I have done a lot of internet research for hotel health (hoteru herusu or in short hoteheru) in Osaka. The result was a print-out of several pages with names, prices, office hours, maps and discount coupons. I knew most of them might be off-limits for foreigners but at least one, Club Coco in Namba, had been described as gaijin-friendly on this board.

On a Saturday morning I started my tour in Umeda. From JR Osaka Stn. I followed the directions for Hanshin Railway Umeda Stn. and continued my way eastward through the Whity underground shopping mall to exit M14. The red light district is located to the south-east of this exit.

My first try was Freajia, a hoteheru with married women (hitoduma) and very low prices. The coupon gives you a 60 min course for as less as 7,900 Yen; even inclusive the hotel room charge.

Using the map from the homepage I found the place (Diamond Building) easily. Freajia is located on the fourth floor. In the same building there is another hoteheru, Umeda Dress (http://www.d-ress.net/top.html) on B1F. I don't know whether this place admits foreigners.

I entered Freajia and asked my standard question: "Gaikokujin demo ii desu ka?" The staffer hesitated a bit, let me confirm that I speak Japanese and went to the adjacent room, apparently to ask the girls. Their answer must have been in the affirmative, because he admitted me then. I was really surprised that my first try turned out to be a hit.

Next he showed me the menu. I read about a 60 min special for only 7,900 Yen, far below the rates on the homepage. In other words, I did not need the discount coupon at all. I agreed to pay 1,000 Yen more for a choice of the girl from a picture list. Maybe I could have saved this option because I was advised then that only one girl was available right away. She looked nice on the pic, so I took her. In reality, she was a bit chubbier than the pic suggested, though.

This is Umeda. Move the map west and you'll see the stations and you'll have a good idea how to get there.

You'll notice a pink area on the road, this is the Whity Umeda underground shopping mall.

Look for the Sunkus and you'll see some very small pink bars which are the exits from the underground mall. To the north of the Sunkus there are two more exits. The exits facing south and both sides of the road are a hang out for street walkers. The exits facing SOUTH on both sides. Sometimes you can see a woman sitting or standing on the steps. Sometimes they are there and sometimes they aren't. THIS ISN'T FOR NOVICES. There are lots of securty cameras, security guards, pimps, strange men and men seeking the prostitutes. I wouldn't fool around here. If you speak Japanese and know what to look for you can find something, if you are lucky. If you don't speak Japanese, are drunk then stay away. You can find a lot of trouble if you screw up.

Look at the map again and you can see an M (Mos Burger, it is gone and there is a Sunkus there now), A D (Daily store a Family Mart. This is an area full of various sex entertainment shops. Near the H you can almost always find a pimp for some non-Japanese.

This is another spot in Umeda.

Across the street from the 7-11 you can see a 17. Head for that and then walk south to the raod with the < arrows. walk up that and you'll find a group of massage shops on the RIGHT.

The left side of the road has some cafes and shops that cater to Osaka's homosexual population. There is also a gay bar near here. This side isn't as busy the one mentioned above and might be worth a look.

This is Nishinakajimaminamikata station. It is two stops from Umeda on the Midosuji line. You can see a Lawson on the left and an H on the right. Walk towards the H. On the small street that says SANKI there are several massage parlors. There are also some in the area marked 14. There are also many hostess clubs, so beware of entrapment late at night.

This is Hanshin Amagasaki station. If you walk to the D (Daily Store) and walk west (using the map arrows as a convenient compass) you'll find a sex shop area. You might have to walk about as far as the Kentury Fried Chicken (but don't turn south that street. Once you locate the sex shop area you'll want to go 1 block north and then walk back towards the Daily store. So D -- to the same street as the KFC---then north 1 block and back.

This is the area around Juso station. The space betweem the McDonalds and the Mos Burger/Family Mart is full of exciting shops. Don't cross the street to the Mos Burger there is nothing on that side of the road.

There are a few shops on the Kentucky Fried Chicken side of the station. At the KFC or Mr Donut turn north (using the map key as a compass and walk up the shopping street there are a few shops towards the end. So you want to walk from the KFC towards the Lawson. But use the shopping street next to the tracks. And don't go to the Lawson there is nothing there. It is just a landmark for direction purposes.

Take the chuo-line (green line) to Kujo. When you get to the station take exit 6. Make sure that you are exiting on the Osaka-dome side. At the bottom of stairs the shopping street will be on your left and the road on your right. Turn and put the road on your left and the shopping street on your left. Now walk towards the large orange hotel sign. Then turn right and start looking for those white signs you see in Tobita. This area is the same, but smaller.

Ah, I think I know where you mean. It's a few blocks south of amemura's triangle park. It's dotobori area, where the canal is and lots of love hotels, yeah? I think the place you're thinking of is a sauna called 'New Osaka'. Has a great sign on the building that says 'say farewell to wealth and Hello to health'. Is that the one? I've also heard that there used to be a soapy there, but that it disappeared with the rest of them.

Just to clear this up, so noboby gets red faced.

The place mentioned above is the NEW Japan sauna. You can get a massage that you can tell your mother about there. Their giant sign says "say farewell to......."

There are two shops called Minami mat health in Shinsaibashi Lupin the 1st and Lupin the 2nd. Follow the directions in my other post on the subject.

There is also another place called Club Rich which also offers mat play.

If you are asian and speak Japanese give it a try.

I know these are there because I went there and looked today.

There still are quite a few pink places in that area, though most are not foreigner friendly. The exceptions are the re-located Cocos and some Chinese este offering FS (both are hotel DH rather than on premises).
