    Brazilian business model

Just to be fair, by far, Luomos is not the only business in Brazil to have this mentality.
Some posters have referred to this as the Brazilian business model. I think the businesses only screw themselves in the long run.

Entrance is R$60 with no discount for taking a girl (was R$10)
    40 minutes now is $210 - was $200
    60 minutes now is $300 - was $280
    30 minute massage is now R$70 - was R$50

Drinks have gone up too. R$14 drinks are now R$15 and Martinis which were R$6 are now R$10.
I don't rate zone zul termas anyway. I prefer centro ones. I only go to lumo or monte carlo if it is raining.

Brasileiro - to be or not to be

Iīve been here in Rio for about a week now, Iīll be parading with Beija-Flor tomorrow(sunday) at sambodromo. I speak portuguese and dance samba as well. Iīve been so busy with regular beautiful non-pros I havenīt had too much time for mongering.

Iīm american and I too am tired of hearing this same old BS. There are alot of toursits (European and American)here who beleive that because they know many locations to go mongering feel themselves to be psuedo-brasileiros because they have been coming here for quite some time and feel at home.

Iīm happy for them that they feel at home, however there is quite a difference here in Rio between estranjeiros(foreigners) being tolerated and being accepted as a brasileiro.

If after many trips you still cannot carry on a fluid conversation in portuguese and you canīt really dance Samba no Pe ,you are being tolerated.

I get referred to as a brasileiro everyday without fail and to me it is one of the highest compliment I can think of.

All this ethnocentric one-upman-ship talk is just idle chatter without the aforementioned capabilities...

Any reasons why in Carnival time, lack of customers, when I thought they had to be much more busy ?

It is a lack of cumstomers only at luomo or in every termas ?

Sad, but true. I broke the ice in Luomos a few years ago when first arriving in Brazil. I had the time of my life, and it was just a blast at Luomos. Then, a couple of years ago, I had a bad experience in which a couple of my newbie friends from my hometown were getting ripped off big time......simply because they were rookies and did not know a word of portuguese. I had an argument with a bartender as well as that ***** lady they call a manager who deals with the garotas as well.

This place has been going down the tubes ever since. As far as I am concerned, they can go out buss. I have not visited that establishment in about 2 years.

Hopefully they are just raising rates for this busy tourist traffic in town for these few weeks, and then lower them. But that is just wishful thinking on my part.

I just don't get it. For example, the economy is rough in the states, so what do I see in yesterdays morning paper.....Fridays rest. chain is offering a buy one, get one free meal with a coupon you must print online. Well, thats creative, and also getting customers in. On the other hand, what do these fucks at Luomos do, they try to make up for slow business by.....oh yea, lets jack up the prices! What asswipes!

Just to be fair, by far, Luomos is not the only business in Brazil to have this mentality. Let's see what happens in May, June, and July when its low season and a rough economy is in progress as well.

I can totally relate....I enjoy these situations greatly. I speak just basic Port. and I definitely look like a brasilero. At a cafe, bar, club, termas, or beach.......I love to throw in a few comments after overhearing other tourists chat about their experiences or complaints. The expressions on their faces are amusing to me.

Just another little benefit of making the effort to learn the native language.

The O Globo ad says 70R, but it seems thereīs a room charge of 60R on top of that. Ok if the girls are reasonable. Just had a look in (just past midnight) and itīs a good size, nice and new and glitzy, like many of the boites in the immediate area. I think they said they have half a dozen suites so presumably you donīt have to take the girls in a bag off the premises and hide them from your hotel reception. Not many girls about just now. Same owners as Quitanda downtown he says. But the girls īcanīt be bothered turning up when itīs sunny and itīs carnaval.ī Only a couple of so-soīs on the shelf when popped my head in.

The address is NS Copa 99A. Tel 8807-2800. The boite or īAmerican Barīis open 8pm to 5am, īstriptease,ī blahblah. Whereas the terma is daytime. Nice that the girls do get a few hours nap
Made a stop by at 7:00 PM and they were not open. Knocked on the door and the guy said come back at 8:00 PM. Came back at 8:15 and got the tour. Nice bar area and decent rooms. No girls so I left. The paper they gave me said they have been open since Feb 5. Seems they are still working out some of the kinks. Hope to be able to give a report when they actually open.

    40 Graus

    Has anyone tried 40 Graus?

On a previous trip, whenever I called, I could not get thru.
Anyone know what going on with them?

You're a better man than me. While I don't come across this behavior often, I probably would've left when the girl left. The guy sounds like a total idiot. That's why I travel alone, and avoid places where "certain" tourists might venture.
