I've been to all three cities several times and will tell you that Lima is way more dangerous than either Santiago or Buenos Aires. Santiago is both more expensive and less interesting (in my opinion) than either of the other two. Lima has the lowest percentage of English speakers, although none of those places have many chicas who speak English (a good thing, IMO). Both Peru and Chile have very conservative cultures overall. However I would not recommend studying Spanish in Buenos Aires because they don't really speak Spanish there; they speak castellano or "Rioplatense Spanish" and the differences are significant enough that my Mexican friend was unable to understand it for quite some time.

For a first timer I would say Argentina should be your starting place. The rest is so different, you could almost say downhill.
I know a great Spanish teacher for you in Buenos Aires.

I would like to travel to latin america for the first time. I want to go to a nice city to learn some spanish and meet some pretty women. As I'm traveling alone it should be a safe place, where I can go out alone at night without problems. I thought about Santiago de Chile, Lima or Buernos Aires. It should be possibel to go ahead with English (and maybe little Spanish). What would you recommend?

I was in Santiago last Monday and thought I'd give myself a treat so I logged onto laestokada again. Called on Macarena (not Makarena) in Providencia. There are about 3 girls working out of this depto I think, an agency that recently had a bust up, hence the departure of my regular, Isidora.

I understand the mongering scene in Mendoza is pretty active, if Santiago doesn't work out, you can take a 2.5 hr bus ride up there and check it out. I've yet to see anything I'd shag in Peru. Anyone else have "hands on" experience of Mendoza?
