Oh yes, that's another thing I don't quite get. Trophy photo taking. And with regard to those gawky-faced, pale-skinned students...

I was actually not referring to 'good girls'. These are out of reach for most tourists anyway. What I don't get is that Thailand visitors don’t take advantage of the ample supply of good looking P4P pros. In my favorite massage joints I do see and take advantage off cute little spinners, and by tipping them well, I get rewarded with great ass and sex.

Most pics I see on the photo thread represent truly the low scope of what Thailand has to offer. I think that a lot of tourists - naturally – practicing what works for them best at home, aiming for the low end serves as a tested means to avoid rejection.

It's like the little fat things in a-go-gos, dancing in the back where the lights don't shine. Fact is they get taken out the most. Why? Most tourists simply feel insecure by the intimidating demeanor of the stunners. Go to any embassy and you will see the most horrible looking country girls (short, big feet, sun burned faces and worst of all, without any language skills) getting married/exported to perfectly normal looking westerners.

Well....those gawky-faced, pale-skinned students and suited workers I see on the Skytrain and in the shopping malls do nothing for me. Maybe you two should post some pictures, including faces (no excuses as to why you can't - either put up or shut up) of girls the rest of us can reasonably expect to fuck in Thailand. Tansak - I don't think we disagree. Sure, some guys want a 500 Baht girl and a 3 Dollar room (right, Pea Beau? ). When I was a young backpacker I only stayed at 5-10 dollar rooms around the world, and had fun with free backpacker girls (those frustrated wild Swedish girls away from home were my favorite). But times change. As a middle aged guy with a busy profession and a family (like most guys on this site), I prefer to spend a little more cash for a taste of the good life.

That we agree on fully. I remember many benches I slept on and in airports to save some cash. And yes, now in life I pay for comfort and higher things in life. Just that I think there are many readers who are cheap charlies or can't affoard such things yet.... It's not a place they would enjoy and I don't think the Lodge markets to that end either. You will pay more at JW or others, and all boutique hotels are much more enjoyable for ME then the hotel chains. Like a home away from home.

Nice report Archie. I agree that the Lodge exceeds expectations. I disagree that the Lodge 'is not cheap'. By Thai standards, it's mid-range, but it's certainly not expensive; by western standards, it's extremely inexpensive.

You're correct - the food and ambience are great, and Guido and Giotto are the perfect hosts - both are colorful characters in their own smooth quiet way.

Some folks are into the cheapest available (if that is due to their income or whatever it doesn't matter) as that is what they can affoard or are willing to pay. Livingstones is not a short time hotel or a flea bag hotel. You get what you pay for and I personally enjoy livingstones. But some folks want to pay the 30 USD a night for a room. And that is not the Livingstones type of client. My dinner bills are higher then that at Livingstones.

The lodge is anything but sterile and everything ArchieLeach says I think hits it just right. Giotto and Guido are friendly and outgoing and are always there for a drink or to chat to help. I enjoy spending time there and while I personally find the prices more then acceptable, very reasonable, and such, some folks who monger would not.

I've obviously stayed at the Lodge and everytime I am in BKK even if I am not staying there I eat there without a doubt. I enjoy the place, the company and the food and I guarantee you I will be there many times Nov 9th thru the 20th.

It's become obvious from staying here that the place is not intended to appeal to cheap charlies. It's not cheap. The sports bar isn't cheap and the hotel and food aren't cheap. But having said that, I'm actually still convinved that it represents a good value. The hotel isn't shiney new granite and glass, but the things that matter are delivered quite well. The sports bar isn't cheap but the company is definitely worth the investment in my opinion. I'm far more comfortable here than the whole Nana scene. I guess that's the difference. If you're a backpacker looking for cheap digs and cheap women, don't bother. You won't like the prices. But if you're looking for something nicer than that, while still not being the sterile environment of chain hotels, then this is the place for you.

From your experience, what are the chances of extras?

I am also considering Pegasus, but it may be too late. How late can one go to Pegasus & still have a good selection?
