Bez,
My advice is to stay away from this nightmare scenario. The boy will bolt and wants to either work here or just plain stay.
Either way, the Feds can come down hard on you for visa fraud and other lovely charges, including those under RICO and illegal smuggling. It is one thing if you are trying to bring in a close relative or even a close friend where you do know them or may be able to control them to even a small extent. But with complete strangers, just stay away.
Besides, it is easier for the Feds to make examples of small or medium sized business people than the giants. Such cases are cheaper and easier. Why risk far too much for someone you really don't know.
Besides, if you want to take the risk, think and act like a real Russian. Ask him for $50,000, at a minimum, but the more the better. That's how they would and do do it! And besides, it will help defray some legal expenses for you!!

I'm sure when I ask him about that, he'll say, oh don't worry, bla bla bla, but then knowing russians and how they say anything to get what they want, when he actually does come, he'll never do what he agreed to. I aslo believe that the whole reason why he wants to come is to stay and work, since he can't make any good money over there.

2) invite them as a friend
Either way, you have to assume responsibility for whatever shit they do. It is a risk, sure.
Worst case scenario he bolts and is never seen again or is in some kind of legal or health trouble.
Tough call, especially if you are not going to have direct control over him.
I have no experience (knock on wood) of what happens when the shit hits the fan, but do assume that the "take responsibility" part is fo' real. You can probably ask the consulate what the real consequences are if something goes wrong. I'd at least make sure he had health insurance valid in the US and a return flight ticket, enough cash etc.

Hey.
My former perevoichik from 2006, who moved to the big city for a better job this year, and hooked me up with his mom, yes his mom, for all my necessary stuff this year, (someone trustworthy to pick me up at the train station, and a new apartment agent, etc.), is now asking me to invite him to the US.
Here's the catch. He wants me to write him an invite letter that he will give to his american consualte to get a visa, and he wants me to write in the letter that I will guarrantee that I will be 100% resposnsible for all his expenses, and that I will guarrnatee that he will return to russia after his 3 week visit. He's also asking for a complete copy of my passport with all my old visas, etc., and another invite letter on my business's letterhead to make everything look more official, like my work details, that I'm a big shot in business, etc.
I need to mention also that he had a visa before, as a student, so he has been here to the US once, a few years ago. So this will be his first try to return, and to get a visa as a non-student or non-family visitor, with a "friend" inviting him. I think this is the problem, really. If I was his family, it would be very different. But just as a friend, I don't see how this would work.
Now how the heck can I promise that? Especially if he doesn't even come here to the city where I live? Sure I could make some promises, IF he was part of my family, but he isn't. He's only my former translator, and I still need either his help or his mom's help whem I go back there in 2008, so I don't want to [CodeWord140] him off, but what if I write all these guarantees, and he comes here and ends up staying?
Could I get into any problems myself? Like when I have to apply for another toursit visa next year to go back to russia, could they turn me down because Sasha fucked me up on his visit here?

Anybody out there in ISG-land been to Kaliningrad recently?
I'll be staying at Hotel Kaliningrad and wondering what the pro situation is like in that hotel. Am looking for lobby/bar girls since I'll be on business and won't have much opportunity to carouse.
Any info on location, price and service level?

Have been traveling to Ufa many times during this year. The scene for girls is quite good, but of course basic knowledge of Russian is often needed.
When talking about freebies, the girls who speak English are normally more "difficult" to lure. However, the meaning of "difficult" is quite different in regional cities compared to Moscow.
The scene for prostitutes is quite good also. But again, without the basic knowledge of Russian one might have some difficulties in finding them. Of course the bigger hotels have girls in their lobby bars, but these girls are not too beautiful and over-priced. The local newspapers have loads of ads for girls and saunas. The prices range for these girls range from 800-1500 RBL/hour. The quality varies quite much, but you can also find real diamonds among these girls.
Then there are a couple of striptease clubs too. These clubs have rooms where you can take the girls. The prices are 2500RBL/hour and the quality of the girls is normally quite high. However, normally none of them speak English but then again I think you dont need too many words in places like this to have a good time.
Further info I can give you in PM.

Stayed in Saratov recently for 2 nights. Hotel Slovakia, right on the Volga river. The small bar is full of girls, they also hang out in the lobby. The quality is from 5-7, but most girls are under 25. Going rate 1500rub/hour. I picked one hot law student - Vera, 19. Unfortunatelly, she was as exciting as a wood. She already has a 5 yr old daughter, and I guess it's hard to study law, raise a daughter and fuck all night long. The other girls are not pushy at all, unlike some Moscow hotels. Second night I asked for a line-up. A dozen girls were brought up to my room by mamochka. It was quite a show. The guys from rooms next doors got out to take a look too. It was funny. I picked Vera again, just because I liked her body. I thought she would warm up to me the 2nd night, but it didn't happen. My mistake. She's a tough pro, even though she's only 19.
Went out to the center of the city - plenty of lonely girls walking around. Easy catch if you speak Russian. We just didn't have much time.
