Using past information posted on ISG, I checked out the area of Khon Kaen near the intersection of Prachasumran Street (where many clubs are, including Club Rad) and Si Chan. If you go about 100 meters north of this intersection there is a street running east to west that has a few brothels on it. By north, I mean walking away from Club Rad, and continuing on via a nearby street, even though Prachasumran street ends..

I walked down this small east to west street on a Friday night around 11:30 and had 2 older unattractive ladies (maybe in their 30s or 40s) offer me service for 500 baht. I wasn't interested and told them so, and the price quickly dropped to 400. I headed east and saw a few other brothels. One had a few younger ladies, one of which was wearing some cute lingerie. But the loudest talkative one who acted as a mouthpiece for the group was a bit rude to me. She was probably rude because I was a foreigner and made it clear I spoke minimal Thai. In the typical Isaan way, she acted pissed at the farang and made a fake gesture like she was slapping me. I never could understand why some ladies from Isaan act that way. Maybe she didn’t want to deal with some farang stranger? I talked to her in English and made a fake slapping gesture in return. I didn’t want to put up with the hassle to talk to the cutie, so I decided to pass, and left.

Looks like there was some potential in Khon Khaen, though I didn’t pursue it. I had tried to stop by Eric's bar earlier that same evening, but some neighbors told me it was closed for some sort of holiday. I didn’t check out any of the soapies, since I was short on cash. They seemed easy to find, though.

The next day I arrived in Nong Khai. I was staying at a crummy little dive named “Pong Vichitr Hotel” that I heard about from Lonely Planet. They were all out of AC rooms, but for 200 baht I got a fan room. The clerks spoke little English, but I had a problem I needed help with (I left my towel in another room of the hotel... long story) and ended up talking to one of them for a while. After the problem was resolved he pulled me aside and made fucking gestures with his fingers and asked me “Lady?” I didn’t want to deal with him, since I had plans to walk to a brothel later, so just shrugged him off. But this little interaction leads me to believe this hotel might be guest friendly and at least one clerk is willing to hook you up. I’m not recommending this place because it’s shabby and everything is falling apart, but maybe someone out there with a small budget might find this tip useful. The directions to find the brothel on Soi Sri Boon Ruang 2 with big breasted Lao ladies was very helpful and accurate. It took perhaps 20 minutes to walk there from Pong Vichitr. I arrived at around 8:30pm and found about 4 working girls out front as well as a baby and an old lady. Everyone seemed a bit young for my tastes (except for the old lady, ha ha). The only one there with truly large breasts looked like a teenager, so I stayed away from her. The others had small racks, though no smaller than normal. I selected a nice looking spinner, Nok, who quoted me 400 baht. Nok is 22 and from Vientiane. She kept trying to get me to pay first, but with a lot of patience and limited Thai I managed to communicate that I would pay after.

The room was a bit dingy with concrete walls and corrugated tin siding. Not exactly dirty, but definitely simple and rough. No shower. There were plenty of condoms under the pillow of the bed, but I brought my own. Nok’s performance was a mechanical. She wasn’t unfriendly, but distant. Not a GFE, but not icy either. Besides the early morning (before 7am visit to Soi 2), and another visit after 1pm are there any other mid-morning venues available in Udon Thani??
Don't like having to wake-up the girls on Soi 2, as they normally get to sleep around 7am and don't get up for lunch until 12-1pm.

Of course the mail doesn't open until 11am (weekdays) and 10am (weekends).

Guys if you’re going to Udon Thoni don’t stay at the Ton Koon, stay at the Ruy Suk Mansion.
It’s half the price, it’s closer to the entertainment, it’s brand new, free WiFi, free water, and AC. Get this it’s half the price of Ton Koon and is guest friendly!!!
We (a gaggle of friends) always stay there a good group of hobbyists that are always up to showing a new comer around. There’s Brits, a couple Americans, some Auzzies, some Swedes, and of course Canadians to boot.
My first trip up there I didn’t know shit, and didn’t know any one. All I knew was some of the old Vets had been talking about Udon being the next Pattaya and I need to go check it out.
So off I went, and yes this place will be the next Pattaya. Right now it’s laid back there isn’t any pushing of lady drinks, or “take me short time” shit, and the best part there isn’t one dam Indian guy try to sell you a new suite.

I do not often post in the Thailand forum (there are a lot of people who have more experience than me in this area) but I recently spent a few days in Udon Thani and thought my brief thoughts as a first time visitor to this city might be useful to others. Udon Thani is not a Pattaya or Bangkok but rather a "Non Tourist" town.

In my opinion the girls here are much more natural and relaxed and much less pushy than their BKK or Pattaya sisters and the whole scene is very "laid back. "

If you are passing through you. T. There are definitely places to go and plenty of opportunities if you look for them.

I stayed at Ton Koon Hotel. 700 Baht / night inc breakfast for a perfectly adequate, and large, room. Yes it is GF.

This hotel is around 20 mins walk, or a short Tuc Tuc ride from the centre of town. Most of the "entertainment" is within a short walk from the central bus station. Several Farrang bars around. The best known probably being The Irish Clock, run by an Englishman and offering good food.

My favourite bar / restaurant was Mojo. Just 5 mins walk from the bus station. Excellent food (Farrang and Thai) with very helpful management and friendly staff. In fact I think that I called in here each day I was in you. T. For a meal or just a drink or two. Currently they have "house doubles" of spirits on offer at 100 Baht (inc mixer.) Mojo is a little unusual as unlike many of the bars you can not bar fine the waitresses and there are no "lady drinks. "

However Dave and the other Farrangs there are a mine of useful information for a first time visitor on the city and the current info on the various places to go!

As has been mentioned previously Soi 1, 2 and 7 all have interesting venues and are only a few minutes walk from any of the central bars. Ton Koon Hotel (and several of the other hotels) have Karaoke and massage available and one hotel (I forget the name but 2 mins walk left from Ton Koon) has a fishbowl with a few rather cute girls when I visited.

A lot of the girls working the smaller establishments are from Laos with the staff being changed on a regular basis with new young girls being bought in, working for a few weeks and then, presumably, returning to Laos!

The 2 night markets (near the railway station) also had a few cute amateurs / part timers on the nights that I visited but, as usual YMMV!

So, Udon Thani is probably not a place that you would want to make a special journey to but, if you are there as a stopping off point on your way to or from Laos there is plenty to keep you amused for a few days.

I recently visited Mukdahan and found thusly.

I asked my tuktuk driver for 'song'. Small brothels. At a cheap price, hoping for Lao houses ala Udon Thani and Nong Khai. Thai friends had told me such do exist in Muck, but the driver didn't reveal them. He did take me to a 300 baht house near downtown but it was definitely Thai as the women (only two there in the afternoon) were not good looking and well over 30. I tried one for 300 but not before the mamasan pushed for 500 and called me 'keeneeow' when I refused. Honestly 300 was too much for the ones on offer.

Tuktuk then offered me 'beautiful' girls for 1, 500. Quite a price leap but these were to be delivered to my hotel. I almost took it but then asked him if they had 'massage' with beautiful girls. I was hoping for a soapy, as many small towns have one highend place. Well he ended up taking me to a regular massage place, where the girls were so-so. In their late twenties and not bad looking. So upstairs and did a slim girl with alas a blown out stomach (baby) bareback for 1, 500. The price was ridiculous, but I just wanted a story to tell before I left town. Later she said she was Lao, but I would never have guessed from the low quality and high price.

Leaving this place the tuk tuk showed me around that area. It is the area near the 'Mukdahan Tower', which looks like a squat water tower. Just outside town. As we circled the soi which goes round the tower quite a few girls called out to me from the little massage or kareoke joints there, and some were good looking. The place I wasted the 1, 500 was on the main road but most of the places were on this soi round the tower. To get there it is on the road out of town which passes the River City Hotel. You could aske the tuk tuk to take you to that hotel and then ask him to keep going till you see the tower on the left.

Lastly I have heard from acquantainces that the hotel delivery quality is pretty good, and I think you could probably bargain to more like 1,000, though that is still a lot of money.

After Mukdahan I stopped in Roi Et at the Mai Tai soapy where I had a cute slim girl only about 20 years old for 1, 500. Alas she refused to do absolutely anything. Very poor BJ. Just a waste of money and time.

On a recent visit to Khon Kaen with a Thai colleague we found the selection very limited at every one of the 'nicer' soapy massage joints, perhaps because it was a rainy Friday night. We had thought of attending the small soi of 500 baht brothels but my friend thought they might not be fully open or might be understaffed due to the rain.

In the end we found hardly any girls at the 'Lily' massage in the Princess Hotel, but the price was still 1,000 all in. We found the largest and best selection at good old Ceasar's massage. Their 1,200 baht range ('Bird Bird') was empty, and there were also no girls in the 1,700 baht 'Superstar' level, but about 6-7 girls all in the middle level at 1,500 baht. I can't remember the name of this level, but nothing could beat 'Bird Bird'. We each saw a girl we liked, but went off to look at the top of the line - Kosa Hotel.

However, before we departed Princess Hotel, one of the uniformed functionaries in the parking lot asked us if he could call some girls for us to review. He offered these mysteries at the price of 1,200, and my friend thought that there was a small chance they would be high quality - such as college girls. We waited for a long time, and finally only one mediocre late-twenties cute-but-not-fantastic girl showed up. What a disappointment - no way for 1,200.

I have been here on a longer trip once before and thought I would try the area of Soi Fie Dang which I have heard so much about. If you have read this thread you will see previous reports describing this area. It is a small Soi close toi the centre of Udon Thani with numerous lady houses where you will be quoted around 400 baht for a short time. As has been suggested before, do not take a tuk tuk there otherwise you may be charged an inflated price with the tuk tuk driver taking his cut. That said it is not easy to find if you do not know the place and it can be a bit embarrassing asking some stranger as I did, only to find them giving you a knowing chuckle and shouting to their friends to tell them where I am going as the area is obviously well known to the locals.

I would suggest anyone who wishes to visit the area to ask a tuk tuk driver to take you to the Karin Hotel which is situated on Wattananuwong Road a few minutes from ther centre of Udon Thani. The cost should be no more than 40-50 baht by tuk tuk and will land you close enough to the action without the tuk tuk driver knowing where you are going. Once you walk into the lobby, wait for the tuk tuk to disappear and you then cross the main road in front of the hotel and bear right with your back to the hotel. About 5 minutes walk will bring you to Soi Fie Dang on the left hand side. I was there around 12 noon and still had mamasans running out greeting me and asking me in to view the girls. To be honest I did not partake as the area is very low class, the houses are little more than shacks and the girls though young and pretty did not look clean.

I then left and ended up at the shopping mall for a light lunch and a bit of shopping. The shopping mall is a big complex and is full of young women shopping or just hanging out and is a potential pick up spot. I saw two young women walking in the sports shop on the 4th floor and stopped to chat just to see if it was a possibility. One of the girls wasted no time in asking me if I was alone and I knew they were in play. It is a good 10 - 15 minutes walk to the centre of Udon and probably not the best choice if you want to be staying right next to the action. If you are walking to the apartment rather than driving then you have to walk through the hospital to get to your room and this is another potential hunting ground for none working girls. I am amazed at the number of gorgeous looking nurses and hospital staff that go out of their way to be friendly and I may try my luck on the way back this afternoon.
