I arrived in Cali on Tuesday afternoon and now it is time to give me initial impressions of the city and a rundown of my experiences so far. First of all, I am staying at the Four Points Sheraton, which is located about three blocks off La Sexta, in the north of Cali. The hotel sent a van to pick me up at the airport for free, which was nice. I used Starwood Preferred Guest Points (category 2 hotel, 4k/night weekdays, 3k/night weekend) to book the room for 5 nights so my out of pocket cost will be zero. The hotel seems new and everything is in very good condition and the staff are very professional.

I have been to Chipichape CC several times so far and I have honestly not been very impressed with the poontang walking around during the afternoon. I also have not been too impressed with the general quality of the girls walking around the streets up to this point. I did go to Body Tech gym located in Chipichape and there were some truly amazing pieces of ass in their working out. I'm talking some truly impressive Calenas.

Last night (Wednesday) I went to the famed Flores Frescas which is conveniently located only two blocks from the Sheraton. There were about 20 women working with many 7-8's and a single 9+. One of my favorite night time haunts in Cali is Faraon. This is a seedy club (night-time only) with a bar, a screen showing porno and rooms upstairs. Generally speaking it’s a mixed bag. Of the 20 or so girls I would say that 3 – 4 are fairly decent. Of those, I recently chose Sienna or was it Ciela? Now I asked her name twice and still didn’t quite get it. I am sure that there are the odd little princesses to be found in some of the smaller casas in Cali however for my part, after much time spent traveling in taxis, I found that much of what was on offer in these was of poor quality. Therefore, for the most part I concentrated my efforts on Dr Amor. This place is well run and there was a good selection of girls on most of the occasions that I visited.

There is a huge police presence in Cali, so I did not have any concern about thugs, or kidnappings. Although the one thing about cali that is lousy is the cabs do not have any ID inside only the sticker on the door, also they all hide the radios so they do not get stolen, so it would be very easy to unknowingly accept a ride from a rouge cab, even if you are Colombian. I would not to carry too much money, or your passport around town.

The north is loosely defined as anything north of the rio. Your best bet is to just hire a good cab driver, many of the addresses on the cali list forum are out of date unfortunately. Everyone is laid back and they will not care if you are looking for hookers, Most will go out of the way to help you since mongering is almost a a national sport in Cali.

Thanks for the input Cabroncito! I guess my main concern is with the ao-called narco-traffickers or guerrillas. I think I can handle the normal crime stuff; just don't wanna get kidnapped or anythkning stupid like that just because I'm an American. I'm not rich, not by far, so holding me for a ransom would just be a practice run and waste both our time! Yeah, I actually haven't run across too many in Bogota who speak English, unless they are normal girls who work in the hotel or restaurant/tourism industry.

This area in the North that you mention...can you give me some Hotel names, restaurants, casas, places of interest to Search the forum for more information? Thanks! Also, is there a US Consulate in Cali?

Missed you in Cali. I just spent about 10 days in Cali also and could not agree with Cabroncito more. I spend a lot of time outside mongering scene and developed a few friends in Cali but the same thing did not happen to me in Medellin.

Did not care much for Avenieda Sexta scene but loved the bars in La Setenta in Medellin.

Never had a problem with any Cab drivers in both cities and my spanish is limited.

If you stay in the north it is safe, you will have no problems as long as you are not a drunk belligerent idiot. I am not a big fan of Medellin and although I have not been back there in a long time, I think the large influx of gringos is more likely to attract Colombians who will take advantage of them.

So in Cali it is very unlikely to find spoiled girls, opportunistic cab drivers, and other undesirables sizing you up.

South Cali is also fun, but you need to keep your guard up at night.

If your spanish is bad I would avoid Cali though, not for safety but just do to the fact that almost no one speaks english. Many of the girls I banged pro and non-pro claimed they never even met an english speaking person before. Alot of the folks in the city have immigrated from rural areas so unlike most paisas, even their spanish is not that great.

I am also visiting surrounding cities. In the past, I have found most of the real gems in the smaller hubs.

Though I am a fan of Medellin also, I agree with the Cabroncito's post concerning fun and safety.

Hard to beat Medellin for the beautiful scenery and climate and available PFP.
For that reason it's hard to imagine too many gringos would choose Cali over Medellin, especially to live.

Cali, however, has that Colombian flavor of fun, and like Cabroncito said, you won't be bumping into too many gringos.

Can someone please educate me on how safe it is for mongering alone in Cali? Is there a "tourist" area like Zona Rosa where a newbie to Cali could monger easily without undue threat given the average level of common sense and caution? Please compare to Bogota and Medellin if possible. I've got a friend who just moved there and is loosely into mongering but, likely would not accompany me all the time. Planning a trip for maybe April or May for 4 days or so.

When I was there I felt really safe. Mde right now has had more incidents then Cali. The only thing in Cali is to make sure you have some ID with you as there is a more milatary presense there than any other city I have been to in Colombia. The police also make ramdom stops on cars with more then two people inside.

Well there's a reason there's more of a military presence in Cali.

Cali is for sure a "hotter" city than Medellin, and I don't mean the weather.

Cali is great, it's fun, but you do need to take care.
