I just must write and tell you guys what happened to me this night:.)

I was out on a business dinner tonight in Old Vic in Ramada Hotel, that is a quite good Hotel for me to have business dinner at due to fact that I’m staying there;.). Anyway, after the dinner we hade some more beers in Old Vic's and then the guys hade to leave home for the families and I was left by my self in the bar:.) I was thinking that should I go to bed or should take one more beer somewhere else in town, I decided to take one more Beer in Roumers the night club in the hotel.

Driving into work this morning, heard this on a news report. While stopped for gas, took the opportunity to read the actual article from the Gulf News. At a full read, not as disturbing as the news report, BUT... Certainly NOT good news either (bold my highlights).

Visit visa runs only twice in a row

A visitor to the UAE will only be allowed to make two visa runs at a stretch after which he/she must leave the country, Ministry of Interior officials said.

A visitor can stay for two months and extend it by another month. If the visitor wishes to stay longer, he/she will have to obtain a new visit visa, exit the country and return. The two-month stay again can be extended by a
month. The visitor will then only be allowed another visa run. The total duration of stay will be nine months.

A ministry official said after the two runs, the person must leave the country for a full month and then return if he/she wishes.

In another decision, companies will not be allowed to sponsor Filipinas under the age of 25. They have to be sponsored by their blood relatives if they wish to enter the UAE on a visit visa, but will not be allowed to work if they are under 25.

Bit of déjà vu from early 2003: a similiar announcement about ending "infinite" renewals of visitor visas. Back then, MY bar was the Cyclone. A number of long term familiar faces left. These were successful wg's who could afford their own (sublet) apartments (no refund of the unused portion of the quarterly rent), furnished as a home (carpetbagger neighbors taking care of the furniture). They had never tried for the resident visa given the large wad of cash required, instead applying a couple nights' work receipts each month for the monthly visa run. With those new rules, a number went home, never to return, perhaps enough cash in the bank, perhaps not.

So, IF these new rules are applied as stated, a girl can stay at most 9 months before having to return home for a month. Thing is, as everything here, the rules can be interpreted as the official wants, so "earlier" renewal denials MAY happen. And what about a girl who does take the enforced vacation for a month? Will another 9 months be tolerated for someone with no discernable source of income?

So that fav who you've enjoyed for a LONG time... perhaps her next attempt at a visa run will be a return home, she already over the threshold.

And perhaps, for some, more incentive to overstay. I'd expect more visa status checks outside bars. And a bar where too many overstayers are found? That's a business that causes the authorities trouble, and we all know what happens then...

Is the sky falling? No, but it's NOT blue sky either. Uncertainty in a wg's career length translates to even more upward pressure on prices. She'll want to repay the debt to get here, her daily overhead, and start building that profit even more quickly.

it was nicely brought to my attention that some might not enjoy hitting a bar alone. being basically unsociable myself, it never bothers me. but even if it can be a bit intimidating, it is certainly less so than having some unknown knocking at your door, or you on hers. much better the neutrality of the bar where you can size up the climate and her reaction to you before making your choice. i'd say the gfe comes down to individual chemistry. and there is always the plausible denialability of visiting a bar ("was thirsty") rather than waiting for an elevator for an apt with other building tenants ("we know where you're going").

i also believe flying solo has advantages. the prerequisite is that you do your homework by reading the forum (minimum the reports of distinction):

• find out the bars that are frequented by the nationalities you find attractive.
  
• find out which hotel the bar is located in (only bar that readily comes to mind that is not in a hotel is the now-closed cyclone).
  
• find out where in the hotel the bar is located; many hotels have more than 1 (for my 1st several visits to imperial, i wondered what the hype was about: a small bar, band crammed into 1 corner, few wg's. only after several disappointing visits did i realize i was in the bar to the right of the hotel lobby, rather than the main bar to the left of the lobby).
  
• some reports will even describe the layout of the bar (cyclone's well known demarcation line). careful reading will give you an idea of what you will see. and walking in, no one will be paying that much attention to you (except for the staff, eager to get you an overpriced drink. or cyclone early, pre-10pm: 20 pairs of chinese eyes trained on you, sizing up your wallet...)
  
• know the price range. each bar, and nationality within the bar, will fall within a general range. she might be outside it, but even then, you will have the info to make a decision. from my own experience (lower end), and reading reports here, my estimates for dxb are: 200-500 st, 500-1500 lt (lower than 500 possible, depending on market indicators, e.g., buyer/seller ratio). but while the 300 lt might be found, not readily these days... 500 to 800 more the norm.
  
• be aware of the scams, and be aware the differences between an outright scam (say pay before, then lt becomes st), and misunderstandings (you never specified it was to be a bbbj...). my experience: very few out-and-out scams. did have to laugh when the 'snake girl from 2 months back that insisted on pay before, then so "nice" that she didn't want to make me sick with her cold so had to leave early; same girl grabbed my arm with a big smile on friday night (while this previous customer might not have registered with her, she did with me... or maybe i did register with her...).
  
• don't expect her to be a bank and have change. it's like a bus - correct change only.
  
• you will pay too much (initially, and on occasion, subsequently), and there will be gaps in services desired and services rendered. bbut the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy.

now, group or solo? there are some guys who can walk into a bar and, within 30 minutes, know most of the people in there. that is not me. 5 hours later, i won't know anyone. so what? that's not my purpose for being there. my purpose is to find someone i find attractive for some home entertainment.

• group: girls don't like dogpacks. the reason she's very interested in providing some of her friends for your friends is, besides business, safety. some girls who might consider going with a certain nationality solo, won't if more than 1 (last [CodeWord123] i heard about, her colleagues put some of the blame on her; "what did she expect, going with 3 of them by herself...")
  
• group: in a group, there's always mr. indecisive ("i don't know, should i take her, or maybe her, or what about her?" hell, how should i know? it's your dick!) or the mr. never satisfied ("there's nothing here; we'll have to go to another bar". now why, after i already have my "date", do i drag her to another bar with another (now multiple) entrance fee...) and finally mr. disappointed ("you said she was fun; she wasn't with me". no, i said she was fun with me.)

• solo: well, you can leave when you want, without feeling you are leaving a mate "hanging". and if i'm out at a bar to pull, i want to find her, then quickly retire to my place to enjoy her company at that personal level...
  
• both: i think it's a toss up for the number of job interviews between group and solo. group has the pull of previous pulls stopping by to say hi. but nothing earns a sharp rebuke from me quicker than someone, be it waitress or wg, rudely interrupting an on-going conversation... and, the trouble here, my view anyway, is once some of the landing slots are occupied, other nation's girls will not land, fearing to cut in on another wg marketing. if the zone looks prc, the kirgie's will stay away.
  
  for the solo, given he has no group to talk to, girls will come over to say hi, especially given a welcoming smile.

as predator4 pointed out, often it's not that there are too few job interviewees, but too many...

as a good introduction, i'd suggest an afternoon's tgit (astoria hotel, bur dubai, ground floor, catty-corner from lobby), say from 1pm to 3pm. don't expect any real stunners (but you can be surprised), 5's, 6's, and a lot of "who are their customers?", but just a relatively low key intro to a bar scene. banana's pizza, down the road towards the museum, makes a quite nice pizza.

or, try rattlesnake (metropolitian hotel, bur dubai, sheik zayed road), extreme left facing the hotel complex, walk through the patio area to the leftmost door, at midnight. like predator 4 said, so crowded it'll be impossible for you not to have a conversation with the wg next to you...

but that's just me. i don't like guided tours, preferring to buy a guidebook, read it, then carry along at my own pace with my own interests...

a newbie's perspective

an excellent summary from, as stated, a different set of eyes. always welcome!! [comment: rattlesnake's band is philipino...] only missing "main-stream" places were imperial suites, seaview, and tgit (next trip).

anyway i qualified 800dh and spent all my efforts ensuring that included bbbj and not that we were talking lt. helen and i left cyclone and went to her place 200m away where an admittedly first rate bbbj, daty and fs ensued but her almost total lack of english left me stranded when she insisted that the 800 was only for 1 hour and not lt. i'm no [CodeWord126] so wasn't going to force the issue but deep down knew i should have chosen a woman that speaks english. qualify qualify qualify!

actually, for a cyclone girl going back to "her" place, the norm is st, though the 800 would/should be a lt rate (as one of my favs says, "we say an hour, but can do in 45 minutes; 2 hours is 90...". and be aware of some's definition of lt: "until you fall asleep."). they just figure that anyone going back to their place (and they can be decent, if spartan), is only interested in st; otherwise, it would be the punter's hotel/apt.

my suggestion: ask specifically what time she will leave in the morning (as i did friday night at 'snake, saving myself some disappointment).

these days, i ask price, departure time, and, depending on her inherent attractiveness to me, menu. but certainly if menu is important, ask specifics. and if i am in doubt, mention that it will be pay after. if you are known, most girls should accept this. if you are not known, at least you have the info to make the decision of go/no-go if she says, in the bar, pay before. in the bar, you have the advantage. back home (yours or hers), her advantage.

problem (at least for me) is paying the mamasam in advance, the girls are probably not very motivated and i hate giving the money to a 3rrd person (and of course i hate paying in advance). ... as the night goes on more punters arrived, i think mostly for seeing, not so much buying i think. very few white expats, plenty of indian and some arabs. one of tem looking for problems i would say.
