[Double Shooter]

The Shooter at last got the opportunity to revisit the newly re-opened Lucy’s establishment in Al Quoz. Visiting during daylight hours and asked not to park in front, there was a definite walk of shame to the large villa in a fairly isolated area.

so off i went. turned out to be closer to 20 minutes than 5, gotta love optimistic people whose cups is not only half full instead of half empty, but rather overflowing all the time. anyway, after a sweaty and sweary walk, the thought of having a cool beer watching some “sophisticated mamas” grinding away on african music, made me persevere.

finally arrived and was asked for 50dh entry with one free drink. i was about to try to talk my way inside, especially since a black customer went in for free, but realized in time that, actually, the black doorman might be feeling “mighty fine” taking my money. payback time for all the other clubs that let in whites for free. and he’s right, of course, great lesson how annoying discrimination can be.

place is maybe 20% full, depressingly empty for a club that is known to be raw, uncut, stomping, and always packed with people having a great time. even the band was not as aggressive and lively as i remember it. more a black version of the carpenters. somehow, it was quite fitting to have a sub par band playing in an empty club. excellent environment to realize that this night i haven’t really achieved shit. most african clubs were closed down and the two found open were almost empty.

as it was getting later and later, i figured to go back to palm beach hotel to see if the action has indeed picked up. on my way there, i noticed the famous seaview hotel, so i stepped out to take a peek inside. this place has been frequently mentioned on the board so curious to check it out myself.
