any hectic rush.

Gentlemen, enjoy your life. You only have this one.

    Lunatic Pig Drivers

    Seydlitz,

I don't know what you expect from the way people drive here which I don't have major problems with. It is lunacy if you don't understand how things work which is basically controlled chaos. Samui's main road is very small and it has outgrown the number of cars/motor-bikes. I enjoy the thrill of driving here...

I finally saw cops on the island.

    Girlie is doing fine...

Thai police is around, and the drug trade is very well monitored. They allow a little local business to go undisturbed, but if and when anything bigger happens, they will jump on it. "Little" Thais are most likely to get hit (I have heard of quite a few), and the sentence can be rather harsh on them. Reasonable Farang tourist drug habits are tolerated, and Farang residents, especially those with a business there, can get their way too with no hassle at all. They know how much they can afford to do in that area. It might just cost them a little occasional bribe money to their friendly Police force.

Thailand is friendly and easygoing, but everything is always in place for a crackdown at anytime.

Odds are that you are getting used to it, which is the most dangerous point. Local Thais and Farangs alike in Samui are driving like lunatic pigs. And the roads are not safe either as they are not so well maintained, especially the secondary network. There are several hundreds accidents, many with very serious injuries, every year, and the trend is increasing. Just ask informed residents. The permanent population of the island has increased manifolds in the last 5 years, with the obvious consequence on the traffic. Vacationing Farangs do not go out much, and most do not drive. But residents do, if only to resupply at Tesco. And there is the traffic generated by the massive real estate boom, with big trucks everywhere.

The best thing to do is to bring a nice TG from BKK with you. It is a gamble if you do not know her well enough, as there is a big difference between having a great LT encounter with a TG, even repeated a few nights in a row, and spending a week or two of quasi-marital intimacy with her. And there is the cost of flying her over with you. But on the whole, it is a great vacation in which you bring your pillow with you.

Drugs on the Beach and More

So you are laying down on the beach and here comes the guy selling something and when you say "no thanks" they try to start a conversation which usually leads to selling you drugs.

I have been offered all types and quantities. I really don't look like a drug addict and it makes me wonder if these guys are for real or could they be a set up operation to catch farangs. I don't think it is and undercover thing but I would not advice any one to buy off the beach unless you get to know the seller and even then... I don't do drugs.

Sometimes when you walk on the beach you smell weed and it usually comes from a group of Thai guys renting jet skies. Those guys are so tanned from being on the sun 7 days a week that probably need to smoke something...

I have not seen any Thai police on Samui yet. I have also noticed that Thais are getting better at driving here or maybe I'm just getting use to it. Traffic can be a mess at night and so far I have seen only one motorbike accident with 2 Thai girls who hit the back of a truck. No one got hurt. Seriously.

A good place to have a drink on the beach is the Ark Bar with good sitting and atmosphere. You pay for drinks as you order them so there is no confusion with the bill. I like this system. I also saw this happen on a gogo bar here and one in BKK. Is it the norm everywhere now?

The bar scene here is OK and there are a few discos/clubs with freelancers. Some are nice looking. Also many beer bars (not as many as Pattaya) with some nice looking girls too. I asked in one beer bar how much was the bar fine and was told it was 200bt. Cheap.

Early flights to Samui (6AM) are cheaper and you can save a bit. Also flying out of Samui at 10 PM is cheaper. Other options are the bus and train but they take all night to get here.

Samui may not be for everyone but if you are looking to just relax and maybe have some girls here and there it would work. The whole point of coming here is to chill and not do much.

So far little rain in here and its rainy season.

    Flights to Samui

Its rather expensive to fly to Samui, but if you book on the website bangkokair.com, and you dont mind getting up early the first flight of the day both ways can be booked for about 2000 bath plus taxes.

    Samui Test

Although some of the charm is gone from this island it grows on you the daily slow pace... There is so much to do here without doing much. The girl scene is mediocre but decent if you must have some. There are a few goodlookers here and there and my best are the girls on motorbike flirting...

    Gogo Drama

I'm being a good boy since I brought the girlie with me. Last night we went to gogo bar. She stared at the girls dance a declare none were sexy except for 2 of out of 45 girls. She asked me which she thought were sexy. I nailed both of them and she was happy to know we had the same taste. So, I got a little excited at the prospect of having 2 girls in my room. Wrong. That was a clever set up to see how I would react and to find out if I was a butterfly. She suggested I buy a lady drink to one of the girls and I did. Then when I was touching the girl I was told that if I took her home (room) I would never see her again. What a nice set up to get me worked up. Testing my good boy character... Of course I played it cool and pretended not to be too disappointed. Smart woman. Stupid Farang.

With any other girl I would have demanded it but I'm dating girlie so can't.

    Flights

I'm not sure 4,000 baht for the round trip is so bad. I've tried the overland journey twice and it was worst than terrible. The lack of low cost airlines in Thailand is obviously an issue but the alternative of 14 hours overland is not one I'm prepared to tolerate anymore. I thought it was an absolute nightmare.

Fast Eddie, what was the price for the suri thani? That might to a good idea.

I think it is a big monopoly for bangkok air to charge so much because they
can they own the airport and no other air can land there , options is fly with
thai airway to suri thani and take the fast boat to koh samui take about 4hr
total or bus from bangkok to suri thani and fast boat 14 hr total if you have
    the time .
