Get your papers together before you go. Do it for yourself and your fellow mongers.

the law says passport or passport card are now required. i would not recommend to anyone going to mexico to do so with out one of the two documents.
i am sure there have been few random cases where people have done so, but i would not advise due to the possible hassle it could turn in to when returning.
in addition the mexican le know these are required as well and could use this as an excuse to extort money from you if you are not carrying the proper identification.
i highly recommended playing by the rules carrying one of these on your person when traveling to mexico.

Posts: 2409The old mariscos man was shot
Went to the familiar mariscos stand across the intersection from restaurant La Perla.
The old man was not there. His son said he was was shot 4 times in a taxi somewhere in TJ. He's apparently not dead, in a hospital somewhere.
If he was in a taxi when shot, then he was targeted, not hit by stray bullets. Wondered what he could have done to get shot, besides serving some very tasty mariscos cocteles.
Can someone talk to his sons and brothers and give us some details?

Posts: 307Last week, I spent the night in Hotel Coahuila, and it was cold. Ask for an extra sheet or two before you bunk down.
Lately, the police have been laying low. I think it's because they want to make it through the year. Bandidos have been keeping them in check.

Posts: 6Thanks, Country John and Super Gato. Maybe I'll try out Cascadas.
Thanks for the tip about the lack of heat in the rooms. From what I had previously read, I was expecting the possibility of no hot water, but I didn't even think of bringing a blanket, or something warm.
I'm actually coming from Utah, where the current temperature is 17 degrees, and it's only 7pm. It gets so cold in Utah that the men here marry multiple wives just to stay warm!
I suppose one good thing about the cold is the chikas might actually want to cuddle.. At the very least, the cold condition might supply an interesting story to report on when I return. Hell, if it gets too cold, I might just have to bring TWO girls back to my room.

The hotel above Adelita is Hotel Coahuila. Their overnight rooms on the upper floor do have TVs (with pr0n and a closed circuit feed of the Adelita stage) and are a little nicer than the $12/30min rooms on the lower floors, but it is a notch down from Cascadas).
Country John is also right about the weather right now. Slippers, socks and a robe seem a little overkill. But to each his own. If you're coming down from somewhere where it is really cold you'll laugh at the locals all bundled up for a blizzard because it is only 55f.Last edited by Admin; 12-12-09 at 05:28.

Try to bring an electric blanket. There is NO heating system in these places and it's colder than shit here right now.
Also, be advised that nasty weather is forecast for this region over the next several days. The streets flood, blah blah blah. Bring waterproof footwear, slippers, socks, a warm robe etc. You will be very happy you did. If you have an electric blanket, the girls will LOVE it. Also, bring a power strip and extension cord. None of these hotels like you sucking on their power supply but fuck 'em. The extension cord will help you suck power to the blanket or heater.

Posts: 6Question about staying overnight:
Hi,
I have been to the Zona Norte four times now and, although I'm a gringo who doesn't speak much Spanish, I have not wandered to the unsafe streets and I have always felt fine. I have always left at dusk.
For this next visit, I was thinking of staying overnight in one of the local hotels right in the heart of the district, maybe Hotel Eduardo. Is it much more dangerous at night, if I am careful?
Truthfully, I have actually felt more uncomfortable getting out of the Taxi at the border-crossing area at night, than I have felt in the Zona Norte.

BTW gasoline can neutralize the perfume so you don't have to explain anything back home if you know what I mean.
