I have a friend who makes a decent living on ebay sales out here. And I live quite well shipping stuff to the USA through the regular postal service. Also, there are no customs taxes on exports, just imports. US customs is a much bigger problem, and most losses will be due to them, not the the Philippines, but it is just a cost of doing business. A fedex account (but difficult to get) will get you a 25% discount, and that is in addition to the 12% you save by not paying VAT if you are located in Subic.

VA Benefits
You can have VA comp monthly payments transferred from a US address to anywhere on the planet either as a mailed check or as a money transfer to a foreign bank.

As far as my medical issues are concerned, I am a diabetic and get all my medication via the VA. I am in the process of checking into how I can get my case transferred to the VA facility in Manila. If I decide on Subic Bay, then getting to the VA in Manila should not be a problem. I know full well the issues regarding marriage to a filipina and so marriage is not an option for me. A live-in g/f would be ok but I do not want to get into the whole family obligation thing. I would like to be able to sell my home and bank my equity money for emergency use. I do have a small business that I could run from the PI. Ebay is one of the methods I use to generate extra spending money. I am still studying my options and any constuctive info is always welcome

As I stated you can live well on that amount, but plan for everything so you don't get caught, as some do here, without a plan.
Good Luck!Robb

Thanks again

Thanks

But I also don't want to be a total freeloader and take total advantage of the girls poverty.
I do bar fine girls. And I can meet girls for free? But of course there is always a price to pay somewhere and somehow.
Because if you take it for free then you also mislead them into an emotional situation and/or you leave them in a poverty situation.
I pay my steady girls a monthly allowance and also provide dental and medical care.
So yes they are like employees or like girl friends/human beings that I do care about.
They have financial needs and I want their body. So its not a perfect trade but at least I do not just take and take without giving something back.
I also take them travelling and teach them about ocean activities.
Anyway bottom line is I don't expect something for nothing and I think its rude to take and take like a freeloader. Give something back and help them with some financials if nothing else.
Very well said! Thanks:)

Freeloading? Or just wise spending?

When I arrived Manila upon presenting my passport the immigration official asked me if I wanted a visa extension, I think to 59 days or there about, price was 3000 peso and they would stamp it on the spot. You can ask the immigration person when you arrive Clark if it is possible.

Interesting, there was 3 of us white guys in the Davao office. I was in Jeans, black shoes, black socks and decent button down shirt.
The other two both looked like they stepped of a beach in Hawaii.
They were both repeat customers, it was my first time there so I made sure to not wear pants.
They had air conditioning and a TV, but you could spend most of your wait time accross the street at the mall.
My Pinay made quick friends with the female guard outside the door, and she had lots of good advice about Davao/Samal.
I am always respectfull to the Pinays, it is just my nature. I have seen some foreigners playing the "loud/rich/ opinionated traveler/attention *****", but not many.
