Just returned from a five night stay at the Hotel Taormina. My general findings with COVID still restricting activities:

-Hotel Taormina: much cleaner than the Del Rey, standard rooms (no balconies). I will return.

-Free standard breakfast American style (two eggs, bacon, toast and hash browns).

-No Chica fee, that I could tell (I had no issue taking girls up) The girls do have to register at the front desk, but there was no security at the elevator to verify. Depending on how you make your reservatrion may dictate if you have to pay a chica fee. See below.

-I made my hotel reservation with no deposit (See below).

-Small sports bar in the hotel is where the action is. Limited seating inside, so it fills up quickly. Only 6 seats at a smallish bar, that are separated by plexiglass, so you can't really talk to the person next to you. About 10-12 stand up tables; 2-6 person capacity. All patrons need to be seated when drinking (not strictly enforced, but they do announce warnings occasionally). Bar opens at 11:00 am. Girls start arriving about 1:00 pm and the number allowed is regulated, I'd gauge it at 15-20 max. If a hotel guest has a girl on his arm, she is automatically allowed in. I helped one of my "dates" get her girlfriend in to join us.
Once in the bar, you can generally remove your mask. It is needed to enter and exit.

-Girl quality is definitely lacking; only a couple 7-8 range: several holdovers from the HDR, for sure.

-The bar starts shutting down at 8:00 pm. At 9:00 pm, the girls who aren't with a guest, have to leave. After 9, the bar stays open for a little longer, for hotel guests, most nights the bar was closed before midnight. There is a DJ in the bar. Beers are about $3. I bought some shots, but I didn't really check to see what they cost..

I've read through the reports and it sounds like Taormina is the best spot right now. Vs. HDR.

I plan on staying in or near the resort and not venturing out much. Kinda curious if HRD is even worth a walk through at this point, or if I should just stay put. Also thinking about a walkthrough of Sportsmens since it's pretty close by.

Any input for a first time traveler would be appreciated. I'll definitely give a full report when I return.

The word "resort" and Taormina do not go together. It is a hotel in the downtown area of San Jose. Not a great neighborhood to go for a stroll after dark. But I have done it. Just need to know some stuff and be able to run really fast. As in have very good acceleration.

Sportsmans, Little Havana, Castillo, are all in the area. Some folks won't do the walk to the Sportsmans, but I do it frequently. Be nice to the trannies but don't encourage them, don't be drunk, and be ready to run fast uphill if you're there at night. It is a bit of a climb to the Sportsmans. Not noticable if you're young and fit. But a lot of the travelling mongers can't do that walk. Worried about strokes and heart attacks and such.

Hotel Del Rey is no more. At least it is closed and there are no signs of it opening to what it was in the past.

Walking in the daytime is no problem at all, at least going south and east from the Taormina. Which gets you to all of those other spots plus downtown.

I was there a few weeks ago for 4 nights and chica Fee was $10.00 for a girl that I imported that I had met at the Sportsman. I did have another girl that I checked in with that I didn't have to pay for since I booked for 2 people and she was registered on the room.

For sure. And there were no long stoppages when my fare was 13,000. But I've never been anywhere near as high as 30 or 40,000, even with sitting in traffic. 30 plus dollars US perhaps. Anyway, only mentioning it because there are cabs that have a turbo setting on their meters, and they can easily run double the normal and legal rate.

Edit to add... I reread your post. You said 20 to 30 k. So 20 would be only a bit higher than the range I have paid...so with long traffic hold ups that could be the legal fare. My apologies for not re-reading first.

I took a "un-metered" taxi from the Taormina to the airport. Flat rate of $30. I typically add in a tip when I put a price quote out there.

Depends on what time of day you arrive and how much traffic there is; and there's always traffic!

-The casino is decent, but all seats at tables and slots are separated by plexiglass and masks still need to be worn. No alcohol is served or allowed in the casino. I did hear that you "may" be able to get an alcoholic drink in a small cup.

-A Covid test can be scheduled through the hotel and the nurse will come to your room; $60, results in three hours. The results will be emailed to the front desk and they will print it out for you.

Contact, if needed: I have a good friend who works with the Taormina (and Cocal condos in Jaco) and she will take care of your reservations, transportation and Covid test scheduling. She told me that reserving through her will eliminate the chica fee. Send me a private message if you want her contact information.

-CR has a strict mask policy, most everywhere.

-Exchange rate: The casino rate is $1. 00 = roughly 600 colones.

-The girls range in price differs; some ask more, depending on their age and looks. Times are hard, so good negotiation skills are helpful. The girls are trying to make a living and we all want a win-win, right?
