Good Idea to be concerned about using ATMs in sketchy areas. Some guys don't care but I'd rather use an ATM attached to a bank in a non red-light district. Since you will be at the Ticuan I recommend using the ATM at the bank on Revolucion between Calle 9 and 10 on the north side of the street. I don't remember the name but they have an on duty guard and full bank staff to assist you in case something went wrong. IMO better accessed during normal banking hours.

In some ways brining cash is a lot easier to deal with in Tijuana "IF" you can secure it.

Yes, I suppose if one is at Ticuan, one can go directly and put it in the safe there. Safety concerns after visibly retrieving cash there as well as Spanish make me a little wary of the ATM route. Perhaps, I'll just a change money before the border and avoid headaches.

Business had me in San Diego for over 2 weeks, which gave me lots of time to hit Zona Norte. Some has already been written, here is a little more.

During the daylight hours I normally walk to Zona Norte from the boarder and I recommend it. I walk pretty fast and for me it is 35 minutes from the UETA lot to Hong Kong. During some of my walks I would stop at the shops along the way. If I bought something there were extras offered; prescription drugs, weed, and girls were typically offered. I felt safe during the daytime walk, but I would not try it after dark. The worst part was the walk over the Tijuana river because the smell was so bad and I didn't appreciate listening to the people that live under the bridge yelling up at me.

Renting a room in Cascadas is pretty normal for most of us, and I'm no exception. I started out renting a room for the day, then I switched to renting a clean room for each girl. There are 2 problems renting a room for the whole night. First, you only get 2 towels with the rental. A few months ago I would ask the cum boys for more towels or to straighten up the room and they would happily do it for a $3 to $5 tip. This trip the cum boys asked me to arrange it through the front desk; I don't remember what they charged for clean towels but I didn't appreciate it. And, I still had a messed up room. By the way, for those who haven't seen it, the HK van seems to be retired in favor of a nice stretch limo.

Best food was Viejo Lobo (thanks to Keg). Just a hole in the wall directly north of LC. Look for just 3 stools for customers and 2 guys cooking in the back. The whole place is probably only 100 square feet. The business name is not posted outside the building.

This was one expensive trip that I can't to do very often. I didn't keep track of finances but over my visit I pulled almost $3k out of the ATMs. Lucky that my business paid for airfare, rental car, and US side hotels.

Overall, I had a great time but still haven't met any members of this forum. I'll be back again in a couple of weeks and would enjoy having a beer with some members.
