I visited San Jose last week. I had been there a couple of times more than 5 years ago.

Flew in from Atlanta and made it through customs pretty good. The luggage belt delayed us, but a quick taxi ride to the Morazon made up for it. My room was ready as per phone reservation. I was only charged $35 a night including breakfast. That was a great deal as I was quoted $45 by phone. Oh well.

Morazon is pretty good. Close to Del Ray and Key Largo. And a 5 minute walk to New Fantasy and Zona Blue.

The Del Ray was pretty busy. But not like a few years ago. Many Colombian chicas. All wanted cien. Some stunners.

5 years ago I had made a deal with a real cute Tica named Vanessa. Fairly short, hot body, large breasts and geaorgeous face. I took her to Jaco for 4 days. Only 100/day. And we had alot of fun. I booked a round trip ticket on American Airlines, from ORD to SJO for $325, for April 2-15. At the airport, went across the street and up the escalator to the entrance terminal where I stopped at a Banco de Costa Rica kiosk and received a greater exchange rate than the place near baggage claim. I walked down the sidewalk to the street below and caught a bus to San Jose, cost about 75¢, then transferred to a taxi once I hit the bus station (final stop), cost $2. Checked into a nice studio room at el Presidente for $55/nt.

I love staying at the Presidente because it’s clean and elegant, wireless internet and the free, hot breakfast in the AM. It’s also around the corner from the Del Rey and Horseshoe Casino. Other people think the security is a pain when it comes to checking in girls, but I like the extra layer of security. I think that working girls are more ameble when taking them back to the hotel because they don’t want to risk getting banned from the entire hotel. The list seems to be enforced like the black list in Vegas! Also, I like the fact that you can pay your exit tax at the hotel, makes for one less thing to do at the airport.

Horseshoe Casino. I like this casino. The casino is clean and the hostesses are pretty hot. The best time for me was at noon or shortly after. The casino is pretty empty, and no ticos are in there. The minimum on blackjack was 500 colones. They also pass around and register you for a raffle. Registration is free, and if your name is picked, you get to spin the wheel to win some colones. The one drawback of this place is that it seems to be under constant construction. It seemed that, during my peak, they were busy replacing chairs, table felt, slot machines, etc. That was annoying. Also, beware the drunk Tico at night. One got pissed at me during Rummy because I hit on 16 (dealer showed King) and took a 6 that the guy needed for Rummy. That’s when I learned to play at the table of Americans at night, costs a little more but the peace of mind is worth it.

Bored with CR? I think I definitely learned that, when you have been here several times, coming for 2-weeks at a time can actually bore you. I don’t leave SJO because I don’t fish and can’t swim. Del Rey, Zona Blue, Blue Marlin, etc, seem to be the same as every trip. I’m not jumping to the evil side where people bash SJO, but for me it has become a place where it is great to go for a quick weekend trip but not an extended trip. Also, Idem raised their prices and only offer 1 hour rates now, so it fell out of favor with me as compared to other trips. Due to this, I got to learn about new places: the Low Rent Day Places!

Low Rent Day Places are definitely a good bargain and actually pretty decent places. Though I never took the Official Low Rent Tour (though I wish I would have), I did my own tour by walking out of Zona Blue, boozed up but having not partaken inside, and walked around. Within 3 or four blocks are several places where you could find a diamond in the rough and for about $15-$20. I forget the names of two places I visited (one is somewhat hard to spot, has a small pink sign on the top of the building), but I had two of my best sessions in these two places. Definitely good times!

Wingman. I usually travel alone and meet up with people at Sportmen’s Lodge. This is the first time that I felt like a CRT elder during a trip. I found myself often talking to newbies and telling them/showing them around town. It was cool here and there, but there are times when you want someone you can share some war stories with and that knows the areas as well as you do. I can say that I was proud to have met TonyTC. He was the one wingman that I liked making the rounds with and shooting the shit with. Tony, the visions of "Jail Bait" from Del Rey will forever be burned into my mind. LOL.

Ticas of the Month. I had the opportunity to be with one of the cutest women in SJO, the lovely Carina. She is so quiet and sweet. Having met at Sportmen’s Lodge, I felt some butterflies just talking to her. She met me the following day at my hotel, bright and early at 7am (right on time, wow! ) She looks gorgeous in lingerie, however, it was such a shame what the plastic surgeons did to her when giving her a boob job and tummy tuck. They really did a butcher job to her, and with her being so sweet it really was a shame. If she only realized the beauty she had before she went under the knife, I thought to myself frequently. Oh well, tis the name of the game for these girls.

I tried to session with Francia, Dec 2007 TOM. She gave me her number. I tried calling and emailing to no avail. Seemed kinda flaky in one email, then sends an apology (for not meeting me) email a week after I left. Next was Karen, March TOM. Literally, a minute later, he takes her back to his room. I mention this only because it was real shady how he did that. I lost a lot of respect for him for doing that and am of the mindset that I will let him know how wrong he was for doing that. Still a little steamed, I hope that if and when I see him again that I have cooled down and "forgiven and forgotten. " As for her, eh, NEXT! LOL.

Wrap up. All in all a good trip, not a great trip. Got to the airport early in the AM, flight was delayed 6 hours. AA did make up for sending me an apology email for the delayed flight and also crediting my account 5, 000 miles without me even asking. I met a couple cute chicks on my flight back home to ease my pain: one who was gorgeous but oh so married (cocktease! ) and the other a Venezuelan Dentist who has invited me to visit her at home (loves to talk politics, very adamant in expressing her opinions). I got home with a smile on my face, and while I had a good time in SJO, I was happy to be back in Sweet Home Chicago!

This report is a little late, because I was here in April, and am now planning a return trip in July, but some things are better late than never.

Anyhow, I took a poster's advice and emailed Dr. Sergio Chen for some dental work. He did it during the week that I was here in April and I saved a bundle. Fortunately, the work didn't hurt, so I was able to enjoy the atmosphere while I was here. Also, I was surprised to run into two others at the hotel who were here to see Chen. He is so polite and respectful. Those who have met him will know what I mean.

I stayed at the Morazan, as usual and found the price ($40/night) and accomodations acceptable, as everybody knows me there now. I visited BM several nights, but found the quality a little lacking, compared to trips in the past. Maybe I'm just getting used to it but there was some good eye candy. However, I'll never get use to having a few fat and ugly women, say "un cien dollars" with a straight face.

With a few exceptions, I spent most of my time relaxing with the mediocre and average looking staff at New Fantasy. I even had one bad experience there, with a mechanical clock watcher. I can't remember her name, but will add it if she is still there in July. Also, I was hoping to check out Bar Monaco, but didn't on this trip.

This is lacking some detail, but maybe I can fill in more in July. I still make at least one trip to La Princesa Marina, but with the price of gas I'll share a taxi with anyone interested. Just PM me, or check with the front desk at Morazan after July 7th.

Easy back at ya, Tequila. I'm sorry if you read my post as some sort of personal attack. I actually think it is great that you wanted to share your experiences. And I'll grant that somebody might find it useful or at least mildly entertaining. All I was trying to say was that it was not a Post of DISTINCTION (or if it was, it is a sign of how feeble this section has become).

I'm also glad you had a good time in spite of your mistakes. I think you'll have an even better time whenever you return to CR if you re-read my post as the constructive criticism it was intended. You said "it was very useful all the reports but I will try to share some of my learnings" and you have seemed to have learned some things, but most of that would have been more useful if you had read those earlier reports more carefully BEFORE you went. Then you could have avoided making a lot of those mistakes yourself.

About the US$100. 00. It's the same, it is a matter of cost/benefit analysis. If you get a US$60 cute girl. Good for you, congratulations. Others might prefer to assure quality and look for additional services. There is no right or wrong, it is a matter of choice, each one can decide how to spend their own money.

As it happens, among many other titles, I'm a CFM (Certified Financial Manager) so I know a thing or 2 about CBA (cost-benefit analysis) as well as CR. Sure, some guys place a higher value on lower costs while others place a higher premium on "quality". However, you seem to be suggesting you think there is some sort of direct (negative) correlation between those 2 attributes. That paying more assures higher quality (or that you can only bargain with the lower quality chicas). You still don't seem to get it. With chicas in CR, things are never that simple.

First of all, do you remember your flight down? Do you think the guy in the seat next to you paid the same fare that you did? Of course not. In much the same way, guys can pay radically different rates for the same chica. I'd be willing to bet that those chicas that you so readily paid $100 for were going with other guys for much less, in some cases even half as much for the same service. And even if they wouldn't there were probably other similar quality chicas that would. Just as you wouldn't pay full fare for your air ticket unless you absolutely had to, you shouldn't overpay for chicas.

Secondly, what is "quality" anyway? Looks are the most obvious component of quality and also the easiest and quickest to spot in the bar. Such aspects as attitude and skill are not as easily determined. But even looks can be deceiving. Pushup wonderbras with extra padding are very common and those wonderful curves in skin tight jeans can later spill out and just keep spilling out and don't get me started about carefully concealed stretchmarks, ceasarean and other scars. Attitude is something else. As you discovered, it can sometimes be discovered right at the bar, as you learned with the Colombiana at the "Cayo" Largo, however these chicas can be great actresses and very often will present one attitude will trying to make the sale and reveal an entirely different attitude when they get back to your room. And then there is the aspect of skill, which is probably the hardest aspect of quality of all to predict just on the basis of casual interaction back at the bar.

Of all these, looks are probably the one aspect that most closely correlates with price. Super hotties can often command the highest price, while the gorditas can often be brought down to super low prices (assuming anyone would even want to bother with them). But even here, you will find some gorditas who for some unfathomable reason will hold out for the "super hottie" price and even more incredulously sometimes get it. That only goes to show the subjectivity of beauty. OTOH, you can also find really cute girls who probably could get $100 if they waited long enough for the right guy but who will go with you for much less if you exercise a little style and finesse.

Which brings me to my 3rd and final point. PAYING MORE DOES NOT ASSURE QUALITY. In fact, there are a lot of reasons why it might actually lead to the exact opposite. Whether they reveal that aspect readily at the bar or not, super hot chicas who can most easily commmand $100 "por una hora" have all the more reason to rush through their sessions so they can get back to the bar and do it all over again. Unless you're quite clear that it is "por una hora completo" and that you "pago solamente quando completo" you may find that she thinks una hora means "until you come" which she'll make sure happens quickly. And even if you take those precautions her attitude after "completing her job" may be such that you'd be just as well off sending her on her way after you pop your first load. There is even a running bet that some vets make when they see luststruck newbies head up the stairs or out of the bar with there superhottie prizes, how long it will be before that superhottie is seen again back at the bar working on her next mark. With the smoothest operators that time is often embarassingly short. And even if these "quality" chicas don't rush you through your session, they have less reason to put much effort into the session or work on their skills because they don't need to in order to find guys that will go with them.

You are correct that everyone can decide how to spend their own money. I'm not so sure about whether there is no right or wrong, but there are certainly approaches that seem very foolish to me. Personally, I'd rather go with a 7-8 who probably will have a good attitude back in my room and who probably will settle for something less than $100 for an hour or more, than go with a 9-10 who probably will not have the greatest attitude back in the room and who insists on $100 or more for an hour or less. YMMV, but I think a LOT of vets will agree with me.

Great to be back on ISG again. Thanks for all the tips guys and as usual thanks to Jackson for such a great resourse. Just got back from a few days rest (! ) in CR so I thought I’d give you my four pennies worth! Last here in 2004 nice to see that not a lot appears to have changed on the chica front.

Decided to stay in the HDR again. It’s not exactly five star but damn, is it convenient or what? Got in at 10:00 pm to find the usual wall to wall totty.

Too lazy to walk far so kept to the hotel. Indeed, why travel when everything I need is on my doorstep (that’s what the current Mrs. Phonic keeps telling me anyway! ).

Please don't make things up. Read my post. Again! I didn't argue over a empty wallet. My wallet was full of my id, credit cards and most important my atm card. If the asshole gets that I am screwed

You did not specify that in your report, only said "he looked inside and saw no money". That to me means, empty wallet- because I don't carry credit cards, passport, atm or any of that shit. Cash only and a photocopy of my passport. Yet you were carrying all these things. Late at night. In a strange city you don't know. Do you see what I'm trying to say about bad choices? Are you noticing a pattern here yet? I said it was safe to walk, but I also qualified that statement- you can't look like a fucking mark. Never did I say wait outside Pantera Rosa for a cab, that is a BAD IDEA. I said have them CALL ONE FOR YOU, while you wait inside. There is a HUGE difference. Anyone who's been to Colombia will tell you the difference between calling for a numbered radio cab & pulling one off the street, ESPECIALLY in front of a girl club- one will get you safely home, the other can get you robbed. I'm sorry you ran into some bad luck, but there were also some bad choices made BY YOU.

That is probably true, but its also just their opinion (I am a member actually). I don't post there for a reason. Alot of the really hardcore CR guys who have been visiting a long time, have some very strong opinions about things that I dont agree with. Example: I was reading a thread on there about this guy who felt cheated by a girl, so took $20 back from her while in the shower. Now certainly this is a cowardly/tacano move, I wouldn't do it. But to hear some of the responses on that site- a few people offered to track the girl down and pay her the difference. One long time poster went so far as to float the idea of selling out this person to some local ticos to get him beat up. I was fucking appalled. The idea that a girl can provide bad service, then mysteriously men she doesn't know will materialize out of thin air and start giving her free money is patently absurd to me. Furthermore that in a strange land filled with people looking to do one harm, that a fellow monger would even think of setting up a brother in favor of some chick who probly cheats guys on the regular- where's the solidarity? Fuck that. That board has alot of good info and some intelligent posters, it also has alot of guys that have been to SJO 327457145 times but probly haven't been anywhere else even once. They provide good info, but the perspective can sometimes be narrow. Believe me, you think SJO is tough at night? Try centro in Medellin. I'm not stupid, even I know to be off the street by 10PM out there. Ditto for most of Bogota. Its just my opinion, but I don't think the number, organization or intelligence of the glue-huffing street punks in SJO comes anywhere near the professional criminals in either of those places, or of some places in the US (think Brownsville or Bronx NY)

By the way, does anyone know if HDR shows hockey on TV?

Yup. the side of the bar playing the Celtics playoffs was full one night, the side I ended up sitting on had hockey on 2 TVs. Just ask the bartenders.
