They hate their dark skins, which is why they don't like Indians. Ironically, thais must be part Indian, because I see many thais who LOOK Indian! It's called INDO-China for a reason. Homogenous race: balloney! LOL.
Really, this is why thais hate themselves. I am dark = I suck. Low self esteem = low behavior. Which is why the place is a craphole, they can't tell the truth, and think their king is some kind of living deity.
Truth hurts!

Posts: 2102The old racism issue...AGAIN
Thais are xenophobic (not racist - racism is internal). What a surprise? How many times does this have to be discussed?
They are a basically homogenous nation, never militarily colonized (unlike the rest of the surrounding countries), where people are indoctrinated from birth that Thailand has one culture and one essence ("Thainess") and where people have a disproportionate view of Thailand's place in the world ("Thailand #1") and where everyone is basically told to be suspicious of anyone who is not like them - just like the rest of Asia (try going to Korea or Japan, if you want to feel really unwelcome).
Bayareapundit - they hate everyone. It might be more blatant, based on your experience that they particularly hate Kaek (what they call Indians, Arabs and anyone else of a swarthy complexion). But, they hate Farang, too. They're just a lot more subtle about it. I experience xenophobia on a daily basis from my Thai co-workers and I'm as WASP as you can get - blonde hair, blue eyes, pasty, pink skin. Unlike the low-end Thais you met, who might be excused for their ignorance, the Thais I'm around are supposed to be educated and enlightened, having gone to school in the West. Yet, they make derogatory remarks about Farang every day and there is a definite double standard in terms of how we are treated.
However, your obnoxious behaviour didn't help matters any and only managed to strengthen stereotypes about Indians.
I would also like to point out that India isn't exactly a bastion of open-mindedness either. I've been there twice (once for 3 months) and find the people incredibly dishonest, rude, aggressive and downright hostile at times - probably the most insular, xenophobic place I've ever been in my life.

Frequent visitor's to Thailand have heard the girls complain about Indians or Indian looking people. My response to Bayareapundit in no way condones racism. I was critical of his behavior and attitude. I do sympathize with persons of color that have a hard time in LOS.
During a Korea trip a few years ago, I visited one of their red lights districts. It consists of about three streets with the girls standing in windows similar to Amsterdam. The main street has gorgeous girls and the back street girls are not as pretty. A white guy will never be serviced by a main street hottie. Whites will only be serviced by girls on the side streets. It's prejudice and it sucks.
Thailand is not alone in being racist and racism can be directed at anyone, not just people of color.

Posts: 678bayareapundit said; "at this point i am extremely pissed at thailand. so much so that i would like to bring harm to thailand, their establishments in usa, or any thai bloke or girl in general who happens to cross my walk of life".
this is what ends up happening when discrimination is thrown in a guy's face. these thai's can be pretty nasty fucks when it comes to their racial profiling.....and this poor guy seems to have caught a large dose of it on his trip. probably one incident after another can get anyone to this point. it really makes me sick when i constantly hear these thai's and their constant attitude and looking down upon indians and others. it seems to be a deeply ingrained prejudice towards indians and others who do not fit the "standard" of what these thai's like. i have been personally embarassed by an incident where three indian/euro/american east indians came to our project for consultation and they were treated like shit at the local p4p establishments. one time at the door can set the attitude for the night. it is easy for a white guy to say move on down the road to a place where they will let you enter......but it doesn't feel good to even be around three previously happy guys just looking for some tail.....and now they are told no entry....because you look indian. just think how the guy feels in the pit of his stomach being told that he can't get to the gate of fucking a common "so-peeni"....because of his nationality or race.

Like you I'm in my first trip. I have spend 8 nights at BKK.
As a newbie like me, I suggest you to stat at Livingstone's Lodge. Place feels more like a home. With a great bar and the most friendly staff in whole BKK. Even drinking with the owner and the other guests is more fun than going out chasing girls. It is located in the center of night life. The sky train can take you anywhere (shopping & entertainment) with in 5 to 10 minutes. You can even walk most places.
As for places to go I have tried the Rainbow 4 gogo at Nana. No: 158 & 128 was young and hot looking sisters and they get along well.
There are also very beautifull girls at Livingstones. But I never tried. I guess I'm too shy for BKK. Barfining a girl from my hotel and seeing her again and ignoring her was to hard for me.
Like you I had built an itinerary for each day. But never stick with it. Go with the flow. Just note the places to avoid. Be sure to try Thermae and Spice Club. There are many girls for all tastes.
I hope this can help you a little.
Full report will follow when I get back home.

Posts: 350I guess u went to the champagne go-go?...When I was in Pattaya and Bkk-I noticed quite a few indians having a good time. While I dont discount the fact that some idiot girl may have turned up her nose or some mgr did discriminate, there are over 3k bars in Pattaya..and perhaps 100K hookers working. If a bar or a hooker is acting up--go to the next one.
When I was there, we went to club boesche(sp?) and stood at the door deciding...the dude at the door motioned us to leave...we simply left and went to another bar that welcomed us

Great report! Funniest I've read here for some time.
Apparent to all old hands why they continue to exclude Indian subcontinent blokes into the bars/gogos...and rightly so.
If I had seen your boorish behavior I'd have been the first to give you a Henekin hat, knowing full well the rest of the Thai's in the bar would have applauded and finished you off. You are a whinging pratt.
Bless the Thai's for their good judgement and consider yourself lucky you left alive.

Posts: 3282I do not think Thai's totally discriminate people who look Arab or Indian.
I look Arab and I have had a Thai gf for a long time. I have gone everywhere with her and people were always friendly.
yes, couple of times I went to a Go-Go bar in Pattaya i was refused entry. They said the club is full, in other words you are not welcome. I take it all with a grain of salt and i am non-confrontational. Travelling all over the world I have learned to be friendly and not draw attention to myself.
Well, the Indians must have done something for Thais to form an opinion.
But if you are reasonably well dressed, smell good act as a gentleman I think you should not have any problem.
Acting crazy and insulting the culture when you are a visitor is unwarranted in any country.

2. I opened a Thai Bank Account with Bangkok Bank Limited. I use internet to xfer large sums in Foreign Currency to my Thai Account and then pull it from ATM gradually. Make sure conversion occurs at Thai end so not to get ripped off. My own Country would definitely rip me off if asked them to send in Thai Baht.

It is a miracle that you didn't get the shit kicked out of you for tearing up Thai currencey -- 3 times no less -- and thereby desecrationg their king. You are lucky to be alive my friend. I'm surprised that the police didn't murder you.
Other persons on this forum of Indian descent have had good experiences here despite the initial prejudice. They apparently have learned how to overcome the problems you faced by being patient and showing a good attitude. Never-the-less, I do sympathize with you.
Best regards,
Daddy

Posts: 12Alright. The reason I published this report is so that an Indian brother who is planning a Thailand adventure for the first time reads it and takes heed and possibly makes up his mind to shelve the idea.
Secondly, I figured somebody will take objection to the report and it happens to be you. So let me answer some of your objections with a request to not prolong this discussion because a lot of what I've said is factual and undebatable. Let me rule out those objections of yours that have to do with me personally and not with my nationality.
