Questions 1 and 2 have been recently discussed but since I'm in a decent mood I'll repeat it. For soaplands Japanese skills are a definite plus because most shops won't let you in if they can't communicate with you and traditionally soaplands do not allow foreigners period. With that said, there are exceptions, due to the poor economy some shops started to allow foreigners, and you need to walk around Yoshiwara patiently, understandingly, and politely to look for that exception. When you find it though be prepared to pay a hilariously large amount of money for it. If you see a price board and they want you to pay more than that, it's because Yoshiwara usually charges more for foreigners especially foreigners who don't speak Japanese. Don't argue about the price because you're lucky they let you in at all.

Question 3: You cannot ensure you get the most beautiful woman available due to several reasons. The top girls at the shop are usually reserved for Japanese customers only; you can only select from pictures which are sometimes quite different from the actual person; a lot of girls are scared to be with a customer they cannot communicate with and they're usually the better looking ones for some reason; and last your definition of "most beautiful" can very well be different from others. Also, be wary of the tencho's recommendation. Not always, but often, the tencho pushes a girl who's not that attractive and has not been getting many customers.

You will be given a choice of girls who are okay with being with a foreigner in the end and it's up to you to use your judgement from the pictures and the measurements to make your choice. Also, cheaper soaplands tend to offer less attractive girls. Expensive soaplands tend to offer better looking girls which is just how the world works. If you're willing to spend the amount of a small engined motorcycle on your journey, then you can ensure you get a very attractive girl.

Question 4: If you can't speak Japanese, it's fairly pointless to call ahead.
