So I went to Bar 29 on Dong Khoi? the other day. I like this place because they don't have an excessive bar fine but they do want you to buy the lady at least 3 drinks = 150K Dong. I know the bar girls are expensive but sometimes I don't have the patience to go with someone cheaper and have a bad experience or to go out further to find a better deal.

I went back the same week before a dinner and just wanted a BJ. Mamasan got all mad because I told her I paid 500K before to go upstairs to get the job done. She wanted 1Mil, plus 200K for drinks. WTF, it was very expensive to do this upstairs. Before doing the deed, I was just hanging about and every 5 minutes or so girl went back down to get another drink. Mamasan thought I already tried to do the deed with the chick a couple of times already, WTF. Just hassling for more money. She is usually pretty nice as I am a regular customer, but I guess it's money hounding time in this economy.

Anybody else have a good experience at this place?

So I had this young chick ~20yo and before I decided to take her out I felt her up and man was her body taught. Over the past few months I’ve got to know a few of the girls working the HBT bars very well. This is how all the girls said the pricing works. BJ upstairs the girl pays the bar $10, girl leaves with a customer the girl pays the bar $20. Any lady drinks you buy them come off the $10/$20 bar fees. All other monies go directly to the girl. There is not "set" pricing inplace by the bar, the girls can charge whatever they like.

Hopefully this will help with your negotiations, if not; you at least know how much actually goes to the bar and girl.

So did anyone go check out this Catinat yet? Curious to hear what that one is about. Having a glass front and being on Dong Khoi probably means it's pretty straightlaced, maybe just a normal cafe.

I noticed Oasis has mostly bartenders (girls) from the old No. 5 that was located on Ly Tu Truong across the street from Lush. There were some cuties there back then. I did not see them at the relocated No. 5 on Mac Dinh Chi later, replaced by a new set that weren't as cute or nearly as friendly, IMO. Went there with a friend who'd just arrived one night, we were totally ignored by staff. We were both dressed smart, clean cut -- very different vibe from the old place. There you would never be left alone. Haven't been to the Pasteur incarnation. Nor Oasis -- have driven past and spotted a few familiar faces.

Speaking of the old No. 5, it looks like Carmen is reopening in the same old location. Surprise, surprise.

I wasn't meaning to suggest that these girls are better than anyone else, more a comment on how I think that they probably think of themselves. I don't think of them as "good" or "bad", but no doubt easier for them to rationalise their behaviour than if obviously riding around on motor bikes offering sex for money. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if a large percentage of them only go as far as being paid dance partners and nothing more. I couldn't call them wh*res even if I used that description, because I haven't had sex with any of them. Either for money or otherwise.

I think that by your definition most women are wh*res. In my experience most women trade sex for money or security or status etc. Whether or not that makes them wh*res is a matter of opinion. I prefer not to put labels on them, particularly as most of them are just maximising their earning potential in a generally very low wage economy.

Hi, first-timer coming to HCMC, would love to get some recommendations from some of the long-time guys there for nice bars where you can have a good beer or whiskey, chat up some cute chicks -- pros or amateurs welcome -- and perhaps take one home if you get lucky.

I've read some of the comments on here about Polo, Oasis, No. 5, etc. and may check those out. Any other recommendations would be most appreciated. Feel free to PM as well if there's anything you'd prefer to share that way. And if you feel like hitting any of these bars together or otherwise mongering, that sounds great too.

I drove by what looks to me like a new nightclub at the end of Dong Khoi near the river, opposite the Majestic Hotel. It's called Club Catinat.

Seems like you're moving up in the world, fishing in the Q1 pond. Did you win the lottery?

If such is the case you should try the dance club Maxims across the road. Dance as in "proper dancing" with live viet band and singers. Gonna cost you about 80k to get in and drinks quite expensive but big selection of girls dressed to the 9's. Girls are kind of hostesses so there's a price to sit or dance with them, maybe 200k for couple of hours plus a negotiable tip. I think this may be about the last vestige of a taxi dance club. Haven't been for about 6 months, and used to drop in maybe every couple of months just for something a bit different. If you get there at 9 you'll be the first and everything is finished by 12, so if lucky you might get some takeaway or go out for a bite after.

Some very pretty girls and some quite tall, although all wearing high heels. Lots of cleavage and leg on display, although might just be long dress slit high, lots of makeup. Quite dark so things might look different in the harsh light of day. My opinion is that mostly "good girls" with expensive tastes open to a boyfriend or maybe a few hours company for the right price. Polo Bar. Maybe sleazy atmosphere because at the top of the stairs one door to bar and other to massage. Has best looking girls and best English speakers, and all looking for boyfriends, but too smokey and too much of a drinkers' bar for me.

Number 5. Was on Mac Dinh Chi most recently and other places before and more of a sports bar; M52 and Moon bar for regulars and drinkers. Lots of new bars in this area behind Sun Wah/Pasteur area, Voodoo bar not bad for a drink. That Chilli Bar has to be about the smallest bar in town. Changes from a travel agency about 6pm and no reason to go there unless you've got a crush. My general comment is that these are places to go for a drink and are full of regulars. Lots of people are looking for somewhere to drink since Latin closed. You might find an attractive girl, in which case get her number and arrange a date. But she won't be a pro and she'll be looking for a boyfriend.

Sometimes interesting to me the behaviour/ mentality of some customers. Since when is it acceptable to walk into a place, sit down next to a stranger and light up a cigar, or walk along a bar top in your filthy shoes. Just 2 examples of yob Brit behaviour. Thank whoever that my ancestors were deported or left that green unpleasant land.

It's legal to act like an arsehole here but not compulsory.

Comparing four bars where the staff is all female and the customers nearly all male. These are not wh*re bars like the bars on Hai Ba Trung and Le Thanh Ton, just normal places to have a drink and where the pretty girls at the bar are the bartenders and have the job of talking to you and selling drinks, not getting them for themselves or offering to go home with you for a fee.

The bars are:
Oasis on Pham Ngu Lao across from the bus station
Number 5 on lower Pasteur
Moon Bar on lower Pasteur very near Number 5
Polo Bar on Ham Nghi

All these bars are within a very short distance of one another.
Drink prices are similar with draft beer at Polo being the highest at 41,000 Dong including 10% added
Oasis has Fosters for 25,000 and Tiger for 30,000
Number 5 has draft beer at 35,000 and Moon Bar at 30,000

Number 5 and Polo are much larger than the other two and attract bigger crowds. They also have the prettiest bartenders. The girls at Moon Bar were really not attractive at all, with one exception that I saw. Same at Oasis. Polo is surely tops in pretty bartenders.

Number 5 has lots of lovely and friendly girls and the music is at a volume where you can talk. There are some couches to sit on, sports on TV (will not interest Americans--rugby and cricket was all I saw) and it's an ok place for females too. Also, Number 5 is the only place with a decent food menu. You can have dinner there.

Polo also has lots of pretty girls to talk too, but the music is a bit loud and the place is dark. Polo also does not have a pool table unlike the other three, and to me, it generally has the sleaziest feel. Also, you have to pay 5000d to park your bike.

The peanuts at all places gave me a stomach ache as they are probably used again and again and have had many dirty fingers on them.

If anybody can add anything to this, please do. I hope this is helpful to newbies to HCMC as well as those who just want to go out for a drink and look at and/or talk to pretty girls without all the hassle.

A quieter bar with nice girls like this is the Hot Chilli Bar on Dong Do (Du?) with nice gals in Aoi Dai. Owned by a sweety by name of Dung. About to relocate over behind SunWah Tower.

And whilst these gals are not 'available' good things can always happen if you are nice to people.
