I'm struggling to remember an Asian city where I felt safer wandering around town at 2 am than Davao. Add in honest taxis and nice eateries and it's a great place.

This is a worldwide rule. Women, by and large, want to be with younger guys as they are on the same wavelength because of nature, nurture and hard wiring. As the Philippines has tens of millions of poor, many women use the hairy chequebook to get $$ from foreigners. There are groups of them who exchange tips on how to use Japanese, Koreans, Cheap Charlie Westerners and so on. Having some grandpapa from Texas does not impress the trike driving or Red Horse drinking fraternity, just as it would not their Western equivalents.

The foreigner is a source of steady cash flow for the woman. I drank with expats in Angeles, m shooting the breeze with them. The wife would send the trike to collect thm at 7 pm and woe betide them if their eyes wandered. The prettiest just got her claws into a nicer older guy and did waitressing when he was away as she did not like bonking armies of strangers.

These armies of women pick their survival strategies, much as any other parasite in nature does. The saddest thing for me is seeing the Pina Love ads by mothers of three, hoping someone will take care of them.

Nature is tough and usually merciless. Although we should have compassion, we should not BS ourselves. For most of us, our only game is our wallet.

These are very good points. Still, many mongers will convince themselves that the LBFMs want them for something other than financial and migratory benefits. They desperately want to believe that their LBFM is different from all of the others. The prospect of owning their very own piece of exotic snatch has them dancing like a squirrel in the path of a speeding Dodge Demon. Plus, the expat community here is comprised of so many nationalities, cultures and points of view that continued exposure to a portion of that community is a continuous learning experience. I guess that's one of the reasons that I would never choose to relocate to Subic or Angeles;.

Anyway, KG, GE, RK and others who live in PI, I will be joining you in 2022 maybe even Subic Bay. The cost of living and social / moral decline of USA particularly California (and lack of affordable nice pussy) is making the PI an even more attractive retirement option for me.

As I was experiencing a brownout a few days ago, due to yet another blown transformer, I had to laugh while reminding myself that there are some things you just have to accept if you decide to live and be happy here. I guess that was the most difficult lesson for me to learn and it took me quite a while to internalize. For me, there are frustrations in living here—as I suppose there are anywhere—but the advantages far outweigh the downsides. I also think it's important to give very careful consideration to where you ultimately decide to live in the country as location is, I believe, highly correlated with the types of expats you're going to meet on a daily basis.

One of the many reasons I like Davao is that, while there are ample mongering opportunities, the city is not a Class A mongering destination. Thus, we don't get many of the "two week millionaire" types whose sole objectives are to drink and monger. There's nothing wrong with the latter, but if you live here, and if these are the only guys you meet on a regular basis, the conversations become boring and predictable and it all gets pretty empty and old pretty fast. Most of the expats I know here live "normal" lives; are married or are in long-term relationships and are generally interesting people. Every Filipino knows that a single foreign man in the 50-70 age bracket staying in three star hotels around the country is a sex tourist. They will be polite and ask you what your job is and how your vacation is going. You will not be fooling anyone when you say you are here in country for sight seeing, diving or for charity work. Another thing to remember is a lot of the girls in this area are from different parts of the country. Many live locally but with so many different cultures in the PH generalization is non existent. Yes there are lots of scams but the higher you go on the social economic ladder the fewer there are, eventually you get people who are more concerned that you are the scammer and these people would never think of scamming you.

In all countries, those higher on the socio economic ladder are not in the business of scamming individuals out of a few dollars. Their scams are more elaborate and involve fleecing the State with the cooperation of corrupt politicians. These scams cost the nation billions. The book "The Billion Dollar Whale" by Tom Wright gives a good example.
