Some quick advice:
If you are really on a budget, then there are options. Shower your gf with attention, and she won't be too concerned with the number of stars the hotel has. Just make sure the hotel is clean and if you take her there do so in the afternoon/early evening to avoid any unwarranted attention form the hotel staff late at night.

When you arrive, tell her you want to go shopping to buy her parents a small gift for the New Year. Doesn't need to be expensive, and if she is the 'right' kind of girl, she will probably dissuade you from spending too much money anyway. After you buy a small gift, you can impress her by telling her you want to buy some fruit (yes, fruit!) for her mom. This is a very old-fashioned tradition - her mom will like it - that when you go to someone's house for the first time you take fruit as a thankyou gift. Don't buy a bunch of bananas for god's sake, get a nice fruit platter from one of the supermarkets. When shopping for the parents gift, surprise her by spending a small amount of money on a personal gift/keepsake for her. Your New Year's gift to her.

From hereon in, your situation should be pretty good. Looking after her, showing consideration to her parents etc. will gain you face & she will be very happy. Any hint of unhappiness about you not taking her to a five star hotel for a bit of fun should automatically disappear. If it doesn't, think about your gf's motives in seeing you. (If I sound too cynical about some Chinese girls, well.....just ignore that last part)

Home Inn, just off Tianjin Jie, near downtown. Price ca. 350RMB
Holiday Inn Express, just off Renmin Lu (the main road in downtown) between the ShangriLa & Furama Hotels. price ca. 330RMB
Liu Lian Hotel, 301 Jie Feng Lu, 04110-8231-0099, price ca. 100RMB (A buddy stayed there about 18 months ago, simple but very clean)

Some tips:
Check out ctrip.com The descriptions are fairly accurate. If you don't book online, it will give you some price guide when you try to reserve. Your gf may be embarrassed to bargain for a price if you do a 'walk-in'. Ask her to call the hotel in advance to bargain and book. Remember, this is off-season, so you should be able to get some great deals.

All else fails, just PM me when you get here. If you are looking for a night out (away from the trouble & strife) for a couple of beers, I'll be happy to show you around.

If you have serious intensions regarding her, Dalian isn’t that expensive. Just book a normal hotel room to show her that you care about her. From experience I can recommend the Dalian Delight Hotel, quite central, even compared to Europe a 4 star hotel for roughly 500 RMB/night (with corporate discount, but if you know where to go, bargaining is a sports in China). During my time in Dalian I a had a Chinese freebee, I have never been asked any questions there about her coming to / being / staying at my room. But there are a lot of other 4-5 star hotels in the area of 500 to 700 RMB/night in Dalian, just check on the internet.

i have just spent 5 days in dalian and must thank everyone for their prior reports as it certainly helped guide me to the best services.

i stayed at the shangrila so i checked out f2 first. there was a good range of girls, mainly chinese, who spoek good english and ranged in age between 25.35. the mamasan was busy surveying everyone and make sure no-one left the bar without being approached. i must say she ran those girls with military precision! price was 1200rmb. the band was terrible and drink service was slow and expensive.

i frequented alice bar most nights and it was dead before 9. 30pm. i think the best time to get there is 10pm so that way you get a larger choice of girls before they get snapped up. the pick of the crop is the philippinos of which karen is #1. get in quick as she heads home at xmas and won't be back. there are a number of chinese girls of varying quality including some in the 20 to 25 age group. you will have to buy the girls a few drinks at 40rmb each before you can leave. beer is 30rmb. the band is very good and the pole dancers are excellent especially the russian girl christina. unfortunately these dancers are not available for mongering so don't waste your money. the pool tables cost 10rmb per game and are a great way to get to know your girl. price is 1200rmb for the pinoys and 800rmb for the chinese.

the other bars around the shangrila offered much older and poorer quality girls compared to alice bar and price was consistent at 600rmb for takeout. they were all very quiet probably due to poor girl quality and selection. most bars only had 2 or 3 girls available. they are however worth a drink and checkout just in case a newbie appears however unlikely that may be.

there are also mamasans standing in front of the furama and shangrila offering girls and handing out business cards. cost is 600rmb with much varied quality and much older girls. 35+. use these as your last resort.

the finale is high skyline sauna. it is one of the best saunas i have ever been to. 3 storeys of luxury and sex! it is a little intimidating for non-asians such as me, especially when you speak no chinese, but i just went with the flow. firstly use the chinese address detailed in an earlier post. it is accross the road on an angle from the hotel. walk in and they will hand you a towel and locker key. walk down the stairs and the locker boys will help you undress and then walk naked into the basement shower, pool and spa area. here you can get the skin peel for 30rmb. this is not the place for the bashful and being the only europeon i think they have seen for a while i got plenty of stares. but hey it didn't bother me. once you have finished here you walk back through the lockers on the right and enter another room where the locker boys will help you into some pyjamas. u then move on to the 1st floor at this stage where you enter a large dim room containing the large reclining chairs and personal tv's. here you can get a proper massage (from the old ladys who not only you give a great remedial massage but also point to the "best girls"), also you can get a drink and overall chillout. i had a coke 20rmb and a back massage for 45 mins for 80rmb which was good value. my masseur also pointed out which were the good girls for sex. whilst you are in your chair, the sex girls will come over and say hello, (none have any english) and get you to go upstairs with them. they have a great range of at least 20 to 30 girls available at any time and they are all 7+. they offer 2 levels of service. straight sex for 399rmb and 499rmb which is the "snake kisses" which is described in earlier posts. this involves lots of rimming and even a vibrator up your arse if you like. to me the snake kisses is simply the best. make your choice of girl and then upstairs you go to your room where sex takes place. i had a great time here especially after my first visit where the girl went back down stairs and told all the girls about how big the girth of my dick is. i really filled her up if i do say so myself! i also spent time getting the girls off as well and fucking them long and slow which seems to be something they arent used to. anyway my reputation clearly went through the girls and i had a number of them wanting to take me upstairs on subsequent visits. i even had the room maid who was actually quite good looking ask me in broken english if i would show her my dick (which i did and the look on her face was priceless! ) as i went past her desk on the way down. overall i would suggest fuck everwhere else except alice bar and head to high skyline. it is exceptionally well run and won't disapoint. and don't forget your 40rmb discount coupon after your first visit.

I am surprised that you are disappointed with Dalian Yellow Fever. Having been to a couple of other cities coming back to dalian for a weekend recently was a delight.

Have you been to the Alice Bar? There are a number of beautiful Phillipino girls working there. They speak English, like a laugh and provide great service. I can personally recommend Jessie. I have come to Dalian. This is a nice city but far from a mongering destination. The options here for foreigners are mainly limited to a bar street and a streetwalker area. You can find KTV and Sauna here but in my opinion this can be very dangerous. Also do not ask a taxi driver for help as you will not have a good result. I think I have seen some BBS but they are not common. I am lucky to live in Shenzhen where the choice, selection and opportunities are much greater. Eventually, I will post a map of Dalian with the prime mongering zones as I know them.

Last night I went to the bars behing the Shangrila. I could not find anything to my liking. I find it irritating when WGs hassle you for drinks.

I went to the streetwalker area. I found what I needed for the night. The rate was 100RMB for ST (their place). I negotiated 300RMB LT (all night) at my hotel. Service was satisfactory but less than exciting. Oral was not attempted, FS was limited to mish. However I was able to unload several times. After about 2 hours, she told me she had to leave and I honestly was happy to see her go. She gave me her number, I may call her out of convenience if I have nothing better to do.

Tonight, I started at the SW area around 10:30PM. Perhaps 30 WGs in total, some way past expiry date, others are acceptable nothing outstanding. Many are married looking for some private cash, most I assume are divorced single moms. It is hard in winter time as all girls are covered in coats. All you can go on is face and attitude. Attitude and friendliness are good indicators for me. maybe you will get lucky, maybe not. As I have previously written, I like attractive older women 25+ to younger girls. Visited Alice Bar the other day on a Wednesday night around midnight. It's been a while and the last time I visited, it was still in the old location at the next street.
When I exited the elevator on the 3rd floor I was surprised how much bigger the new place is. Even though it wasn't awfully late, the place wasn't busy at all. What's worse, there was not much and certainly no good talent to be found. Some acceptable Philipine girls were stuck in a corner waisting their time with a couple of drunk guys. The 2-3 available girls were dead ugly and simply no option.
After a while the drunk guys left but the girls did not seem to be interested too much in extra revenue that night.

Spent last weekend in Dalian - was introduced to a new Hotel out between town and the Tiger Beach called the Grand Mercure. Great accommodation, service was grea and there was a promotion on at only RMB 688 for a good sized Deluxe room.
Anyways, there was also a Japanese KTV out by the side. Not big and the
selection of girls were 6's and 7's. The mama-san actually looked better than most of the girls down there.

I did manage to check out Red Ruby Sauna and it is a legit sauna. It is catered for Japanese/Korean. There is not a single word of English on any menu. I went in and was taken upstairs to the 3rd floor for a shower. I had no idea what was going on. Took a shower on the 3rd floor and then was pointed to go to 4th floor. You sit on these lazy boy chair and watch TV. One of the attendants come and ask if you are interested in foot massage or full body massage and other services (ear wax removal), but no hank pank.

I tried both the foot massage (RMB49) and the body massage for 100 minutes (RMB200). It was a nice massage. All legit.

I did not get a chance to try High Skyline Sauna. Please let us know what you find.

I was staying at Shangri-la and from there it is only a 10 minute walk. Directions provided by Cooler Wolf was right on. Thanks! Crossing the roundabout was the most challenging thing on getting there. I am glad I played the video game "frogger" when I was a kid. It helped with crossing the streets. :.) LOL.

one interesting place is the 'Army Hotel' near Xinghai Square. I don't know the name in Chinese but you might check with the Concierge of your hotel. It is run by the Chinese army and I have never seen a non Chinese there. It is cheap - 200 RMB for 45 minutes and a good opportunity to take 2 - 3 girls with you. But the place is run down and the girls are no stunners. If you want a real Chinese experience, go for it.
