    Hotel Montreal

    Thanks.
Stayed a few days at the Hotel Montreal a few years ago. I took advantage of the airport pickup and saved the taxi fare. The hotel has some working girls staying there. Then moved to the Las Vegas suites for the remainder of my stay.

Thank you, Iguana Six, for clarifying and the advice. My trip isn't for a while but I do like to plan ahead.

    Gracias!

Los Arcos does not accept reservations. It is "love hotel" that makes its money by renting rooms by the hour/2-4 hours. Nothing sleazy about it. In a poor country, many 20 somethings and 30 somethings are living with their families and need a nice hotel that is conducive to an afternoon tryst. Even married couples need a place to spend the night away from grandma and the kids. And of course, goombas need a discrete place to meet their goomars. That said, they do NOT take reservations, every cabbie knows the location, and calling them is useless.

If your plane arrives early and you can get their on a weekday morning (when they empty out of overnight stayovers), they will have a vacancy. Weekend night, and sometimes weekend evenings, fugedabouddit. Lunch hours, they get busy, but not full. They will try to steer you into the larger, nicer, $44 rooms, vs the box-with-a-bed-in-it $33 rooms. The $33 rooms are more popular with the express guests, and after a day or two, you will appreciate the sofa.

I have reserved a room elsewhere for the first night, then gone by Los Arcos the next morning. Even if you have to wait an hour or so, go around the corner and have brunch in the cafeteria, shop in the supermarket, or hit the internet cafes or laundramats in the neighborhood. They also have a nice airconditioned waiting room with a big window looking into the lobbby. Check out the hotties coming in and out of the place. It has never failed me.

    Good information.

I will be in Panama from 2/18 -3/3 for the first time.

Traveling to beaches from 2/22-2/27 if anyone wants to get together to do GT or Club Miami.

    2. Where to stay.
Some like to pay more to be in the safe, but expensive Veneto/Marriot/El Panama. Been there, done that - when the union I work for pays for it. When I am on my own dime, I have stayed at the "Los Arcos" love hotel for just $33, or the Hotel Euro for just $44. They are within walking distance of the big casinos. Los Arcos is made for mongering, except you cannot bring two chicas to the room at the same time. I've tried, I really did. There are other "pensiones" (love hotels)...often Colombian chicas use them as a base of operations while they wait to get into an apartment full of other chicas.

    3. Prices for chicas in various areas.
$84.50 for Golden Times: Most of them are beautiful, some are very passionate, and a few are beautiful and passionate. About the same for Miami Club.

The Colombianas at Habano's will ask for "Cien", but you are paying for the convenience of being rich and staying at the Marriot across the street.

Depending upon whether the casino is having a crackdown or not, the Veneto Casino, and sometimes the others, will have working girls lazily playing the slots in certain areas. They will try for cien, too, but they can be negotiated with.

"Oasis" is within staggering distance of El Panama and Veneto. Convenient if your mother does not let you cross the street. It is to GT what K-mart is to Target. The lunch special is just $50, if you want to see the evening shift chicas, it will cost you $65-$75. But you can print off internet coupons! A picture of the typical line up was posted in the foto section last February or March.

Relax Oriental and River Club: About $60. Go, find the diamond in the rough and do take out. The rooms are less inspiring than Oasis. I've gone to both dozens of times and not pulled the trigger. But when I did find a chica worth taking out.....wow!

    5. The best place for a balance of value and quality of girls.
Golden Times. "Cien" quality for $84.50, IF you do NOT let the cabbie drop you off there. (he gets a $10 finder's fee.)Have the driver take you to the Fantastic Casino/Casino Fantastic, go inside and wait for the cabbie to get another fare, and then walk the block and a half up the hill. Follow the McDonalds smell to the Popeye's Chicken smell until you see the Golden Times sign in U shaped strip mall.

    4. Any other helpful info.
To have more money for mongering, I'd rather pay less on the hotel, so I I get on Expedia and try to get a decent 3-star hotel reservation. The "pensiones" are inexpensive, squeeky clean, and try to maintain an environment where middle class locals can have a nice tryst. They don't make reservations, but it is not hard to go to their discrete waiting room and wait until a room opens up, especially between 9am and noon. I would also recommend using the cafeterias and little diners the locals use. Get a feel for the regular patterns of life of the locals away from the 5 big hotels off of Via Venetto. Drop off your clothes at the laundrymat behind Manolo's restaurant (or any laundrymat catering to locals) and be amazed at paying less than $2 for same day service.

    Thanks,

Info Needed - Newbie in Panama

    Gents,

I'm headed to Panama for the first time at the end of February (dates not set in stone) and will only be there for about 5 days. Wanted to hit the ground running. Could someone direct me to a good trip report for newbies in Panama? Have mongered in Costa Rica and DR and Asia, and I speak a little Spanish.

    Specifically, was wondering about:
    1. Ground transportation from the airport.
    2. Where to stay.
    3. Prices for chicas in various areas.
    5. The best place for a balance of value and quality of girls.
    4. Any other helpful info.

    Thanks,
    Ham Hock

Thanks for the information. Things didn't go exactly as planned, but I had a heck of a time thanks to everyone that posted reports. Reports for Day 1, and 2/4 are going through the system. Day 3 will get posted a bit later.

-Get a hotel in the Calidonia neighborhood (either Latino or Pensione Monaco) for around 30 bucks the first night.

-Attack the low end bars on Avenida K / Capitan. Try to get a couple $20 shots off, and at least one sub $100 Toda la Noche.

-Transfer over to the more expensive, but centrally located Las Vegas Suites for Thursday/Friday nights

-Get at least 2 runs at Golden Times.

-Thanksgiving rewinding at the sportsbar with some football (Either Bolas or in the Mariott)

    Questions:

Should I bring my laptop, and will I be able to get wi-fi in Las Vegas?

    Is there anything I missed?

will I be able to get a hotel room, just showing up out of the blue?

    Thanks
Sounds like a very good plan. I've stayed at Pension Monaco on Ave Cuba twice and it always works out perfectly. $25 per night and girl friendly. You will never have a problem getting a room there as it's a place where a lot of people rent per hour. Only in the wee hours does it sometimes get full when couples are spending the night.

Not sure about wifi in Las Vegas but I brought mi Laptop in case I wanted to watch movies, do some work. That's just me. Also you'll find some restaurants/cafes with wifi.

If you're the adventurous type I would say hit La Mayor and Boca Toren ( )a in the Casco Viejo area.

Also, I just posted a report in the Panama City thread.

Here is an idea. My flight arrives around 12:30pm. How about we meet at Veneto Casino at 8pm on 22nd? I think I'll be functional by that time. I am not sure what the good landmarks are there, but how about the nearest bar to the main entrance? I am sure that two mongers will be able to recognize each other. Let me know what you think about this plan.

That's a good point. I am not sure how we can privately contact each other since I became a paid member not so long ago. If any other members have suggestions, please let us know.

    Thanks
