After having been in Banda Aceh during Ramadan I needed a change of environment, so Pattaya would probably be the best way to counter that experience. The taxi touts in the airport was offering ridiculous rates, so I went upstairs and got one for 1100B and arrived in Pattaya just after midnight. I checked in at Honey Lodge, just off Walking Street. Rooms are old but ok with AC and hot shower. They even have a small swimming pool, so it's a good deal at that location for 600B I think.

After unpacking and shower I'm out for a walk. Took a look at Marine's Disco and there was actually some guest there at 01:30, at Lucifer it was crowded and packed with girls. But it's simply to dark and noisy for me. I sat down at a beer bar just off Beach Road for a beer and chatted and played the usual bar games with one of the girls. She was was ok looking but quite fun, so not so keen on looking around more that late I bar fined her. Will not go over in history as the mindblowing experience, but quite good when you haven't had sex for a while (a whole week). Paid her the regular 1000B the next day and just enjoyed a lazy day.

When I go to an entertainment establishment like a go-go bar, just like anyone else, I like to choose a place to sit where I can be comfortable and see the action. In short, I’m the customer and like to pick my own spot early and stay there if I like it. I don’t like being moved around like a pinball just to satisfy the desires of the bar staff who want to cram as many people as possible into the bar.

On this occasion, I chose a seat on the sofa along the back wall, directly in front of a mat where the girls cavort about completely nude, performing acrobatic stunts and slapping each other with fake rubber hoses for the erotic entertainment of the guests. The spot also afforded a good vantage point for viewing the girls dancing up on the main stage, and the girls bathing nude in the shower Jacuzzi across the room.

I’m sitting there relaxed enjoying the show and my drink, when suddenly a hostess appears directly in front of me waving for me to move over a few places to make room for two new customers. I complied with a smile. Not long afterward, I found this same hostess in my face once more motioning me to move down several more places to allow a large group of Japs the prime spot I was once occupying. Once more I complied, but this time some irritation was beginning to creep up inside me. Now I was far away from the action, had a lousy view, and was feeling used and abused.

Then one of the cute dancers sat next to me wanting to chat. I explained to her that she was welcome to sit with me but that I wasn’t looking for a girl and wouldn’t be buying any lady drinks. The girl was happy with that and was soon sitting on my lap laughing, joking and chatting away like a little magpie. Twice, within 10 minutes, the bar hostess gestured for me to buy the lady a drink and I waved her off. After the second time, this hostess actually grabbed the arms of the poor horrified girl and forcibly hauled her off my lap, setting her down on the lap of one of the Jap strangers sitting nearby. She was mortified and humiliated. Well, OK, I thought; that was unbelievably rude, but since I wasn’t buying lady drinks, I had no claim to the girl’s attentions.

Within minutes, this fucking hostess was in my face again, motioning me to move over once more to a spot where I could see almost nothing. This time I balked. She glared at me. I glared back. She gave me a forced wai gesture. I shook my head no. She glared. I glared back, and said to her: “Why you treat me like this?” Her response was to turn around in a huff and march straight over to one of the bar thugs to have him, I supposed, “deal” with me. In no mood for an incident, I simply chugged down the rest of my beer and left the bar.

I guess “What’s Up?” has the right to treat its customers like shit if they choose. And I have the corresponding right to spend my baht where I like.

“What’s Up?” has now been officially scratched off my entertainment venue list.

Yeah you're right. I specifically chose one that has only a small charge for use in ATMs abroad. Some of the cards are free while some have an annual charge and others incur charges per transaction. Look around. There's no reason why you coldn't have a couple of different ones for different circumstances.

Saying all that I've never had a problem with using credit cards abroad so depends on your attitude to risk. I was a total Numpty one time and lost one on Soi 11 Sukhumvit a couple of years ago. Visa got a new one sent to my hotel in phuket 2 days later arriving on Boxing Day. Very impressed.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has suffered more than his fair share of disasterous encounters with ladies of the night both in Pattaya and Bangkok. Think it can happen to the most experienced of us. Just have to keep on your toes with the lot of them!! :-)

About 11 years ago on first trip to Thailand on my own (previous 1 time was with Scottish girlfriend), I had got so excited about what I could get up to over there and had set my expectations so high that it just had to end in disaster!!

I had made a spur of the moment decision the day before to book a flight from UK and just do it, having recently become single and been fantasising about it since my ex girlfriend and I had visited a gogo in Patpong the year before!

My friend had booked me into the Penthouse Hotel where he had been staying for a week already. We'd done a pile of gogos before heading back to Catz at the Penthouse where we had seen some real cuties earlier. It was just our luck that they had both been rented for the night already. Lesson I DIDN'T learn til many years later is if you see one you like then take her there and then cause otherwise someone else will. My mate pissed himself laughing about that for the rest of the holiday!

Funny thing was, the next night the Mamasan gave me a right telling off because the girl hadn't turned up for work!! What had I done to her etc? I just played ignorant. The girl never did turn up again while i was there!!

It happens to us all. For every 5 good ones I reckon I pick 1 disaster. I just have to accept it . All part of the P4P lottery!!

Since I know there is lots of scams in asia in credit cards, I dont think that would be a good idea.

Does any has been in the same situation before?

Another thought. Have you considered a prepaid mastercard or visa for using abroad. I've just got one for next trip in a few weeks. Basically works exactly like a normal card but you put credit on it online and you only put on what you need so if you lose it or it's stolen then no big deal. Don't even need to bother cancelling it. You can then always leave the real card in the room safe. You can use them to book and pay for hotel online too if you're worried about that.

One unless your staying at 5 star hotels there is no need to pay in advance. A simple e-mail to the hotel requesting the time you want to spend is all you need to do. If that hotel requests a deposit move to the next hotel, there are a BUTT load and you shouldn't have to use your plastic on the web through some third party.

You often get a better deal online.

For example: I recently stayed at the The Lido Beach Hotel on Beach Road and booked online. It was 826 online through a third party, but 1,200+ if you booked directly with them, or 1,000 if you just walked in of the street.

I can also verify the legitimacy of wired destinations and asiarooms. If they can't get you into your hotel of choice they will either find another place close by or refund your deposit within a week, your choice

I remember an American female colleague of mine accompanied me to Bangkok on my first business trip there back in 06 and she was shocked at the sight of so many women walking around in the middle of the night in miniskirts as we made our way to the hotel from the airport. This college educated women with a Masters in Information technology and a Bachelors in Criminal Justice looked me dead in the eye and asked “Are all these ladies hookers?”

This sounds like lower Suk, where it seems most of the women greet a farang man with 'gowityu?'
