No need to travel light to use the bus. I bring two pieces of luggage and use the bus every time. They have a luggage area in the rear of the bus (outside access).

There have been rude loud-mouth gringos hanging around a bench at the Veracruz since the beginning of Covid pandemic, and they are inviting problems to other foreigners. I was kicked out of Botero Real on the side of the church 2 years ago because they went 100% short time only rooms. Hotel Boulevar cut the overnight stays in half to have more short time rooms. As I stated, the gringos that can't seem to stay out of trouble with the police and locals are not hard to avoid. In fact, no gringos are very hard to avoid because there are not that many compared to the overall crowds in Centro. I will say that I notice the more problematic among us actively seeking out engagement with other gringos. I suspect it's a reaction to having been shunned here and at home. I won't pretend to have any insights about what it says about cultural norms. For me personally the bench mob of gringos that have been around for years are like loose tiles and holes in pedestrian paths around Centro. I don't take note of them except to avoid them.
