Life In The Surigao Province -spamhog's Reports

Thanks Mahku. That's an excellent four-part report by SpamHog. It starts 24th November 2006 in the Living in the Philippines Section under the title of "Bungle in the Jungle". It's a great insight into life in small rural villages, the poverty, the community spirit and how young females fall prey to the Manila barrens and the nanny agencies which can lead to entrapment in the Japanese (and other) prostitution networks.

I think flights go from Manila and Cebu to either Tandag and/or Bislig. But these routes are never very stable. They come and go, so check with the airlines for the latest. I'm not sure how long a bus ride would take, but you can pretty much count on it taking most of the daylight hours if you start in the morning.

Although you didn't say you were going to Bislig, it should also be mentioned that Bislig, Mangagoy and that area is notorious for internet scammers. This has never bothered me when I'm just playing around, but if you have any thoughts of a deep relationship it pays to be wary. I HAVE met some absolute sweethearts from Bislig, so as long as you proceed with caution it's good hunting ground.

You are not thinking of Surigao del Norte, with its capital of Surigao City with a population of about 140,000?

I’ve traveled by bus from Davao to Cagayan (about 7 hours air-conditioned), 4 stops), and around the coast from Cagayan to Butuan (with a diversion to Camiguin Island) and onto Surigao City (about another 7 hours bus travel) where I had a couple of nights. But it probably is a lot faster to go from Davao direct to Butuan or Surigao City through the Augusan del Sur.

There is an overnight Yellow (or is it Batchelor?) Bus Lines service from Davao to both Tacloban and Ormoc in Leyte including a ferry crossing across the Surigao Strait. I caught this Ormoc bus at 4am in the morning from Surigao City after it had arrived from Davao, traveling through the night. I would not be too keen for overnight travel through Mindanao.

Regarding internet facilities, internet “cafes” (you will be lucky if you can get a coffee or even a Sprite in many) are everywhere, including the smallest of towns. There’s a big market demand for internet access from young females with dreams of a foreign attachment; and a demand from young males wanting to play computer games. Jumping laterally here, many females say they “don’t play games” but it does not take much chat time to find where the boundaries are.

Thanks, more specifically: Cantilan, Surigao del Sur and Lianga, Surigao del Sur, Abra

Can you fly to this area from Davao or Cebu?

    Thanks again,

    Correction:

I walked for an hour or so until I got tired and took a jeepney the rest of the way. :-)

Some more about massage in Davao

    hi again.

i had several very nice massages in plaza roman. i frequently get massage where i live to release tension (medical only by trained staff in various treatment centers), and a majority of the ones i got at plaza was either as good or sometimes better. i hang out also in the hotel and went to samal with one of the girls at plaza, and she told me that they have seminars covering the topic. so yes, in my opinion it is worth 400 piso. and the fact that she will rub her pussy on your leg adds to the fun. :-) 2000 piso for sex at the plaza can for sure be negotiated down. and you can argue yourself down to less than 1000 for a blow job with condom if you'r running low on cash. i also walked back from roman plaze to town and in my opinion this was perfectly safe. davao is very safe - it's a fact that i have chalenged several times without any troble so far.

in addition you can ask the guys at the hotel for massage. las casitas have a associated massage parlor that charge you 500 piso for just the massage.

galleria will arrange for massage both with and without happy ending. the woman performing the non sexual service is said to be very skilled and trained in some special therapeutic technique.

    good luck!

If me , I would fly from Cebu to Surigao city and either wait there for folks , if any , to come and visit me , or else , bus it south to del Sur. I presume your going to del Sur to meet someone. Bus info from Surigao City Tourist Office , opposite City Hall.

That seems to be a much shorter and quicker trip than bus from Davao City north to del Sur. LP says Asian Spirit flies from Cebu to Surigao city del Norte four times a week. There are boats from Cebu to Surigao city , eg , Sulpicio Lines , about three times a week too.

LP doesn't seem to give any info on del Sur. Only info on del Norte.

Internet is everywhere in the Philippines. In respect of Surigao city , LP mentions Computronics on Borromeo St , below Leomondee's Hotel , also Cyberstop on Magallenes St.
Thanks! that is a big help and brought up something that I forgot to do and that is buy a copy of Lonely Planet! Have a nice holiday season!

Surigao del Sur - Lonely Planet

Personally , I am not qualified to help you on this one. I stick to Christian dominated Davao City. Only info I have to offer is from my copy of Lonely Planet , as follows :

From Davao City north to Surigao city del Norte its an 8 hour bus ride. I dont know if they stop at any spots in del Sur along the way. Tourist Office at Davao City Hall should be able to tell you where the relevant bus company/terminal is , in Davao. An 8 hour bus ride in the provinces of the Philippines would be an arduous affair.

If me , I would fly from Cebu to Surigao city and either wait there for folks , if any , to come and visit me , or else , bus it south to del Sur. I presume your going to del Sur to meet someone. Bus info from Surigao City Tourist Office , opposite City Hall. Info on the region and therefore del Sur : "Department of Tourism , Rizal Street , Surigao , next to city grandstand" , says LP.

Going on the map in LP , a bus from Surigao city south seems to be a much shorter and quicker trip than bus from Davao City north to del Sur. LP says Asian Spirit flies from Cebu to Surigao city del Norte four times a week. There are boats from Cebu to Surigao city , eg , Sulpicio Lines , about three times a week too.

    Plaza Roman is Nice

Yes , well Cabaguio Complex where Plaza Roman resides is a little remote , but the building and interior of building is up market for Davao and the Philippines.

"Nice area" comment by BF's folk might have meant Plaza Roman is a tad 'remote' , but plenty of security guys and taxis on standby to take you back to Davao Central. Not in a run down area at all. When I was there , vacant blocks to left and right. A discrete designer sex spot made for local Davao lads , including husbands , lol. And for tourist market too.

No safety problems with Cabaguio Complex , which in itself is luxurious compared to the CM Recto area I previously described. Girls at Cabaguio are well dressed and on the sophisticated side.

Check out the other places at the Cabaguio complex , one at very end of hallway had the best girls. Entrance around P200 from memory but beer not expensive. Girls not cheap however. When I was there strip tease by 'models' , who were available for hire. Had a pleasant time at that one.

Worth a P60 taxi ride to have a look. Hold taxi , whilst you have a quick look , if you like. Entrance fee of approx P200 at all places except Plaza Roman. No entrance fee at PR.

I would expect the Plaza Roman girls to be better trained in massage than their CM Recto counterparts. Not to mention the better furnishings and atmosphere. There is an educated girl at Reception to whom you could explain your requirements. Am sure she would give you a girl that can satisfy your needs. This is where filipino businessmen would go for a relaxing massage with an option for sex.

From memory , the massage is conducted at Cabaguio Complex , but one of the massage girls told me sex takes place in a separate building nearby. Most probably to satisfy local laws.

If anyone visits Cabaguio , an update would be appreciated. No doubt there have been changes since I last visited.

    Massage places

I only had proper massages and non of the "flick dicky" ones.

Forget what they were called, but as you come out of Gallaria turn left, when you get to main, turn right and it about 150 mteres on left.

Second one turn right out of Gallaria, just before end of road (200mtrs) massage place is on the left. Lots of gays in there, I was a bit worried that I was going to get gay massure!

I had read about this on the forum, so I thought it worth a look. I pay the 20p admission and head on in. It is a large room with NO AC, and only two fans that I could see. As previously stated on this forum, it was HOT! Time to move on! On my way out, I am pointed to the stairs and a guy tells me that it is Air conditioned upstairs. Why not! It is a smaller room about 4m x 10m. This looked ok! So I stayed and had a couple of beers. Again local teenagers with no interest in a bolding fat bastard!

There was an announcement that there was a dance contest. I was the only western guy there but they made the announcement in English!

I did not wait for the contest,

    I felt Hungary;

You should have stayed for the dance contest. You would have liked it. Those girls writhing on stage make the ones in the audience start feeling horny too, hehe.

The girls may not look like they're showing interest to you but that can be deceptive. Go ahead and talk to them and you might be surprised. What you take for lack of interest on their part may just be shyness or lack of confidence in English ability. Assertiveness definitely pays off here.

Like I said before Station91 may not be for the guys who get the sweats. At least make sure you're cool to start with. (i.e. if you're at Marco Polo don't walk there and get hot, take a taxi)

I once felt Hungary also, crossing the Soviet border in '89 outside of Debrecen. She was wearing a thin summer dress. Unfortunately feeling was all I got to do, since we couldn't be sure someone wouldn't walk in on us in the train compartment.

    Massage Davao

To my knowledge there are two options re massage Davao :

    1. Sleazy cheap massage was offered to me in C.M.Recto Street , near corner of San Pedro St and the Hot Legs , Gallera clubs. Women selling cigs on footpath will ask 'Massage' if you walk nearby them. Think she said its P2/400 , then extra for sex. I should think nearby rooms etc are very grotty. But for sleaze , I doubt if it can be beaten anywhere in Phils , lol.

    2. The best one I know of is at the Cabaguio Complex :

Tell taxi driver "Plaza Roman" and he will take you to a complex in Cabaguio St , about P60 taxi ride from Davao central. On entering main door , turn first right and chat to receptionist. She will pull a cord , curtain opens up to your left. Look in the glass window and you will find 15 or more reasonably attractive girls on display.

P400 approximately for massage only , P2000 for short time sex , at time of my visit. Think you can bargain for less , not sure.

Plaza Roman info is a bit dated now , but have not heard anyone say its closed. Doubt it. There are some other girlie places in same complex. With better looking women too , I might add. Significant money spent on this building and it's furnishings. Think it is still there. Only cost P60 to find out , lol.

Sorry Barba and any others. Said before didnt have any info on Massage Davao. Memory just kicked in. Above is all I know about Massage Davao. Bold Focker might know of yet another avenue for massage in Davao.
