Hello Fellow Mongers:

I will be returning for a short trip to BKK pretty soon. I wanted to get some updated information. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with any DOM/sub scene in BKK? Like the club Bar Bar in Patpong for instance? Or any other for that matter? Any private providers specializing in this genre?

This isn't about picking sides but in all due respect you might want to read back a few post as far back to where this all started with Sean_Double. You might think for a minute and be consistent in your opinion which is within your right! That you criticize one and not the other! If you criticize OTH, would it not be consistent that you do the same with Sean_Double since he was the first to draw first blood by criticizing OTH for his opinion. There are no other OTH clones nor does OTH need anyone to defend him and I'm sure he knows that he can defend himself. But you sir might want to stop being a hyprocrite and read back and practice what you are preaching!

At the same time you criticize us for coming and defending OTH, you did exactly the same with Sean_Double. I responded not for just OTH, but will and have in the past for anyone even Sean_Double or you. But this constant attack on a individual by other individuals that turn around and expect the same right and do exactly the same thing don't you view that as a double standard?

Sean is just expressing an opinion and I think and hope that this is still allowed here. I imagine OTH winds quite a few up with his 'last word on everything Thai' opinions and his denigration of those who have the temerity to disagree with him. Actually I thought he said several months ago that he was going to fuck off and stop boring us all blind, anyway. But seems that ISG is a drug he cannot kick.

Anyways, the guy doesn't need a lot of OTH clones running to his rescue when criticized. He is a big boy and can answer for himself.

Have just left BKK and gone on to Pattaya. BKK was great fun, but one thing that was markedly different from my last trip was that there are a lot less mongerers there than when I was here same time two years ago. Think there's quite a few people that have been worried about going because of the political situation here.

The upside of this is that my sense is that the girls are more keen on getting barfined, last trip I would be paying around 2,000 to 2,500 bhat to take a go-go girl for long time. This time around I was paying pretty much 1,500 for long time and they were happy with that. Had no trouble with getting things like filming and picture taking included in the 1,500 bhat either. Bar fines were 500 rather than 600 last time, and happy hour 50 bhat draft beer specials ran for the full night at many places.

Downside is that whenever I would venture into a bar there would not be that many girls on scene and they would look bored, then being swamped by mama-san and waitresses suggesting that I should buy lady drinks, balls (I already have two balls, why do I need to buy any more...) and so on.

I don't see eye to eye with everything everyone has ever posted here on the Thailand thread. But life is sometimes we agree to disagree and it should be no different when you post! Don't be a hypocrite! as Daddy07, what is your contribution aside from bitching? He calls himself OTH, I refer to him as the Professor! You might not agree with his experience or opinions but don't try to take away his right to express what all of each are doing here and that is expressing our opinions and letting others know what we have experienced and last stop this nonsense of saying he is generalising! Thais are so "into their own culture", the importance of which has been exaggerated through institutionalized brain-washing, that they've developed a disproportionate and arrogant view of their own importance, not only within the region, but within the world. The result of their disinterest in anything outside their own country is that they are among the most ignorant people I've ever met. Your average Thai university student is no better than an 8th grader in the US (and, that might be generous).

Average third year university student: Place him/her in front of a map of the world, ask "Where is Thailand? " Invariably, without even thinking of looking at the names on the map, their over-inflated sense of Thailand's scope and size will have them instantly point to North America. It pisses Thais off to no end when you show them the reality.

Now, if you really want to have fun, try the same thing with a teacher. It's predictable but embarrassing as hell when they say "Impossible, impossible! Oh, but, wait.

Here is a great one I used to hear all the time in Chiang Mai: "Thailand must be the most wonderful place on earth, look how many farangs come here! "

Thai methods of learning are essentially based on the way boys were educated in the what for centuries, chanting and rote memorization. Hammering home the the "Five Precepts" then over-inflating the precious egos of young men about to enter monkhood. This was accepted as the standard method to keep control of male adolescence.

Talk about corrupting values to maintain the status quo?

Present day Thai schools: Chaotic classrooms, attempted rote memorization, the failure to do so, then cheating without consequence. It has become the way of life here and replicated ad nauseum throughout the Thai lifecycle.

I very much respect your scope on this. Many Western teaching styles were learn by rote not too long ago.

Actually, rote learning, as it occurs in Thailand has not been seen in the West since at least the 1950s and probably earlier. It's not just rote learning here that is the problem, but the absolute dictatorial, omnipotent nature of largely, under-educated, ignorant Thai teachers, who impart large amounts of useless and/or erroneous information and will not tolerate students' questions. They expect blind obedience. Curious students who dare to question are disciplined, often through physical violence.

Thais are very into their own culture even to the point of it being fatuous. However, they still have things to teach us beyond the third Buddhist precept. The balance even a BG has between sa-nook (fun) and gì-rí-yaa maa-rá-yâat (decorum) is fascinating.

Some rural folks are simple while others drink in the world. Most people from Isaan are straightforward and intrinsically nice - with rare but major exceptions.

Nobody's arguing that many of the simple folk upcountry are nice. And, perhaps there's some charm in their straightforwardness. But, personally as a teacher, I find the lack of interest in knowledge, the lack of a literary tradition or interest in developing one, and an overall lack of interest beyond the scope of their own experience quite appalling.

While for the moment, Thailand may see itself as the regional hub, and may in fact be the regional hub, in the not-to-distant future, unless they change their attitude, they will become an also-ran.
